I like Scola, but he's down the list of priorities this summer.
If Oberto takes the player option it will be interesting to see if, money being near the same, Spurs would chose to resign Oberto or go for Scola. Maybe go another direction. Quite a few unknowns going into the off season, Oberto, Finley, Horry, Vaughn.
I like Scola, but he's down the list of priorities this summer.
Yeah, I hope the Spurs get either Scola as a productive player and teammate or something of value although I'm not too sure either will happen. A 2nd round pick is a joke, and if the Spurs can't get at least a decent 1st for him then I'd just sit on it. Between Oberto, Elson, and now Horry probably coming back for another season I can't see where he would fit in with this team. If there was a way to get him in the frontline rotation during the season next year to keep Duncan and Horry on limited minutes for another deep le run I'd be all for it.
Ah..haha...yeah, forgot about that. I didn't watch most of those games (no tv at the time, and still no tv)...but yeah, he did play well. I remember hearing about him giving Richard Jefferson a facial back a few years?
I was excited about the Spurs having his rights back then...even after last year's FIBA games.
But after watching his recent games with tau...i just don't see it. Maybe he's like carlos arroyo in the past, where he just looks better with the national team (although he doesn't exactly disappear like arroyo when he returns to his league)
Ah...of course, the always dependable facts of kori ellis, haha...thanks for the correction, but i implore you to concentrate more on what i said with those facts (even if i messed up the specifics...i don't follow euroleagues...i just got the games).
Yeah...i meant he played for tau. And I don't think it was the finals of the euroleague but round of 16 or something?? was it against maccabi?? not sure
Really? I'd say his situation is very high on the list, buy or sell.
hes thinking Oberto should tuck in his jersey.
I didn't disagree with you about Scola. I think he's a great Euroleague player, but I have always been unsure how good he'd be in the NBA. His game is much different than Oberto, but still I don't know if he'd be good here with the Spurs. He's a low priority to sign this summer, IMO.
From what I heard from some people over there, he'll probably be in the league next year - but probably not with San Antonio.
I'm talking from a pure signing standpoint. There are more pressing needs than backup PF.
Ah I see, much thanks for the clarification.
**The reason why i implored you to concentrate on the content of what i said was because you said that it looked like i "didn't know what i was talking about in that post." I see that you were probably talking about the specific facts (missteps about Tau and the specific euroleague game that it was in) and not my analysis. But it just seems like when someone says "it doesn't look like you knew what you were talking about," it seems to imply that they are talking about the essential aspects of what they said.

scola is thinking no way do I want to play with that james fellow
Spurs can only pay about $500,000 of his buyout. So if he wants to spend 3 million or so on his own hook--without getting a commensurate salary from the Spurs to make it up--he's the master of his fate.
All them Argies are ugly but they can play.

Did you read the post that posted less than 1 minute after my initial post to you?
Don't give a . I'd root for this footballing if he could play D for Pop.

When I first saw Scola play I had a hard time trying to define it by current NBA players, that was back when Argentina beat the US. After watching Carlos Boozer play for a whole season I can now say that if we get Scola we will be getting a Carlos Boozer clone with the energy of Oberto. That's about the best way to describe his game.
Got to go with Kori ....
You don't know caca.

Scola has Manu energy
imagine Manu in a PF body
except manu usually plays great in big games scola does not
*raises hand*
I've seen 6 full games with Scola in them.
Scola is a subject of intense ddebate and discussion around here - most Spurstalkers have educated themselves on the issue.
let's see Scola in the NBA before we talk about that
Scola + Barry for S&Ted Nocioni, that's all you need to know.
Scola buyout WAS 14.5 mill EUROS (not dollars), however, his contract expires in 2008, and established that in his last year of contract, his buyout drops below 1 mill euros.
He was offfered an extension, with the highest amount signed in Europe and a renewal of a high buyout, but he refused it, to keep the last_year_low_buyout, so he could enter the NBA next season.
For the ones saying that Scola isn't much better than Oberto, perhaps they should have watched more games, both live and in videos.
Scola is a younger, better mid range shooter, faster and more athletic version of Oberto, cause he's par with Fabricio regarding Basketball IQ, size, and fundamentals.
seems primed to be picked up by the spurs
