"team with strengths at every position"

Wiz allow the most PPG of any team, so Eddie doesn't have them playing defense (which makes wonder whether Eddie was really he guy, as rumored when he left for WAS, behind Byron's 2 defense-oriented Finals appearances with the Nets).

So the Wiz are no different from all other top/better teams: they try to outscore you but don't really make an effort on the other end.

Spurs are unique, to the point of being weird, among the top teams in emphasis on defense-first.

Note that LAL/playoffs beat SA with defense, not offense. And of course DET 04 and Spurs 03 won it with defense/offense total.
Did you actually watch the sonics-wiz game or just read the box score. The gritty Wiz team buckled down at home on a high powered sonics squad and won the game. I wouldnt take this team lightly. They are young and hungry. The Spurs are the measuring stick of the league and right now struggling on the road with a three game road losing streak. If the Spurs dont come into the game focused they will get beat. The Spurs cannot shoot under 40% and win against the Wiz.

I'm not taking the Wiz lightly, but their weakness is defense. PHX led by quite a lot most of the game, and still scored 103 on Wiz, without MVP Nash, as befits the Wiz no-defense game.

The "good" Spurs should win this game easily. I have no idea which Spurs will show up tomorrow night. Spurs will probably get the win, but it will probably be an ugly W.

Then again, it could be like the PHX@SA blowout, too. The outcome, W or L, will be decided by the Spurs (defense), not by the Wiz.

I was really hoping the Spurs would impose their will on houston last night. the Spurs will get another chance to impose their will tomorrow. All I got to say is GO SPURS

You people are ing spoiled. The team is playing > .750 ball by mid January, which NEVER happens in SA, and you gotta cry 'cause it ain't perfect. If you were Suns fans, you'd probably be hanging by the shower rod, since a 3 game funk obviously overrides being the best in the West. Like it or not, these aren't your usual Rockets. We could almost always count on one of the LOVERS putting up a bad shot or three to send SA on a run. This is like almost any other JVG team in history: defensively oriented. Now you know how the other teams feel when SA puts the clamps on.

same mentally that thinks best regular season record with no championship is a great season. The Spurs have managed to become the measuring stick in the league. The bar is raised there should be more accountability for lack of FOCUS

Uh, no, I never said that. I repeat that you're ing spoiled, having your team win two championships in recent years. They're not going to win it every year. I know that, and just enjoy the ride, win or lose. It's like you want some sort of ing guarantee, or something.

I'm sure that Pop will be calling you for advice. He'll have you come into the locker room for a fire and brimstone speech that I'm sure the players will not ignore.

I believe this team has the better chances among all teams in the NBA to win a championship, and I understand everyone would like to see them playing full potential troughout the season, but you can only apreciate a victory when you have tasted defeat. I remember that three weeks ago, some of you were posting threads like: "please it must be a tough game, I am tired of blowouts."
    People are never happy

it must be fun to live your life with such low expectations, and you call me spoiled. I guess people arent raised with the same take pride in your work and work hard and anything can be accomplished at ude anymore. I'm just glad the Spurs players and coaches don't buy into the slacker at ude of I dont care whether I win or lose I'm just here to have fun.

2 championships in 20 years is not that great. Since this is the golden age of the Spurs I just hate to see them throw away chances. Kinda like how Spurs ownership and management wasted David's prime years. Excuse me for wanting better these current Spurs.

Meanwhile, I went to church, watched some football, got out and played some 3-on-3 and I renewed my appreciation for what it means to have your legs late in a game.

Play it, live it, know it.

    Go Spurs, beat the Wizards.

But according to you, they do! Are you defending them now? What effect is getting your panties all in a wad going to have on the team? Do you think you have some magic effect when you get mad?

Firing Duncan for lack of "focus"?

I am disappointed that we lost another close game but overall, I am not worried.

If Tim's lack of aggression keeps him healthy and the Spurs pull 60+ wins, I will be estatic. I do not see any team in the west that could hang with a healthy Spurs squad in a seven game series. The ultimate goal is to win a championship and I think the Spurs are on the right path.

What is most curious, is that Pops subs ution pattern doesn't seem to have any rhyme or reason...Also, Barry is finally shooting well. He's hitting 50% from the 3pt line for the month of January...let him play WITH TIM!!! One thing for him has been the change of being a starter for the last 5 years to a 6th man...But the biggest thing, is how are you supposed to get good looks at the hoop when your only getting 4 shots a game, and playing off of Nesterovic or Rose as your post players. I know he was shooting bad, but he's not getting the type of looks the other guys get when they get to shoot wide open as Tim gets double teamed. Give the guy some minutes with Duncan and see how he responds!

P.S. I can't remember the thread, but I saw some talk about no state income taxes in Texas as a factor of why he signed with the Spurs...The people that were saying this, ought to be banned from this forum. Could be the stupidiest thing I've seen written...The guy wants a ring. Oh by the way, there isn't any state income taxes in Seattle either, and he had the option to re-sign with them...

Well, typical pattern would be Spurs suffer a dumb loss on the road, come home and take it out on their next opponent, and I'd say the fact that they'd back home makes this scenario more likely. Barry will start and have a solid game, as he did last time he started.

so if I got u right,u want them to win 82games???or have the 72-10 bulls season???
I can understand that u want them to do right,u want them to win every game, but since we know they can't win every game,we can still be pleased that they are doing right 30-9,second seaded overall, really, what else do u want???i wanna know what u were saying last year, and the year before that, and then 3years ago,how about the 1996-1997 season???
son, don't burn these guyz, just respect what they are doing, like somebody posted before, play the game, live it and know it,then I'm sure u won't often come and criticize these guys.

what if u had a son, that was always making some slow starts in school, and then, all of a sudden,he's succeding,he's second on his class with A grade overall, but one night,he comes home with a bad exam. would u still emphasize on his bad exam,or u might want to congratulate him on his grade overall, then he might continue, think about that.

there is nothing wrong with him wanting a championship. In fact, thats what we should all be hoping for because these next 4-5 may be the best chances for us to win 2-3 in a row or just 2-3 out of 4-5.

Well, the Spurs just finished embarrassing the Wizards, and without Manu! What can I say, perhaps, " On any given NBA game, one team may not show up." I thought sure a team that has won 7 straight games, against some pretty good teams, would absolutely show up. I was wrong. Is it something about road games? The Wizards hardly put up a fight.

    "against some pretty good teams"

huh? Not one of these teams plays ANY defense:

    Atlanta W 104 - 101
    New Jersey W 112 - 88
    Seattle W 107 - 96
    Minnesota W 117 - 114
    Portland W 104 - 100
    @ Milwaukee W 105 - 103
    Phoenix W 108 - 103

Like the Spurs@Rockets, throw some serious defense at the jump-shooting offense-only teams, and they go s up.

The only teams that are serious about D are Spurs, Pacers, Rockets, Pistons. DET won @WAS before the WAS streak, and Spurs won today to end it.

Eddie was at NJ with Byron for the two Finals, so I'm mystified that he doesn't require a defensive effort.
