I wonder - what if Barry was purposely dawdling on the off chance that the Suns would miss out on both Giricek and Cassell?

If it were true, that would arguably be Pop's most CIA move ever.

Steve Kerr isn't stupid - they'll grab Giricek if Brent dawdles too long. They prefer Brent, but they need something (not that I think it'll help with D'Antoni's bench usage, as previously stated).

If this is down to the Suns or Spurs, i would put my money on him coming back to SA. He seems to have a great relationship with his teammates, he's won rings there and the writing is on the wall in Phoenix. The Shaq deal was a bad deal, they are not coming out of the west.

For now, I like Udoka better than Barry. The guy hustles so much and plays good defense.

However, I'm more confident with Barry gunning from downtown in the playoffs. I'm not sure Udoka can handle it as well.

He sure is milking this fake "I'm not coming back to the Spurs" thing out long enough. I think Stern is looking the other way already. Go ahead and commit to the Spurs.
Agreed. Even the Spurs went along for a few days saying "No comment". But now there's an offer on the table and the Spurs sweetened it with a third year. No sense in rehabbing in Phoenix by yourself (no family since they are in S.A.) with new doctors, trainer, etc.

Cm'on...take it, Brent, and then join the coaching staff after you play one more year next yr.

Maybe he's thinking Shaq will crumble under his weight any day now and then he can eliminate them like he did with the Rockets.

The Spurs have made Brent sweat out enough deadlines the last few years. Maybe he's just letting 'em know how it feels.
I still think it's a game that was discussed when the trade happened. The players in the game are probably just Holt, RC, Pop and BB. Of course, we'll probably never know since they are all sworn to secrecy. Maybe one of them will write a book about it someday.

Do you think the Spurs offering Brent Barry a three year deal is a good idea though?
I doubt he plays that third year. He'll be even more of a liability on D after next yr. He'll retire.

Look. This is a game that FO and BB are playing. It's not like he can be playing tomorrow. The guy is still 2 wks or more away fm playing. He can afford to wait another day. Maybe he is pulling a switcheroo on the FO and making them an extra couple of days before saying "April Fools". Pop and RC will pull BB aside and tell him "Son, you had us going there for awhile."

Assuming that this isn't all a big rouse...

I just wonder if the Suns sucking so bad lately is a deterrent or an incentive. He could view them as hopeless and write them off altogether, or he could view himself as a savior. I suppose it depends on his ego and his objectivity, but let's be realistic here: The Suns are playing an atrocious level of defensive basketball since they traded away Marion and added an over the hill and immobile Shaq to the lineup, and now they are going to add the Spurs worst defensive player to that mix?

They aren't going to stop other than their advancement in the playoffs. Look at this lineup: Nash/Barbosa, Hill/Barry/Bell, Stoudemire, Diaw and Shaq. Bell is the only good defensive player of the lot, Barbosa and Hill are decent defenders, Diaw is somewhat competent defensively, and the rest are an abortion. With Shaq slowing them down they can't outscore anybody, and they certainly can't defend anybody. How is Barry going to make a difference for them?

    In other words.

"We have no friggen idea whats going on.."
The article said that he's narrowed his choices to Phoenix or SA.
I think that's an implicit admission on his part that he's heading back here.

During the second timeout tonight, the Coyote will repel down from the rafters of the AT&T Center to do his usual thing, only the Coyote head will suddenly come off, revealing that Brent Barry is in the costume. He'll stand at center court and shout "I'm back, es!" and run off the court (reinjuring the calf).

Whottt will have an orgasm and a heart attack at the same time.

CIA Pop/ CIA Barry knows no bounds. I guess you don't become the best by half assing it. He can't play for the Spurs until the 30 days from the trade are up, so why not play it up?

Exactly my take. BB has mc'd Spurs events...the guy knows how to do tongue 'n cheek. And, yes, it is Pop's way of messing with Kerr and the Suns.

Wow. Never even thought of the possibility that Barry is following CIA Pop's orders to keep Phoenix in limbo. lol

I read somewhere that Erin's decision will be more influencial than anything else.

    I say it's 70/30 he re-signs with SA.

For the random fact department: Scene in SA magazine reports that Brent and Erin Barry own the 87th most expensive home in San Antonio.

I have no idea what that means in terms of the decision that Brent is making, but I just want to be sure that we all have all of the facts here.

If Brent have been watching the Suns his decision should be a no-brainer.
[ It was the second time this season the Hornets snapped a three-game skid with a victory over Phoenix, which New Orleans has beaten in all four meetings this season.

“We match up with them pretty well,” said Hornets forward David West, who scored 27 points. “C.P. and our guards have an advantage over their guards with their speed and ability to get up and down the floor. … It just happens that Phoenix is one of those teams that we feel confident against.” ]

With no "D", I'm sure BB knows the Suns aren't going deep. He will get plenty of PT when healthy in order to get in game shape for the playoffs. And his career will be extended in S.A. (e.g., see Horry)

Yikes. Whatever he does will only continue the threads here. Can't we all just get along...with other business. My guess is he'll come back, be inserted in a game, he'll try very hard to do well, get another cramp in one of his 36-year old legs, and we will be stuck with him through the 2009-10 season.

Please go sign with the Suns. Thing are not working out for them with Shaq. They could use you to team up with all those other 3-point shooters on that team.
