Ricky could do a lot of good for the Spurs, but his defense worries me. People keep saying "Finley was a terrible defender"... Finley at least tried and he could not physically do it. Ricky has the tools to be a decent defender, he just does not do it and that bothers me. He could really help though, especially with his size and ability to pass, shoot and finish.
hes not that bad though, hes at worst average 1v1 defender.

Ricky Davis averaged nearly 15ppg last year. He is an excellent 3pt shooter, a solid defender, can get to the basket and has matured over the last 2 years in miami. He is only 28 and can play the 2 or 3 what would you think about adding him to our roster.

Ricky Davis wouldn't know defense if he saw it on a flash card.

Better than Fin and Barry and he can score something we need. All these people talking about we need a fourth scorer, in the west you need a fifth scorer!

Sure he's borderline crazy and he's more self absorbed than a black hole....BUT....I can't believe I'm saying this...we could use his offense....he can score and take the offensive load off of Tim, Tony and Manu...who knows maybe he'll straighten out playing with winners for once in his career??

    I can't believe it's come to this.

Tough call. He was the best player on the Cavs (statistically anyway) the year before LeBron arrived and they still got rid of him because they thought he'd be a bad influence.

I wonder what the cutoff line is with talent vs at ude for most fans, because it seems like lots of guys get dismissed in this forum based on their at ude or maturity levels, but if they can score a little-- like JR Smith or Ricky Davis-- then they are given the OK. It's a close call, with good examples on both sides. Rodman worked out beautifully in Chicago, but Artest basically destroyed a championship caliber Indiana team.

I do not think the majority of Spurs fans watch enough basketball to keep up with Ricky Davis' antics. He has not been in the spot light for a while, so I think fans would just recognize his name, look up his stats, and say alright. He is no where near Artest imo. He has never run into the stands to fight. He would be a great pick up, but I do not know if the Spurs have the dough...

he's garbage. what are you people thinking? there's a reason that no team that acquires him keeps him.
There is a reason that every team that got Maggette didnt keep him, and same with Artest, Elton Brand, Barron Davis...ect....He can score and is athletic and is the best FA left. IF we dont get more scoring we will not win another le

He's not as volatile as Artest, but he's not as talented either. But what I'm saying is there's a certain point talentwise when the at ude problem seems to begin to be forgiven. If a guy with a bad at ude averages 4 pts in 20 minutes as a 6th man and is suggested as an addition, almost everybody says "no" or " no!" or "no in' way!" but if a guy with a bad at ude averages 10 pts per 20 minutes, some of those same people say things like "Pop could keep him in line," or "Timmy would be a good influence on him," etc... Do spurs fans really take pride in having a high character team first and foremost, or is it something they'd willingly compromise on? Hill and Mason seem like such high character guys, so it seems to me that those issues still loom large for Pop and RC.

They have shown willingness to take a chance....Steve Jackson....Jarren Jackson....paid off both times. Ricky has a bit of a mouth, but doesnt get kicked out of games, or suspended, or arrested. I believe he would fit well. He came into the leauge at 19 and has matured. He would also not be the first or second option like he has been which could take pressure off him. We need scorers and after Maggette he is the next best thing. Worth a sort term deal and if it doesnt work buy him out you lose nothing. If it does work, then you now have a team that can have 4 scores on the floor at all times.

I think Ricky has shown now that he is no longer a punk. So although he had some problems, I think they are behind him. People do want to have their cake and eat it to. Not everyone is a perfect citizen. If Bruce Bowen was not a Spur, people would call him dirty and such...I think it is a business and there is a fine line to walk for RC and Pop.

I'd re-sign Steve Smith before bringing this career-loser in.

Here's a better example: Ty Cobb went into the stands many times in his career. Artest did it once. Cobb was an unapologetic racist, he got in fights all the time, and even stabbed someone. Yet, he's enshrined in the Hall of Fame. Artest is under greater media scrutiny, but I doubt his behavior is worse than Cobb's. But the same is true of both: if Cobb batted .255, how long would a team have put up with him? And if Matt Bonner behaved like Artest, would he still have a roster spot?
