...and effing it up big time

Extending this further, it’s also Hegseth intentionally humiliating the military out of resentment at only being an alcoholic National Guard major limited in both intelligence and management skills that couldn’t truly make a career out of the military.

    muzzling Stars and Stripes

Max D. Lederer Jr., the longtime publisher of Stars and Stripes, announced his retirement Tuesday, ending a three-decade career at the news organization amid Pentagon efforts to expand oversight over its operations and content. He was the second full-time civilian to hold the position of publisher, taking the helm in 2007. The job is responsible for the worldwide business and editorial operations of Stars and Stripes, which includes a newspaper as well as hundreds of other yearly publications.

Lederer said he decided to step down because it had become clear that his philosophy of leadership and “understanding of the value and mission of Stars and Stripes” differed in “fundamental ways” from plans the Defense Department has for the organization. “I have thought a great deal about the right time to step aside, and I have concluded that this is it,” he said in a note to staff. “I leave with real pride in what we have accomplished together and with complete confidence in what you will accomplish next.”

In an interview, he said he did not feel the modernization efforts the Pentagon announced in March were the right ones. He expressed particular opposition to transitioning all print products to a digital format, fearing it will limit accessibility for troops. “I don’t feel that there’s a full recognition of the value of multiple platforms versus only a digital platform,” Lederer, an Army veteran, said. “There is value to being able to have a monthly magazine or an annual magazine for people who are in a transitional environment.” He said he believed the organization needed to advance into other technological fields, including artificial intelligence, but felt out of sync with “the pace and the direction” being set by the Pentagon.

“I think the right step is for me to step down, get out of the way, and let different leadership step in and continue to make this, the great organization that it is, even better,” he said. His retirement comes after the Defense Department in April fired the publication’s ombudsman, a role charged by Congress with safeguarding the newspaper’s editorial independence.

Rubio is the establishment pick, Vance the ins utional pick and Don Jr the dynastic pick, if Trump will get off the throne -- not a given.

Hegs is still relatively young in political terms.

I don't see Rubio moving the needle. I don't see Junior getting anywhere close. I see Vance in the short term, Hegs in the distance.

Bonus punch in the gut: they waited until right before school started to send about 45 days of advance notice.

Army sounds better and better every day under this administration. Where can I sign up?

GCC countries bet on the wrong security partner. Heavy bribes to Trump did not pan out.

According to a Tuesday article, the Pentagon's policy office is evaluating whether to retreat long-term from the Persian Gulf after Iranian strikes battered military bases. The Washington Post reported that damage to the bases presents a "once-in-a-generation" chance for the Pentagon to reevaluate its footprint in the Middle East.

The shift would leave battered bases unrepaired and move U.S. forces back, according to The Post. A person familiar with the change told The Post that U.S. Central Command is considering keeping in place shifts away from bases that were evacuated because they were too vulnerable to Iranian missile and drone attacks.

" Iran thinks we are in the traditional places," the person told The Washington Post. "And we are not."

The Post noted that the Pentagon's retreat could impact U.S. allies in the Gulf because they rely on the presence of U.S. forces in the region for defense. The move could leave them "unable to defend themselves against Iranian attacks," according to The Post.

looks like SECDEF has his own personal minder too

The Pentagon has not said if Mrs. Hegseth has a security clearance, although in the past year there have been no reports that she is attending sensitive meetings with foreign leaders. She has still slipped quietly into the Pentagon, including using an elevator from the building’s garage that opens directly into Mr. Hegseth’s office suite. She is in direct contact with members of her husband’s inner circle, among them Ricky Buria, Mr. Hegseth’s chief of staff
One person familiar with Mr. Hegseth’s thinking said that the defense secretary likes his wife to travel with him to keep him out of trouble. Mr. Hegseth, who has a history of heavy drinking, has himself made clear he needs his wife at his side. He often credits his “two J’s” — Jennifer and Jesus — with transforming his life.

Mrs. Hegseth was for years Mr. Hegseth’s producer at Fox News as he built a broadcast career. Now, seven years into their marriage, she is his most influential adviser & his de facto producer at the Pentagon.

On a secondary point, he needs to stop calling it the Dept of War. It's currently the Department of Losing and staffed with WarLosers.

Fort Stewart in Georgia is currently offering four fleeting days with Grand Theft Auto VI in exchange for two-to-six more years of service, according to CBS. Soldiers who reenlist between Aug 1 and Nov 14 will be granted a special pass that, per the terms of the contract, coincides with “the highly anticipated release of the video game Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6).” For now, the offer is limited to a lone battalion, but it could apparently be expanded to others.

"The idea was to have a unique incentives program that connects to what Soldiers are interested in," Lt. Col. Angel Tomko, a spokesperson for the 3rd Infantry Division, told CBS. "The command team, in conjunction with the career counselor, wanted to get soldiers excited to reenlist."

20 soldiers (of around 130 eligible) have accepted the offer.
