He'll be the Spurs version of Brandon Bass, Paul Millsap, Leon Powe.. Now consider these scenarios: Pops shows he's got game to the delight of Spurs fans. Then next year Gist joins the team and shows that he's got game too.. then all of a sudden Tiago Splitter becomes available and joins the team too.. the Spurs frontline problems become a distant memory. can't blame me for dreaming.
True. Even if Spillter doesn't join, the Spurs will most certainly add Ian to the rotation. If all those scenarios come true, the Spurs will have instantly remade and overhauled their frontline. They become woefully unathletic to supremely athletc.

Agreed. And if he finds his nba game im sure it will bring better things out of oberto and thomas. If this happens and our 4 top dogs play well and together consistently watch out, we can make it interesting.

pops owned splitter and scola in the championship last year.....he's ready for prime time.
    once more.
first off, Pops has never ever met Scola in a game, not exactly a strong foundation for a claim that he has owned him.
when you refer to this Spanish league game, when Pops met Splitter, you should not withhold the fact that Splitter had 17 points on 8-8 FG in just 19 minutes PT in that game. getting owned looks a bit different in my book.

Yeah, Pops dunked a lot in that game, but he didn't exactly defend a lot either...

I went to the Toro's game last night and Pops wasn't there although he was listed on the inserted one-page lineup. I talked to one of the score keepers at halftime and he said Pops was probobly getting called up by the spurs, then a few of them laughed and said "but he'll be back by next week".

If Matt Bonner can become a decent defender in this system, I'll hold out hope for anyone who hustles.

That's actually very interesting. Might have to do with another player's pending buyout.

He's going to have to show something if he wants to be around beyond Manu's return.

"A man possessed" is the description used by Pops as to how he will compete at this or any other level. I like that.

Pops was at the Spurs/Mavs game last night... i was in section 104 and he was sitting on our left with RC Buford.

Its pretty impossible that he'll be around or see any minutes in the playoffs, but if we don't get a buyout guy like Joe Smith or Rasho, don't we NEED a fifth big on the roster?

I would be floored if somehow Tiago decided to join the Spurs next season. Economically, his situation likely will be no different than it is now. Tau will be able to offer him more money and Spurs will be financially hamstrung again. In my mind, the Spurs should go after Rasheed Wallace regardless.

Seriously, Pops is 6'10 in tennies right? Do you really think he's big enough and girthy enough to really help us out? He's gained some pounds but he doesn't seem that big to me in the clips I've watched. I hope he really is. What do you think?
However it pans out,we should still go after someone like Sheed in the summer.

Can anyone comment on Pop's stint with the Mavs? Apparently they weren't impressed enough to keep him. So what has changed in pop's game since then?

Pops was and still is a very raw basketball player. Back during his stint with the Mavs, he had "0" offensive capabilities. They liked him, but didn't necessarily have time to develop him. Once they found Brandon Bass, who is really a more polished version of Pops, it made him sort of expendable.

Besides being a rebounding and shotblocking phenom, which he's always been, apparently, Pops can now convert from 5-10 ft range. I don't know how consistently he can do that. I'll defer to Chump and others who have watched him in D-League for that analysis.

Supposedly he measured 6-9 in shoes at the pre-draft camp. It's possible that he's grown some since then. I'm rooting for the guy to prove me wrong here, but all I see is an undersized PF with limited to no skills who's getting by in the NBDL by simply being a better athlete than everyone else. If the team need is for a guy who can guard skilled 6-10+ power forwards and centers, I really don't think this is the guy.
