cuz Roy still regularly horse collars.
that's true. which is why i won't argue which one is dirtier, they both are.

it's not just fans of various teams on this board that disagree with you. The NFL players voted Harrison the dirtiest player in the league both in 2004 & 2006.

Roy Williams is a great guy off the field. He is a man of good character and is well respected in the community.

On the field, however, he is fast becoming one of the biggest dumbasses in the NFL. C'mon, Roy...when the league makes a rule BECAUSE OF SOMETHING YOU DO, maybe it's a good idea to NOT DO THAT SOMETHING ANYMORE...ya think??? Enjoy your one-week vacation...

The Cowboys need to make him a linebacker or get rid of him. If he can't catch Donovan McNabb from behind then he probably shouldn't be out in space with receivers.

it is football, but you can't tackle by a facemask either.

it's not a difficult rule and 99% of the rest of the safeties in football don't have a problem with it.
Yes, but grabbing the face mask there is a greater chance of serious injury, a player can grab the mask and snap the head around more easily. I had never heard of a player getting hurt by the collar tackle b4 the rule was made, player get hurt more often from freak perfectly legal tackles than any other thing. They should alter the rule just like the face mask rule of incidental face maks, make incidental horse collar. If a player is trying to grab a player to tackle him and unintentionally grabs the pads it should be a minor infraction.

That's already the way the rule is. The officials only call the ones that are blatant. There's nothing incidental about the way Roy Williams grabs a guy's pads and then tries to drop on the back of his legs.

they already have an 'incidental horse collar' - it's called 'no penalty.'

you actually have to reach in, grab the player inside of the pads/jersey, and drag them fully down in that manner to warrant the flag.

if this were a more common occurrence, i might be inclined to agree with people defending RW. But no other safety (or linebacker or DL) in the league has a problem with NOT doing it like he does.

I like what Patrick Crayton said about it:

"The rule was put in place for Roy. You'd think if the rule was put in place for you, you might pay attention to it"

Pretty much sums it up nicely and exactly why Roy deserves to sit a game.

The previous injuries from Williams came from landing on the back of the legs of the runner while pulling them down, which he did not do to McNabb on Sunday. I you look closely at the play, he did not contact McNabb's legs. He moved away from the legs.

Williams history caught up with him. He was penalized for what happened in the past and not what he did on Sunday.

Wasn't Mark Carrier suspended a few years ago for a helmet-to-helmet hit because of a history of helmet-to-helmet hits?

BS. He didn't land on TO's legs in 04. TO's feet got caught in the turf while being pulled down from behind.

And the penalty is for pulling someone down from behind by their pads or jerseys which is exactly what he did. It has nothing to do with landing on their legs.

Um...no. He was penalized for what he did on Sunday. It's against the rules now.

Whether you agree with that rule or not is another story. But no other safety in football has trouble with this, so that should tell you something.

Dude is the EXACT polar opposite of Neon. Sanders was blanket coverage but couldn't tackle to save his hide. Williams can't cover my dead grandma with a tarp so he lays back waiting to make a hit so it looks cool, because he knows he would just get burned trying to cover, anyway.

At least the league saw thru his worthlessness this year and he didn't make the probowl.

well, technically it was his third offense, which resulted in an automatic suspension.

I've been blasting Roy all season because of his ty play, but I gotta say that this horse collar business is bull . It's ing football. You get hit. You get hurt. That's the nature of the game. It's ing violent.

I don't get why it's illegal to bring somebody down by pulling on the back of the pads, and yet it's still legal to pull on somebody's hair to bring him down. According to NFL rules, and correct me if I'm wrong, long hair is considered part of the uniform and can be used to bring somebody down.

What's next? You can't tug on a players pants? You can't pull him down by tugging on his arms? Are we going to be playing with flags soon?

    That's just pussy.

Your argument would have more weight if this were a league wide problem. But again, this rule wasn't even necessary before Roy Williams. He's the only one that has a consistent problem with it.

It still doesn't change the fact that it's gay as . Football is supposed to be the most violent sport in the world. Everyone knows this ahead of time. You expect to get hurt. If you never get hurt, you're one lucky son of a .

I swear to god that pretty soon you won't be able to even do a shoelace tackle. Rugby players are probably laughing at all this.

He broke three guys legs in one year with the move before it was outlawed, it is a dangerous tackle. And as stated before, if you have a rule put in place specifically because of you, you should probably know not to do it again.

Gang tackles break limbs with frequency too, should we have that banned too?

We can end a play by squaring up and yelling "Boo!!!" and let the player fall on his own. That's quality entertainment.

Gang tackles arent something that can be outlawed, Roy's tackling method is, seeming as he is the only guy who does it.
