Won 5 championships, 3 mvps, and almost averaged a triple double over his career.
so td has 3 championships and 2 mvps at age 30. he has one less all-nba 1st team appearance than magic.

In order for you to convince me that Tim Duncan is in the same class as magic johnson, he is going to have to win a couple more rings. And with his age, and all the young talent in the league, i just dont see this happening.

^ violentkitten, the argument was over who is the more accomplished player, not the first to get aids.
magic has the higher public profile but to pretend that duncan isnt in that class is absurd.

Where does Wilt Chamberlain rank on your list?
    How about Dennis Rodman?

You're right. Robert Horry ranks up there with Magic too.

Well, I certainly believe TD is in the same class as Magic in some respects. TD isnt done yet.

But Magic did something no one will ever do. He played Center in the Finals as a Point Guard and dominated. TD cant play the point. Sorry.

yeah because his career is over.
Of course his career isn't over, he still has about 5 more great years in him. But i just can't see him winning 2 championships in the next 5 years in a league with lebron, wade, dirk, etc. What is going to happen when duncan is no longer the man? He already seems to be on the decline, with nagging injuries slowing him to a career low 18 ppg this regular season. Do you really think the spurs can win championships with a duncan who is not at his best?

nagging injuries sure didn't reduce his production that much in the mavs series.

once he's healthy he's still the best player in the game (argue for kobe/bron/wade/shaq/dirk whoever all you want won't change my opinion)

Are you a dumbass or are you just trying to be? Did you not watch Duncan against the Mavs??? Also do not put Dirk in the same ing sentence as Duncan. Dirk was scared as to carry the team in the 4th of game 6 in the finals when he knew the refs werent going to ing bail his ass out and it resulted in 2 points of free throws. If Duncan showed he is on the decline with the way he played in the Mavs series... I will take it then. Dirk wont be seeing the finals anytime soon especially if Amare comes back in good shape then your really ed!

Dude, no one is trying to start a lame Dirk vs Duncan thread. In my opinion, Duncan is the better player. That still doesnt put him in the same class as magic, and that certainly doesnt guarantee any championships for the spurs.

Duncan is a HOF player who deserves to be mentioned with all the greats like Magic,MJ etc and his resume speaks on that level. With what he has done to the Spurs franchise he does belong in Magic's class in some aspects.

Then who belongs in that class? If Tim Duncan doesn't measure up then your standards are unbelievably high.

Somebody please explain to me how Duncan is supposedly in the same class as Magic.

Magic has 5 rings, Duncan has 3.

Magic is the more versatile player, he could play all 5 pos ions as DarkReign pointed out.

Magic almost averaged a triple double over his entire career.

The point is Duncan is an awesome player and a sure hall of famer, but Magic is greatness.

So because Duncan isnt as versatile as Magic is why in some ways he doesnt deserve to be mentioned in that class?

But Dirk is a practically teenage 28, while Duncan is a decrepit old man at 30. Clearly Dirk is one of the league's rising stars, while Duncan is completely over the hill.

You'd think Mav fans would appreciate a man who carries his team to championships, since many of their own players gag at the sight of the trophy.

Put Kareem on Duncan's team and they probably don't lose a championship in the 2000s.

This is about Duncan having an option in '08 and some dumbass Mavs fan sidetracks it to Duncan not being that great.

OMG for the 10 millionth time, DUNCAN IS GREAT. WTF is wrong with you? I have said that many times in this thread. The point is, magic johnson is the more accomplised player.

For the record even as a mavs fan i will admit duncan is better than dirk so quit ing attacking me, i have every right to my opinion that duncan is great but he is no magic johnson.
