Can't believe I left of Glenn Danzig... his vox is amazing.
Maynard is way up there, but Chris Cornell is fantastic and in a universe of his own.
Other great voices, Weiland with STP, Layne Staley and Chino Moreno.

I can't stand Chris Cornell's Audioslave-era vocals... He was brilliant in Soundgarden but I think they deteriorated in the late nineties. JMO.
Funny...I think so too!![]()
Wow...very rare to find someone who knows that info.
On my list would be Rob Halford and King Diamond too.![]()

CAN - damo suzuki.
lanegan, homme, and garcia have each released stuff that i love... good calls. have to go with lanegan because his voice is so damned rugged yet smooth.
lanegan's "whiskey for the holy ghost" is a beautiful album. that scratchy delivery makes me want to sip on some whiskey and even though i dont smoke... smoke a cig.
Geoff Tate - Queensryche
Queen Of The Ryche, how do the hip kids say it?, owns.
Lady Wore Black a close second.
All of Operation: Mindcrime is a ing sweet CD.
I've grown tired of Chris Cornell's voice. I used to like his voice but I just feel like it's the same over and over again.
I agree. I don't care for audioslave at all. Temple of the Dog is his best work, and his album, Euphoria Morning, is very, very good as well. Soundgarden remains the most abundant example Cornell's ability.
i wasn't gonna post since i dig a LOT of rock vocalists, but noone can hate on chris in cornell. dude has perhaps the most unique, distinguished vocals ever. say what you will, this guy is very special when it comes to his voice. saw a special just today on him, and i have to say that he is most definitely in my top 5.
IMO, Chris Cornell has the greatest rock n roll voice of our generation. He has exceptional range with that whiskey-sour gruffness required to pull it all off.
The vocalists I listed earlier could all sing a completely different genre (and two of them did) and excel because they were blessed with Mariah Carey-like range.
Cornell can only do Rock n Roll, yet he is exceptional (and one uva song writer at that, I still pop in that tune from the Great Expectations soundtrack and ing weep that I didnt write that and couldnt hit the notes on my best day).
Hehe, I quoted you to go off about how "You dont have to like the music to appreciate the voice" etc, then realized why youre laughing.
<-----idiot
I want to give a shout out to Alison Krauss while we're talking about vocals... it's not rock, but she rocks me.
Ben Harper has an amazing voice.
Tunde Adebimpe
I've always been a fan of Anthony Kiedis and the snarling voice of Dave Mustaine
haha. ...that is what i would refer to as a credibility killing post.
if meant as joke, bravo.
How about the lead singer for the Strokes? Pretty unique voice.
And that singer from Nickelback is as freakin' monotone as
Anthony Kiedis, Eddie Vedder, Layne Stayley,
Gavin Rossdale had his moments. (sp on the last name)
He may not be rock, but on his rock songs, Chris Daughtry aint half bad.
Evanescence are not rock, they fail the rock test on two counts: if you are on modern era MTV or "mix" radio stations, you are not rock.
Besides, I believe it states in the Bible that the only chicks allowed in Rock are the ones that the band members are shagging.
But not being Rock doesn't disqualify someone from being a good vocalist.
I should ask Kori to change my le to "Equal Opportunity Asshole" since I started this sarcasm binge.
What was so "killing" about it? Because he didnt cite some garage band? Because he likes popular rock? Of those vocalists he mentioned, pick the ones you think "kill(ed) his credibility?"
john fogerty.
