I am gonna remember that shot...the bounce makes it even more memorable, and BTW, aren't they all lucky shots? .04 was lucky, so was Horry's buzzer beater against the Kings(lucky because the ball got tapped right out to him). And sorry but Elliott's MDM was lucky too....that's why we call it a Miracle.
Fact is Barry hasn't missed a late game winner or shot to tie the game, yet in his Spurs career, he hit several of them last season for us(that no one seems to want to remember) and that was probably the biggest shot of Brent Barry's career...I knew it was going in, and I would have been surprised if it didn't...and something tells me Barry would have been surprised too.

I think if the Sean misses the MDM, we still win the series in 6 or 7, IMO they were too mentally tough to let one game detour them from the Championship.

The MDM was the turning point in Spurs history, and the moment in which they became, mentally tough.
Prior to that shot, "mentally tough" and "Spurs", were seldom used in the same sentence together...at least not without the word, "lack" being included.
Before the MDM, the Spurs were one of the few teams who had blown 3-1 series leads. In fact, they almost did it twice.
Before the MDM, the Spurs were the team that lost games after blowing big leads (well, okay, they still do that). But also before the MDM they never came back from big deficits to win playoff games. Since then, there have been plenty.
Maybe you just had to suffer a lot pre-MDM to really appreciate what it was.
What I'm wondering is how Brent's shot ranks in Kings lore.
I think that's precisely the point. The 1999 Spurs may have still won a le without Sean's shot, but that shot -- for me at least -- will always be the embodiment of the split-second that the Spurs went from being contenders to champions. Champions make that shot; contenders don't.
Well the beauty of the Kings fans...they love their torment and dwell on their failures more than any fandom I can remember.
I was reading their game log and honestly...I felt sorry for them...
They already called our bench the, "Kings Killers", because of Finley, Van Exel and Horry, who have all screwed the Kings at some point in their careers...

Barry was about the only guard/shooter on our bench that hadn't hurt them at some point, I think even Rasho had a big game against them one time(I think his career high 9 blocks came against the Kings)...they'll remember, maybe more than Finley and Van Ex, but not as much as they remember Horry...Horry definitely stole their ring.

MDM is #1; w/o it I think that series becomes a tossup - that Portland team was stacked and about as athletic as any team EVER; the sweep occurred BECAUSE of the MDM - also, level of difficulty AND how far down the Spurs had come (and ALL of Elliot's other 3's to get them even back into it) make it tops. Also, it was Sean - his jersey in the rafters, the kidney, the Detroit give and go; too much nostalgia and love for him not to occupy the top spot; FOREVER.

I've been pulling for the Spurs since I was 5, which means that I had about a decade (or two thirds of my young life as of '99) worth of Spurs playoff heartache. I understood what a huge deal that shot was then, and my understanding and appreciation of it have only grown since then.
What if we say the shot turned the team on? Someone said earlier today...."Barry hit the three and then they realized they were the Spurs again." So, I say the shots following Barry's were of moere importance, even though this one was more exciting.

Barry's shot definitely is up there. I can only think of Sean's MDM and Horry's game 5 dagger as being more dramatic.

They'll have to arm wrestle or something over who gets credit for it.
