Do you think that is a priority of Seattle's this year?
You mean Oklahoma City's -- and yes.

even if he went to the Suns. Which he won't. Spurs defense is great at guarding 3pt threats. Suns were always filled with good 3pt shooters. this is nothing new

and if he's bought out. WOuldn't the Spurs try to get him back? I think so. Remember. Pop is pissed at the Lakers deal so he will with Stern as much as he can.

I'm sure all this has been discussed by Barry and Pop in closed quarters.

barry is defenseless. his offense was great but hes now a very one dimensional player : spot up, in rare occassions handle the ball not to drive, but to start the offense. on the fast break he makes good decisions.

    thats about it.

Incredibly wrong...aside from the injuries, he's remarkably mobile for a man his age...

Do not confuse Pop's vision of his role on this team with his actual ability, Beno.

I'd think a buyout for Barry would be substantially less than $5 million or whatever this year's base contract value is, since the season is more than 60% complete. Barry's contract, at this point, is only worth whatever fraction of the season is left -- probably somewhere around $2 million. If the Sonics would rather not pay him (or if they'd rather not have him around taking minutes from younger players) they could offer something less than that.

Brent has an incentive to accept such a deal because it would allow him to sign with a team that might have a chance to win a le. The Sonics could, meanwhile, alleviate some payroll concerns (they're in the positive if they can get Brent to take, say, $1 million of the $2 million left on the deal, I would think).

I think the buyout scenario is quite plausible. I just wonder where he might end up after a buyout is completed. I have a sinking feeling it won't be San Antonio -- and perhaps not because Brent would prefer to play elsewhere; I wonder if the league is going to permit that sort of re-acquisition even if it's technically very different from the Stackhouse scenario.

    beno?

i didnt say he wasnt remarkably mobile, but hes still not young and athletic. and if you're somehow saying Brent's an able defender, he never was and never will be.

where was my take incredibly wrong?

dont take me wrong, I love the guy, and would hope he ended up back here. His shooting is perfect and I'll never forget that suns series in 05. But you can't really expect him to be slashing to the basket for a dunk can you? Or driving on his man throughout the game creating for others in a half court set?

As long as he doesn't indicate any such intention exists and neither does the team, what exactly can the league do about it?

Without breaking my b@lls too much, why do teams do the "buyout" instead of playing or letting a guy like Barry ride the pine until the summer and let him walk?

In other words, why not just keep Barry... what's the benefit of buying him out now?

    Question.
God damn, DOES NO ONE ON THIS SITE KNOW HOW BUYOUTS WORK???

    Suns interested in Brent Barry
    Scott Bordow, Tribune

The Suns may not be done wheeling and dealing. A team source said that Phoenix would like to find a way to acquire veteran sharpshooter Brent Barry, who was traded Wednesday from the San Antonio Spurs to the Seattle SuperSonics.

For Barry to become a Sun, the Sonics would have to buy out his contract, the source said. Barry is making $5.5 million this year and is in the final year of his contract.

Barry, 36, is averaging 7.3 points per game this year and shooting 43 percent from 3-point range. He would be an ideal fit for Phoenix, given that defenses may sag inside to try to stop Shaquille O’Neal.

If they could work Mickael Gelabale into the deal, then it would work out very well. Hopefully, Seattle would like the trade exception and a 2nd round pick, because I don't know if the Suns have much else to offer. Barry always lit up the Suns in US Airways Center, so hopefully he could do the same in Purple and Orange.

This might be the best season of NBA action I've seen in years.

Then again, there are rumblings that the Suns will also wait until after the deadline to see if any buyouts are completed and if Barry falls into that mix, it could get interesting.

I still want the Suns to go after Quinton Ross because he's long, quick, and young.... doesn't quite have the range, but Grant Hill and him could be some midrange monsters.

The Suns are in deep trade talks in an effort to fill their final roster spot before Thursday's trade deadline passes.

Phoenix is likely to target Los Angeles Clippers guard Quinton Ross, according to Sports 620 KTAR.

Ross is averaging 4.3 points and 2.4 rebounds per game while playing more than 20 minutes per game.

The three-year veteran is set to earn $800,000 this season and would fill the Suns need for a wing player.

The Suns worked out four players Tuesday in their search to fill the 13th roster spot, but Suns General Manager Steve Kerr said the Suns would strongly consider filling the final spot via trade.

People need to realize that Brent may not want to wait 30 days to sign with a team, especially if some other team really wants him. Brent took less money to come to SA and spent most of that time involved in trade rumors, including being notified he was being traded two years ago to the Hornets. Why assume he wants to come back to the Spurs?

If the Suns added Barry via the trade exception then wouldn't that put them over the lux tax threshold? That would be rather costly for a 36 year old guard who may be 60% of what he was earlier this season.

I remember in the game Barry's got injured, his last as a Spur, he surrendered the baseline and got badly burned.

    Pop was livid.

I was thinking last night about his kids' school situation. He could leave them and Erin here to finish the school year, and Erin to continue her charity work. Then decide what to do, where to retire after the season.

What's worse, if Barry does come back, the naysayers will 'find' that elusive reason to asterisk the Spurs this season. They'll say we broke the rules etc... Fortunately for us Barry is 100x smarter than Stackhouse.

Yeah, it's not like he's in SA all of the time. It's the NBA life. Sure, that could make returning to SA a plus for him. But so could a few extra mil for retirement. I'm sure the Barrys could handle a few months apart for that.

Steve Kerr's wife and kids stayed in SA an entire year when he got traded to the Jailblazers. Then when they were just about to sign papers on a house there, Kerr got traded back to SA.

It is not as if the Barrys have ties to SA. Erin has done wonderful work wherever they have lived. She has adjusted to a new city time and again. People act as if peole don't have to move and kids don't have to change schools all the time. Being in SA, military kids came and went all the time. NBA players wives and kids do the same.

Save money (it depends I think?) and open up a roster spot so you can sign a player you actually need right now (in the short term).

I think Quinton Ross would be huge. I really hope that happens. Barry is probably losing a step, but the Suns have lost a spot up 3 point shooter who they might need to replace (James Jones). Barry is probably a small upgrade over Piatkowski in the athletic department.

D'Antoni would have to play at least 8 guys, which I don't know he'll ever do. It's so lame watching this guy ruin a team that Pop and Phil would have taken to a le years ago.
