i think the mavs best chance of getting to 2nd round is to play the spurs in 1st round. if the mavs get LA, that will be hard to watch.
HAHAHAHA. Mavericks would win in 6. Of course if a injury occurs to the Mavericks will throw that out the window. I'm telling you Spurs fans, watch the injury reports. A great sign for another championship would getting the Rockets in 1st round. Yao is already out. Again its not the Spurs fault they won championships this way.
Go Spurs Go!!!!!!!

Lakers would be a tough match for the Mavericks. As of right now Lakers would kill them. Its just strange watching the Mavericks with Kidd lose to teams they beat with Harris. I don't get that. I am thinking lakers and Suns in West finals if the bracket falls the way for that to work.

Phoenix should be the matchup the Spurs are wanting to avoid, not Dallas.
The Spurs best chance at avoiding Phoenix is to sew up that #2 spot. Phoenix is not dropping to 7 but could easily be there as a #6 seed if SA slips to #3.
I also dont think Popovich is so scared of any first round matchup that he's willing to trade away HCA in round 2 vs. the Lakers. That'd be pretty stupid for a team that's won 4 les to position itself for the best first round matchup at the expense of HCA in a round the team is more likely to actually get beat.
The only possible series upset of the Spurs in round 1 IMO is Phoenix.
Though the spurs won't be easy, I think we have a much better chance against them than the Lakers. Avery is so stupid when it comes to having to double team a player.
I'm all for playing the best... but I'd rather be on the other side of the bracket.
I believe it's NO-GS and Utah-Houston on one side and Lakers- Suns, Spurs- Mavericks on the other.
going through GS and either Utah houston would be a of a lot easier than going through dallas, phx, No... although i'd love to see the lakers-suns matchup hold up. at least 1 elite team is going home in the first round and it's going to be interesting to see how it shakes up.
who ever called for Eric Dampier to go 25 feet from the basket and doulbe team the PG with the ball is a freaking idiot. That play x 2 resulted in 2 easy layups for the Lakers in the last 2 minutes. Other than Josh Howard throwing of the head band that was the "stupidest" play(s) ever.
oh, the spurs woudl beat the Suns in 6 but the Mavs........could be another 7 game classic
It should be Lakers 1, 2, and 3. They're the team I fear the refs would really us with the calls. Maybe the Suns a little too. The rest of the teams aren't media darlings at all and Stern wouldn't care who won.
As for pure basketball strategy, I have no idea why you fear Dallas at all. They can't guard us. They traded away their two best defensive players and Kidd can't shoot. All we have to worry about with them is defensive rebounding and getting back in transition.
Phoenix is a little more complicated match-up, but again they really can't guard any of our big three either and unless the calls are comically one-sided, I think we'd get the better of it, especially with home court. Let's see how Wednesday plays out.
All you non-Spurs fans are in here talking up some stupid about Dallas, Phoenix, and Laker's being more than capable of beating San Antonio. Truth is, you sorry dip-weeds are using the regular season as a gauge to size up your pathetic teams against the Spurs when every Spurs fan knows that they are a different team in the P.O. We have absolutely nothing to prove. We've been tested and proven.
Phoenix: You'll get much of the same as last year only with the great tired old Mumbler on your roster.
Dallas: You couldn't punch your way out of a wet paper bag if your precious Mark Cuban offered a 100 million incentive to nut-up and actually throw a punch just so everyone wouldn't think you're a bunch of choke jobbers(this year).
Los Angeles: Kobe is not the consumate team player that he wants everyone to think. When the tough gets going, watch this dude to go back to his selfish play. Still not a Championship caliber team.
New Orleans: Byron Scott is the head coach. Pop pulled his chones down and bare hand spanked this punk on national t.v. in the 2003 Finals.
Homer alert. lol
Yo Mavs fan, the stench of the 2006 Finals is still in the air. You guys can't seem to stay under a rock long enough to let the air clear. Then you go on to crap that embarrassing loss to the Warriors.
You have a lot of nerve to call me a "Homer".
PSSST, we have a trophy case at the AT&T center with four O"Briens. Yeah, I'm a homer alright.
The Spurs aren't as dominate this year. They don't stand out over any of the other teams (Hornets, Mavs, Suns, and Lakers) Continue to live in the past though.![]()
Well yeah but I don't think that's gonna happen... not that many games left.
