    What about Hayden and Grayden?
TBH when I was making that post I went through the whole alphabet in my head for names with the first letter added to aiden/ayden and I thought Grayden sounded to ridiculous. As for Hayden, I guess I'm a little biased cause I've known multiple Haydens so it doesn't sound as bad

Gabriel is certainly not too far from Gabrielle so maybe that's where you get it from.

Anden they bought a ty house. Their dog is named Atlas and I wasn't sure which name was the dogs and which was the kids. The lady was also pregnant, they are probably going to name their next kid some gay like Cayden.

Plus, the nickname "Gabe" is pretty bad ass. You gotta admit.
yeah Gabe is a cool name. but then he could be called gay b
    or gay bro (Gabriel) :/

If I had a son I'd probably name him Tomas.

No I know, I'm aware of the potential "gay" references but kids can turn probably the majority of names into something re ed like that.

I have a very common (popular) name, and I hate it. Whenever I went to school, work etc. there were at least 3-4 other guys in the room with the same name. That's why I probably won't name my kids Ethan or Jack, even though I like those names. They're a bit too common.

At the other extreme, you don't want a ridiculous 'unique' name no one has ever heard of or can spell, or that you would be embarrassed to tell someone. Cayden, for example.

Try to find a name that the kid will never be ashamed of, that is a little less common, but that no one will ever do a double-take upon hearing. Walter (Walt), Thomas, Doug, Samuel (Sam).

Picking a name is just hard sometimes - I'd just advise you to go with something classic, not current. Of course, that's not always easy either. We ran into this problem with my second son. Named the boy after my grandfather - a strong, masculine name uncommon in my grandfather's time, but we didn't pay attention to current baby-naming trends when we picked it. Turns out that now it's very popular for both boys and girls. Wherever my poor son goes he ends up next to another kid (male or female) with the same name and we're derided for having picked something "trendy"

We're naming our son Brent Reinhold. After his grandathers.

If we were to have a girl, it would be Evelynn Rose.

    Flame away.

First and foremost, congrats on the baby- best wishes on a safe (and brief) delivery.

With respect to Cayden, I get being drawn to a unique name's meaning, but at the same time Heiney might mean valiant hero in Sanskrit; it doesn't mean I'm going to name my kid that.

Generally, I'd prefer that my children stand out for the quality and uniqueness of character that comes from the virtues we pass on to them, not from the names we give them.

True story - when I was growing up in San Antonio the Korean lady who cut my hair named her first son Edward. They could't decide on a name for their second son so his legal name was Another Edward - and the parents actually called him Another - no nickname or abbreviation. I'm pretty sure he had it changed once he was 18.

A name is a name...There has been plenty of trashy people with 'old school' names like Lindsay, Charlie, and Tom that it really comes down to the individual and they're upbringing. Even then it really a roll of the dice how a name becomes associated with certain societal aspects.

This is a good point. My sister and her boyfriend gave their child a name meaning "battle cry".

The boy's name is Rocco. ROCCO.

I remember when I started working at my first job, we had an middle aged delivery man whose name was John Wayne Dalmer...People used to marvel at his name and I asked him if he went by another name and he said no. I mean, it was interesting to say the least. He probably was teased by the commonality of the names with a movie star and two serial killers that he grew accustomed to it.

*Though Dahmer was the name of the serial killer, not Dalmer...

In order to compromise and keep the peace with my children's father, I had to come up with something traditionally Scottish. When I was pregnant with my son, he was dead-set on Angus, and I wasn't having any of that . WTF? Especially considering what their last name is. So I named him Iain, the Scottish equivalent of John. Which my son hates because everyone spells it wrong or can't figure out how to say it. Apparently, there are a lot of illiterate teachers out there. Is it really that difficult?

My daughter's name is Caitlin, which is a name I'd loved since I was young.

I went through every insult I could think of to rhyme with their names, and I think I did a pretty good job.

Names with meanings don't mean ....unless you're native american. Even then, the person makes the name, not the other way around.

I don't care for trendy names, I prefer classic names.

Our son's name was Gabriel. I loved loved loved that name. I had a pang when he died that was specific to not being able to use that name, because it was my favorite for years. I won't use the girl name we'd planned if he was a girl now either - Gwendolyn.

Right now, we really like Frederick, Oscar and Oliver. Oliver had been up there recently, but less so now. (and Vivienne for a girl - French spelling b/c of SFIE's French last name)

Owen is one of that type - classic name that became popular briefly and is fading back again.

Someone (Kori?) mentioned Grayden - I love that name. That and Grayson. And Emerson. And Everett. But they are not on our list - just names I personally like. Can be a bit feminine, I fear.
