its about as annoying as someone assuming all Spurs fans act alike.

My original question stands though. What does it matter what style a team plays as long as they win championships?
It doesn't! Like I said, the Spurs are a "winning machine".

Do you also find it annoying that others believe all Spurs fans are intrinsically more knowledgable about basketball as well.

Remember Barkley has maintained all year long, that the road to the Championship will have to be through the Spurs....And the Spurs, in his book, will come out on top.

The Spurs just go about their business and win......

And he picks them to win it all.

    BARKLEY!

So we agree then that Spurs are boring?

Btw - Show me a great Duncan block since your NEW argument is that defensive plays are exciting (even thought the spurs don't even average many steals or blocks).

Oh...and Duncan doesn't throw down great dunks anymore???

Feel free to find me your favorite Duncan play EVER!!! Rookie year if you want!!
show me show me show me... what are you a kid?

watch a damn game and see for yourself.. you dont get to be a mvp cause youre boring and you certainly dont get nba championships either cause youre boring.

boring to me is all them bas s out on the courts around town who think they are the and brick 50 shots and only make 10 but they think they are ballers... thats boring. when i goto the courts i dont even care if i shoot one time as long as we win and the ball is shared and thats what the spurs do they win.

I don't get the whole boring thing. I've watched Detroit, Dallas, Lakers, Miami, Cavs, Phoenix, Denver, and the Spurs, and well, they're all "boring" in the sense that they do the same 4-5 things all the time.

The only team in the league that is truely reckless and "exciting" to watch is Golden State, every other team goes through the same motions.

What the heck makes a Kobe jumper more exciting than a Finley jumper? Nothing.
What makes a Nash layup more exciting than a Parker layup? Nothing.

The only exciting thing the Suns have going are Amare dunks and fast breaks, which the Spurs are seriously underrated in. We push the ball at every opportunity.

Nash penetrates, kickout pass to open perimeter shooter, score.

Now that's a play that Phoenix HARDLY EVER runs.

    Wash, rinse, repeat.

Anybody else sick and tired of hearing this? It seems to be popular opinion of fans who don't watch the Spurs.

I know this has been discussed before, but do any of you think that this bias might work against the Spurs in their upcoming series against the Suns since their might be calls that go against them in tight ballgames?

Phoenix is a glamour team that the league would love to see in the finals, while the Spurs are the underappreciated club that puts everyone to sleep, except our loyal fans.

I, for one am hoping that the Spurs take care of business so the games don't come down to this.
The Suns are not a huge ratings team their best player in Nash is not that flashy. Amare is not on the level of a Lebron or Wade in terms of appeal. Only chance the league has for monster ratings in the finals is if Lebron and the Cavs get there and that is not likely to happen.

League would do well if Houston (Yao) somehow got to the finals. I don't see that happening though.

The Spurs are a proven multiple time NBA Championship Team. This cannot be boring unless you don't appreciate Championship Hoops.

In the Duncan years, the Spurs have been one of the most efficient teams in NBA history. I can see where the methodical success of Duncan and crew cutting opponents hearts out is frustrating to other teams and to the fans of other teams. But boring ... not if you know what the game is truly about.

Strong defense has been the Spurs primary MO in playing Championship Hoops. The Spurs executing all other teams with their superior defense has to be frustrating for the other teams and their fans. But boring, not if you know what the game if truly about.

The Spurs are from a small market AND continue to kick the collective @sses of the big market media darling teams. In my view this makes them boring ... to all the big market hacks, parrots and bandwagon fans that have little understanding of the game.

If the "Duncan" Spurs were in LA, Houston, Chicago, New York or Boston they would be applauded by the masses as one of the greatest teams of all time, and their style would be trend setting and exciting.

But since they are ours, they are boring. And we love it!

Most of what you said i agree with...but Kareem Abdul Jabbar played in a huge market and was still considered boring.

Penny Hardaway and Shaquille Oneal played in a tiny market and were considered exciting. So were the Kings a few years ago.

No...small market is just a lame excuse by Spurs fans.

Psst ... the Magic and the Kings never won . If they had kicked the collective @sses of big market teams the average big market bandwagon fan and big market hacks would have found them boring over time.

On your other point you sound a little confused. You have said Showtime was exciting with Magic and crew. Now you are selling Kareem as a big market player who was boring.

It appears you like it both ways.

Then why do you care if the Spurs are "boring"? The only reason to bring it up is in an attempt to diss the Spurs. If the Spurs win but are boring...but you thing winning is the most important thing....it shouldn't matter how they win.

I've never understood the point of arguing that the Spurs are boring. The Spurs aren't boring to Spurs fans. And watching games throughout the season, it's rather clear that there are lots of Spurs fans around the country -- arguably, the bandwagon has grown considerably in the last few years.

Boring, ultimately, is an entirely subjective determination. Frankly, I find games that are nothing but offense to be boring. There's no suspense in wondering when and how the next basket will come; the suspense comes from waiting to see which team will make a mistake that will cost it an easy bucket. Why is that fun? To me, there's inherently more tension in a tight, low-scoring game in which every possession is critical to the success or failure of the teams playing. I think it makes for better basketball, too, because you're certain that at every moment, each team is giving everything it has on both ends of the floor. Frequently, with teams that are considered "entertaining," by whatever establishment defines that, you have the sense that the defensive end is a time for taking a break to get ready for the next offensive possession.

Perhaps I've been suckered into thinking that good, tight games without high-flying offenses and with dominating defenses are somehow entertaining. Somehow, I'm able to derive entertainment from watching NBA games without needing to see 20 dunks each night. Maybe I'm unsophisticated, or I suppose I might just not be hip enough to truly grasp what should entertain me. But, given the reactions that I see (and hear) when I go to games, it seems apparent to me that thousands of others share my sentiment.

Ultimately, I'll end where I began. Boring, like beauty, is entirely in the eye of the beholder. The value of the team I support or its worthiness as a potential champion does not and should not turn on the degree to which it is able to entertain the most common denominator. My team's worthiness as a potential champion turns exclusively on how well it executes the things that it must do to win games. If being a "winning machine" is boring, well then sign me up, because boring sure has become beautiful around San Antonio.

    1) The Spurs are still boring. If you have seen one Spurs game, you have seen them all.

"Duncan holds the ball for eight seconds....and hits a bank shot for ten feet out".

    "Ginobili hits the ground".

    "Popovic calls another timeout"

    "Horry hits a three"

    2) That doesn't mean they don't win. Suns assistant GM David Griffith labeled them a "winning machine" which i would say is accurate.
I feel the same way about phoenix and nash (which he did the exact same thing in dallas) runs down to the end of the court then slices down the baseline and dishes it out. book it.

It's a tired play but it definately works.

I've got no problem with the casual NBA fan finding Spurs Basketball boring. They don't have a rooting interest in the Spurs, and if they're not excited about a Tim Duncan bank shot or a Parker layup, that's a matter of taste.

It's when other fans try to use this as some kind of insult that confuses me... It's supposed to bother me that you don't enjpy watching Spurs Basketball? Why would I ever care as long as I enjoy it?

I agree. I am not saying that everyone everywhere should love the Spurs or their style of play but if you are going to diss a team...at least make sense. People who do that care less about winning then they do about a team looking good.

I just find it interesting that anyone claiming to be a basketball fan wouldn't enjoy well executed basketball with good defense and exciting players. Seriously, anyone that can say that Parker and Ginobili aren't fun to watch hasn't been watching (which is the point). "Ur tem iz boring. i dont watch them becuz there boring."
