And the Lakers would do this because...

Seems to me-- if the Spurs could trade Brent for Mihm plus filler, they would have done that a long time ago and never signed Elson to an offer sheet. Unless, of course, this is a back- up plan and the Spurs are now willing to part with something whom they did not want to part with to get a starting center.

I never said that the Lakers would do this...I was trying to see what players would have to be included for this "trade" to work...people were assuming that Barry would be the one traded (if this rumor is even true)...I was saying that Barry for Mihm does not work, but EWill for Mihm does.

If we get Mihm over here I want Butler and Elson to be matched because I want Oberto to get a lot of time. I'm tellin you he will surprise everyone, just if he gets a chance!
I hate to tell you, but unless they're planning on playing him ahead of Bonner and Horry at PF, the Spurs have not been making moves that remotely imply that they want to put Oberto in the rotation. They've clearly been gunning for two centers all along. Whether it's Elson/Butler, Mihm/Elson, or Lorenzen Wright and some guy off the street, there's no way Oberto is in their center plans.

It's funny that some people wouldn't want Mihm.

We are thinking about ELSON as the starting center

Mihm is a huge upgrade to that.

Anyway, the original thread starter just made this up, I'm sure.

I'm just bull ting here, but how about Barry/ErikWill for Mihm?

Both seem expendable on our part, and I think Phil could put both of them to good use. Iuno.

    Elson brings more toughness IMO...

But Mihm is definately a better all-around player. He'll hold his ground on defense, can pass well, can shoot well, has some back to the basket game. If I had to choose...I would probably go with Mihm over Elson.

salary-wise it wont work. E-will has about 6 million left on his contract and barry has about 7.5 million left. Mihm's contract is like 6 million or something like that

EWill and Mihm each have 4.2-4.3M left.

Barry only makes 5.1M this season.

So EWill for Mihm or Barry for Mihm work.

    Outgoing
    Brent Barry
    6-7 SG from Oregon State
    5.8 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 1.7 apg in 17.0 minutes
    Incoming
    Chris Mihm
    7-0 C from Texas
    10.2 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 1.0 apg in 26.2 minutes
Change in team outlook: +4.4 ppg, +4.2 rpg, and -0.7 apg.

    L.A. Lakers Trade Breakdown
    Outgoing
    Chris Mihm
    7-0 C from Texas
    10.2 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 1.0 apg in 26.2 minutes
    Incoming
    Brent Barry
    6-7 SG from Oregon State
    5.8 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 1.7 apg in 17.0 minutes
Change in team outlook: -4.4 ppg, -4.2 rpg, and +0.7 apg.

    Failed Scenario
Due to San Antonio and L.A. Lakers being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. San Antonio and L.A. Lakers had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did not happen here (only San Antonio met the condition). This trade does not satisfy the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

    I think that's wrong.

They are only 900K apart in salary.

Maybe it's because of Barry's trade kicker.

If it's not that big of a difference, I'm sure either party would be willing to do a throw-in to get the deal done.

I don't see why Realgm doesn't have it working. The salaries are within 125%.

That would be hysterical. Personally, I don't think Bynum has shown that he's developed enough to be a full-time back-up to Kwame, I think we still need Mihm. However, getting Mihm on the Spurs would be good for San Antonio.

I haven't heard any legitimate rumors of this though.

Mihm is NOT a bad pick up at the rate things are going...However, Lakes don't necessarily need another guard...BUT, they haven't signed Devean George yet. Barry does have a trade kicker as mentioned.

And they aren't going to, Devean George is gone. Lakers signed Vladimir Radmanovic to replace Devean.
