I didn't know Ivan Drogo played Euro BBall.
Agree...guys that have athleticism tend to be the ones that transfer well. I still haven't written Oberto off as being a contributor yet...he just wasn't big or fast enough to beat out our two NBA vet C's...both of whom have started on playoff teams.
CKSA and Scola's team were both in his division, both were Euroleague final 4, so it was a tough division..
Here's what he did in the big games: I think he actually outplayed Scola in one of the games...it's hard to tell because in these games they have to win by a certain number of points.
Anyway, link to stats:

And links to recaps against Tau and CKSA:
Tau

CKSA

http://www.euroleague.net/noticia.js...nada=15&id=800
He has a habit of making big dunks when his team needs them, at least in these big games he did, according to the recap...even the game where CKSA destroyed his team by Euroleague record standards.
The boxscores are also available from those links so you can see how he did up against Scola and compared to his teamates.
And this was the first year Rytas was in Euroleague...last year they were ULEB Cup.
I didn't know Ivan Drogo played Euro BBall.
So get Javtokas..Scola, maybe Hermann...boom, our bench starts looking a whole lot like the best national team in the world...Team Argentina. And our bench might end up being the best small ball/running team in the NBA.
The only doubts I have about Javtokas really are those legs ...
You can just tell by looking at him he's going to command more respect than Rasho and Nazr...who knows, maybe he'll push Rasho. But to me it's obvious he's a completely different style of player from Rasho, this dude's hard...demonstrative, and he loves dunking it.

Just add Bruce's backup and you got the frontcourt of the 2007 champions.![]()
JAvtokas also put up good numbers against Macabi, which has a good frontline, in the rebound and blocks departments. Against Winterthur FCB, that Scola's Tau just knocked out of the ACB playoffs, he had 14 rebounds and 4 blocks to go with 12 points. If you want defense you go with Javtokas no question. Offense Scola is your man. Spurs need a defensive big man/rebounder more but too bad you can't meld the two.
Javtokas has played a lot this season : 61 games and 26mpg.
Half of the games were against bad teams but it still a game.
He's gotta be a hardass to make it back from his accident like he did. I remember reading some articles and it seemed like everyone thought he was done, not just with basketball but with ever having full use of his legs again. Then one day I read that he's tearing up the Euroleague.
Just a painful note for our dear Lakers' brethren. In the 2000 NBA draftthe Spurs with the 54th pick high schooler Corey Hightower. His rights were traded to the LA Lakers for two future second rounders in 2001 and 2002. Those two picks turned out to be both at #56 and yielded Robertas Javtokas and Luis Scola. Thanks Lakers.![]()
"The rich get richer."
Nice highlights, finally someone who will throw it down. He looks like exactly what the Spurs need. Hopefully him and his game will translate to the NBA game speed and talent.
As the idiot Bill Walton would say
Throw it down big fella, throw it down.
I am always su ious when 4' out of 4'23'' are made of dunks. And 20'' of blocks.
Fortunately baskeball is slightly more complex than that.
He has little experience, little passing game and midrange shooting isn't precisely sufficient.
He is a good prospect, though, reminds me of the brazilian playing for the Cavs.
Which is exactly what the Spurs need. They need raw raw muscle and stength to clean up the glass and play good D.
Man, that highlight reel was sweet as . I'm excited.
The Spurs need an athletic big next to TD whose purpose in life is to rebound and dunk.
OMG. that would be so awesome.
Do you honestly think the spurs are gonna carry 4-6 Centers??
The Spurs still need a long SF.
Im surprised that we havent had any piston fan go off about this.
But I think they know the spurs cant afford Ben Wallace.
Although, that would be freakin awsome.![]()
Problem is his experience. He has next to nothing.
On top, if the Spurs sign Scola, he'll get very little playing time, even without Mohammed.
If they don't, then he might have a chance behind Nesterovic.
If I were him, I'd stay in the Euroleague one more year.
But he's a biker, he'll take the chance!
I saw some nice aggressive drive moves from out around the top of the key--something that NAZR and RASHO almost never did or were able to do.
And there aren't many centers men with outside shots. You could probably name them on one hand. While it would be a nice skill for a center and possibly make him a superstar, I haven't seen Shaq make many threes. Not on his job description.
I hope that all those outtakes were recent and not from before his injury. I'd heard he was still somewhat limited physically--but he looks like he's moving damn good to me in this video.
Using DRob as a model, I think the most important qualities of a big alongside TD is that they rebound, defend and not command many touches otherwise. Also, if they can make the post entry pass that is nice. Outside of that, yes, a jumpshot is nice.
He looks good. I hope the Spurs' brain trust has made it a priority to sign him up. I think Summer League will tell the tale for the rest of the Spurs offseason moves.
Gooooo Ian!
A good athletic center is what it will take to smash small ball. And I kinda like small ball, being a height-challenged guard all my life.
How many small ball teams have won the nba le? You can start guessing.............
now
The 1974-75 Golden State Warriors.
Yep, hopefully we can get something useable in return.Bye Nazr. Have fun in Chicago.
Javtokas looks very mobile and very strong, but there's no way he'll get lanes like that to drive in the NBA, especially if he has no jumper.
No not Baby Hakeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeem![]()
