Kind of like giving Gee credit for having long arms? I may err on the side of being overly impressed by intelligent play (even when the player doesn't have the tools to accomplish what he's attempting every time), but I'd rather do that then make blind guesses on players being better for the team based on their ability to jump.
And the only player I've really defended has been Bobby Simmons. I think he's the Spurs best available option for the back up SF. I haven't really said anything about the way Gary Neal plays, and I've expressed both optimism, and frustration with Richard Jefferson.
More than defending players with blind optimism I've been critical of long-time posters who have become cynical of any new players above the age of 25, and arrogant towards fans with a "sunny disposition." I get that people who just want to scream "go spurs go! we're the best!" probably don't have as much basketball knowledge as posters like yourself, but I don't see the point in treating them like trolls who need their peppy spirits crushed on a site built for San Antonio Spurs fans.
I'm critical of style, and offer counter opinions when I'm skeptical of someone's viewpoint, but I think some of the "veteran" ST posters have gone too far in their pursuit of "raising the bar." There is no reason to make every post/thread created an attempt to convince people that any negative opinions of the team should be more important than positive ones.
