You don't strike me as a guy that would pull up in a car where a dozen or so blacks are congregating. But if that is the case, then this single instant has led you to stereotype an entire race.

First of all, it was convenient and right on the highway. Second, it was the first time I'd ever been to Los Angeles and had no idea of the history or racial make-up of the neighborhood where I stopped for gas. Third, it wasn't until I had pumped the gas and was approaching the store that I was confronted and even noticed any of the others that were present.

I don't usually pick my gas stations based on the race of their customers or employees. Race didn't even factor in until I began to realize I must have committed some offense to garner the man's attention. And, even then, it wasn't until I relayed the incident to a friend, who lives in L.A., that I found out where I had been. Up until then I just thought he was a racist like you think I am. But then, I understood why the man was so hostile to a perfect stranger and why I wasn't getting any cordial smiles from anyone else at the station.

And, it wasn't this incident that began the thread, I brought it up to illustrate the point. There have been several events talked about in this thread that all point to what I see as a unique mob mentality in the black community.
