All joking aside, it's my sincere opinion that Duncan > Jordan.

I say if you take off Jordan from the Bulls teams in the 90s, and plug in Duncan, you win 8 championships rather than 6.

I say if you take off Duncan from the Spurs and plug in Jordan, you win maybe 3 championships, rather than 4,

    I say in the 1984 draft, Duncan goes # 1, Hakeem # 2, Bowie # 3, and Jordan # 4.

    I say in the 1997 draft, Duncan goes # 1, Jordan goes # 2.

Basically, Jordan is overrated because he is a bigtime scorer. For the past 100 years, the highest scorers have always been overrated.

Duncan is underrated because he is not a bigtime scorer. Duncan, like no one else but Bill Russell, cares about winning, not scoring.

I would hope that Spurs fans agree with me on this.

I think if you put Duncan on that Bulls team in the 90s and Timmy took two seasons off to pursue professional swimming, that Bulls team still wins 6 les in 8 years.

The Bulls could have won in 1990, if they had Duncan. They could also have won in 1999, if the Bulls didn't have to play the Spurs win Duncan.

Michael Jordan didn't play in 1999. And, no team was beating the Pistons in 1990.

The Bulls almost did. If they had a lineup of Pippen, Grant, and Duncan, they would have.

Thread: Official Duncan > Jordan thread

This is the requested thread where you argue that Duncan > Jordan.

I will start off the debate:

Duncan > Jordan because Duncan is a better rebounder and shotblocker. Jordan was also a guard, not tall enough to dominate like a big man. There was also a conspiracy by the NBA to have the refs give Jordan tons of gift calls.

    There you have it!

    Duncan > Jordan
This is Sacralige. There is only 1 player in the History of Ever that can be mention in the same breath as Michael Jordon as far as greatest player ever and that is Wilt Chaimberlin. They are 1a & 1b. Period.

Duncan has completed his first 10 NBA seasons. Let's compare Duncan's first 10 to Jordan's first 10:

    Rings

    Duncan 4, Jordan 3

    1st team, all-NBA

    Duncan 9, Jordan 7

    Finals MVP

    Duncan 3, Jordan 3

    MVPs

    Duncan, 2, Jordan 3

    TOTAL

    Duncan 18, Jordan 16

    Others, first 10 years:

    Bird 17
    Russell 17
    Magic 17

No other player hits 18. No one is even close after 10 years.

    Duncan > everybody

Numbers don't tell the whole story.

    I could say...

    Ginobili-
    euroleague champion plus MVP award
olympic gold medalist plus MVP award
and in his first five NBA seasons 3 rings and for many peolple one MVP snub
whithout counting all the other championships and MVP's he's won.

With all these things i could easily say Manu=Greatest basketball player ever.

But that is ridiculous... or not?

You do realize that in 1985-86, Jordan only played 18 games because he got injured right? He didn't qualify for regular season awards. And, in 1994-95, he came back for the last 17 games of the season returning from his baseball experiment. Again, he didn't qualify for regular season awards. In the first 10 seasons where he would qualify for regular season awards, he was 1st team all NBA 9 times and led his teams to 5 NBA les.

edit: also, 4 league MVPs and 5 Finals MVPs

If you do the comparison for entire careers, you have:

    Jordan 27 (15 years)
    Kareem 24 (20 years)
    Magic 20 (13 years)
    Russell 19 (13 years)
    Duncan 18 (10 years)

    Bird 17
    Cousy 17
    Shaq 16
    Wilt 14
    Havlicek 13
    Karl Malone 13
    Bob Pet 13

    Jerry West 12
    Oscar Robertson 11
    Hakeem 11
    Sam Jones 10
    Elgin Baylor 10

I think this is everyone who hits 10.

    I realize that.

Do you realize that in 2000, Duncan got injured and missed the playoffs?

Do you realize that Duncan battled injuries in '04, '05, and '06?

Do you realize the Spurs probably would have won the NBA les in '04 and '06 had Duncan not been battling injuries? And Duncan would have likely been the Finals MVP?

Do you realize that Duncan was not 100% in '05, and the Spurs won anyway?

Do you realize Duncan lost his 1st team all-NBA slot in '06 because of injuries, and possible more MVPs?

Do you realize that when Jordan took that time off, he got lots of rest, rest that Duncan does not get?

Do you realize that Duncan stayed four years in college, missing one or two years of NBA play?

Do you realize that Duncan plays in the Western conference, which has been the much tougher than the east since Duncan entered the league?

Even with all of those accomplishments, if you still tried to assert that Manu was the greatest basketball player of all time, someone would commit you for severe mental re ation.

Jordan never won an NBA le against a team with a franchise center. Nor would he fare well against the Spurs. Jordan retired because he was afraid of Tim Duncan.
