Yeah, I know I saw the game but dont remember what happened.
I was listening to it on radio, so I don't recall the visual.
I just remember the game was well in hand, and I believe it was a playoff game.
Yeah, I know I saw the game but dont remember what happened.
Elimination game for the Suns, Spurs were way up. Steve Nash was a backup. He came in and body slammed AJ to the floor. Do a search on this board for the word "mishandled".
I know Avery helped our franchise when he was here and that the guys on our team who knew him seem to still like him,
If Pop really wants to honor Avery for what he did for us back then, I could accept that- although at this moment I have absolutely no desire to attend said ceremony.
There is one thing I do feel strongly about and that is:if the Spurs are going to retire Avery's jersey, they need to hurry up and get it done.
It would have been best had they done it already before Avery started coaching one of our biggest rivals. Now everything feels all weird.
And in answer to the question... I rooted for Avery when he was a Spur but my only favorite back then was Tim Duncan.
I liked Avery up until I saw how he behaved this play off series and even after, would rather not hate him.
The real AJ is the one you all saw front and center. Honoring him by this franchise would be a disgrace
He's trashed Ginobili when Manu was signed, trashed Parker when he was brought in, followed it up with the whole bear hug defense back stab, and topped it all off with his fourth grade antics after game 5.
The only place Avery should hold in the SBC Center is our b!tch four times a year when we play the Mavs.
AGREE 100 PERCENT!
#32 shouldn't have been retired, neither should #6.
, maybe even get Manu to wear #6, Kobe and Amare changed their numbers.....![]()
Why ever not?
It belittles the other jerseys that are already up there. Based on the requirements of being a fan favorite, Malik Rose will be next to go to the rafters....![]()
Okay honestly. Why would the Spurs organization even consider retiring Avery Johnson's jersey?
Now that is what I am talking about!![]()
that whining ass .....
Im gonna be so pissed if they choose to retire his jersey, (like someone said in another thread) for that ONE time in the finals that we weren't embaressed to have him on our team....
Just so I can get a feel for your standard, what numbers are retired in your bathroom?
Malik Rose the all-time leader in Rebounds for the franchise?
He is neither a favorite son nor should he have his # retired.
You know, the only problem I have with Avery is who he's coaching for.
Yeah, he got flustered when they didn't get the breaks in the finals, but this is his first full year as a coach and he took his team all the way to the finals -- that's a of a trip. Based on what I've seen so far, when Pop retires, I'd welcome him here as a coach.
Of course, that doesn't mean he needs his jersey in the rafters -- he was a fan favorite, but he was never really a great player.
Awery Jowhnson was a huge pawrt of the Spuws in the 1990s and the '99 championship. Most Spuws fans dissing AJ only became Spuws fans after AJ helped bwing home that first le. Suwk my fuwwy if you disagwee.
If they plan to retire his jersey, I will buy tickets to that game. So that I can boo. I don't want #6 retired. What made me mad was restricting Manu to wear #6 when he came in. What did Avery do? He was a piece of our championship team in '99. A vocal leader. That doesn't mean no one can wear #6.
Are you trying to say he is the cat's meow?
Avery is a whiny with a gay voice.
So you're cool with when he cracked on Manu and said he could earn his own number with this franchise, and when he commented about us drafting Parker that they shouldn't send a kid to do a man's job?You know, the only problem I have with Avery is who he's coaching for.
All that was cool with you? Dude's a punk.
i didnt care for aj when he was here, when he left, when he came back, and now as a coach. i say him!
always knew he was a little to begin with.