I'd rather take my chances with this years Spurs than any team in the west. After all, the Mavs and every other "wanna be" traded specifically to get over the hump that is the Spurs. Like I said, we know our team better than you know your own Mavs. In fact, once the Spurs dispose of Dallas in the first round, we won't see you in here until next season(maybe). Deep down inside you know this. But hey, you do what ever you do to convince yourselves that the Mavs have a chance.
We've beat your team before. I don't see why we can't beat you again. I fear the Lakers more matchup wise. Maybe the Hornets would be our easiest matchup but we'll take whatever we get. Btw I'm here all year whether offseason or not. A loss is not going to stop me from coming to spurstalk.![]()
Mavsfan, I don't gauge a series based on regular season games, but your know we are 3-1 for the year with Dallas. Now having said that, getting beat in 2006 was a "go either way" series because the outcome was so close it needed a moth to fart just to give either team the edge to win in the end. Yes, a win is a win, but you guys come in here with the "we beat you before" and forget how close that series really was. I don't have confidence that Dallas will be as tenacious as that 2006 crew. I know you do, but you always stop short when reliving great moments and it does you proud that you beat San antonio when it proved absolutely nothing because you flat out choked in the finals. How the do you think that makes us Spurs fans feel.
It's one thing to get beat by the Mavs, it's another to see them move on and lose the whole damn thing. We were not only pissed that Dallas folded like lawn chairs, we were freakin pissed and embarrassed.
At least I have the confidence that the Spurs will mean business when facing any of the west teams. And you better be damn good because in order to be the best, you've got to beat the best.
Mavs-lakers matchup is much harder for the mavs than Mavs-Spurs. We already know how to play yall and it would be much more satisfying to spoil your season
Screw it.
Houston, Dallas, and LA all beat the Spurs the last time they played them in the post-season.
I want them all.
Great, another Mavs fan who thinks they've proven so much. Hey, how's that "fireavery.com" drive coming along?
Just funny talk...nobody believes it. Kinda like Tony and Eva's marriage
That's fine, I don't mind other fans coming into this forum and talk Bball and such. It's that sometimes we get some real headcases who can't seem to look beyond the color blue. We have this character who is so odd, he himself can't say if he truly is either a Mavs fan or Spurs fan. I'm talking about "Mouse". I gotta beat this guy down when he spews his crap in this forum.
Don't you just love mav fans? They beat us 2 years ago and they are still celebrating it like they won the championship. They have nerve to come on the SPURS board to talk trash. When what on earth can they possibly say to any champion? It's a lot of noisy, y, arrogant bravado from their fans and some of their players. Instead of being humble and grasping an appreciation of how difficult it is to earn a championship, they choose to diss and down play the Spurs championship. Somehow that one series made them think that they were invincible and that the Spurs are afraid of them. Let me show my age......POPPY !!!!
Jealousy is such an ugly thing.![]()
Enough of that![]()
Nobody with any sense looks at it like a championship...But it's winning a series and it means something.
If you played any sports in school you know its good for your mental psyche if you have already beaten a team in a hard fought contest. It means you do it again and you know what it takes to do it again.
Spurs are a better matchup for the mavs than the Lakers from my perspective. No jealousy or iness needed for that assessment. And its far from trash talk
If you really think about it, what else are you gonna do? To have been so close to the prize then experience an abomination on national T.V. You gotta feel for them. Yes it gets annoying that they bring that loss of two years ago, but when are you really going to make something for yourselves and take your place with the Spurs at the Parthenon. Just don't pretend that other stuff didn't happen, it makes them look foolish.
They say they have a Championship caliber team. Fine. Don't come in here and pound your chest and remind us of the 2006 series. Unlike Mavs fan, we know what a Championship caliber team is. We know what it takes to earn a championship.
Great, this thread went off the rails into Rivals.com 6th grade re smack. We can sum up the lameness as follows:
Mav fan: "We beat you two years ago."
Spur fan: "4 rings!"
I'd rather talk X's and O's. The Spurs are vulnerable, they're basically Tim, Manu and a bag of , but that's good enough to make a deep run regardless. Dallas has as good a shot as anybody to beat them, but some of Kidd's strengths are neutered against a team like San Antonio that has excellent transition defense and can make sure the ball is funneled to him to shoot in half-court sets. The Spurs still don't have any answer for Dirk and that's what will keep the Mavs compe ive, but I would say Spurs in six. Would love to be proven wrong though.
Is the lame smacktalk alll that we have to look forward to if the Mavs and Spurs meet up in the playoffs?
