And it was soundly rejected then, too.
    Time showed Clinton was right.

The American people voted him in and voted in a majority of his party to the Congress. They have the right to pass their legislation through. I did not agree with some of what Bush did but he won and that is what you get to do-- pass your legislation.

I thought health care reform was a necessity almost 20 years ago when Clinton tried to do something about it, and I will have more respect for Obama doing something about it even if it supposedly might harm his re-election bid.
We can't afford it, don't want it plus the american people voted him in because of the promises he told. On this topic he promised live debate on C-Span, ya know, to show the process of health care. We didn't get that. Instead we got the complete opposite. Lockout the other party for over a year, bribe senators, do not listen to the people, ignore the polls, elections (Mass, Virgina and NJ) and when he has his first meeting with the repugs, he has a bill posted 4 days before the meeting and tells them if they can figure out away to give 30 million people free insurance that he will listen. Problem is they don't want to give 30 million people free insurance, they don't want government to run Obamacare, they don't want higher taxes to pay for this, the repugs want reform in other ways. So durning the debate they show the prez how to lower cost and ideas on how to make insurance better and what do we get from Obama. The last few minutes of the debate, Obama tells the repugs if I don't see you move towards us, we will go forward without you. In that sense the debate was a waste. But for the doubters this guy sucks ass, it was well worth it.

The left has been yearning for socialized medicine for over 70 years. I guess the GOP has been doing a good job for a long time.

I was holding out for Change and Hope. People were lied to by Obama and that's why he was elected president. You're cool with the winner of the free world going to the biggest liar. Let me use your language so you are not offended, the winner goes to the perosn who promises the most. Dude, you are such a repug troll, pretending to be a dem.

Yes healthcare is now almost unaffordable to the middle class. be proud for doing nothing and scaring everyone when someone has tried to do something about it

When did reconciliation stop being the nuclear option?
When the Republicans used it to pass two Bush tax cuts leading to a 1.2 trillion dollar deficit?

I'm middle class and I'm one of the 95% who are satisfied with their health insurance (of the 85% of all Americans that have insurance).

The only thing I fear is creating another huge en lement program when existing en lement programs are already going broke. This would be doing "something".

    Heck, I'll even site a far-left website:

    http://mediamatters.org/research/201002220019

There are some links to more recent polls at the bottom of the page.
As usual, the majority doesn't represent the "American People" to you. But it is amazing that the majority of Americans do still want it even though it's been labeled as the devil by Republicans. And of course, every republican in congress has government run socialized healthcare, so more typical hypocrisy from the right.

I guess after they ram this through and a bunch of Dems lose their seats, this will be even further evidence of how a majority of Americans want Obamacare.

The Democrats were elected in office so they have the votes. They can go nuclear (nuclurh) if they like. However they realize they will pay a cost politically. Morris who has been pretty right with all his predictions and polling says that the real question for the Dems if they do this isn't what seats are in danger, but which seats are safe. Every seat will be contested. And it will all be with one issue.
Also the precedent that will be set from doing this. They can say all they want about when the Repubs did the nuclear option, but 1. if wasn't something like this. 2. They had the political backing of the electorate. and 3. If I remember it was mostly the judges that the dems wouldn't even give an up or down vote.
When the Repubs come into office, they can just have a majority to take it out.
Obama is misreading his election victory if he thinks this is what the majority of Americans want, or a majority of what his voters wanted.

There's no public option in the Senate bill.

Now this may be true but I am not sure we want our leaders governing based on public opinion. Republican or Democrat..using your logic and comparing to the Iraq war Bush should have listened to the polls and pulled out of Iraq... because after all that's what the American people wanted.
