My husband and I are expecting our second son any day now and have yet to decide on a name. Thus far, the only name we have in mind is Cayden.

What do you think, especially the men out there?

Cayden sounds white as and gay as .

I used to buy those baby name books, but with the internet you can just use that.

If you name the kid Cayden, I hope your husband is huge/strong and passes on those genes. The kid will be in fights every week all the way through HS.

Cayden rhymes with Gayden the Maiden.

Now imagine kids and teenagers teasing him. Those kids will be relentless and your kid might turn Columbine all because you gave him a stupid name like Cayden which sounds a lot like Cadence which is a girl's name.

Cayden isn't particularly ugly, it's just the opposite of masculine..which is fine but it's borderline girly. I get the feeling that a lot of parents give similar names to boys because they may be too concentrated envisioning their son as only a baby, even though whether you like it or not Cayden will also have to grow up and be a man one day.

It's funny that all the guys don't like Cayden. It's a popular name right now along with Aiden, Brayden, Jayden...

Anyway, it's hard for me to give advice on baby names without hearing the middle name (or last name).

Are you looking for a classic name or something trendy? Do you want a name that can be nicknamed?

    And congrats!

The worst names are the ones that are spelled all phonetically: Jaxon, Aleasha, Kacee, etc. That 's trashy.

    Cayden is lame as .

Just name your kid something extremely normal. Will, Tom, Sam, Nate. Something that can be shortened into one casual syllable and sounds professional in full (William, Thomas, Samuel, Nathan). Make sure the last letter/sound of the first name isn't the same as the first letter of your last name. That is all.

I say if you wanna keep the name Cayden, keep it as a middle name. If the kid wants to use it as name he goes by, then so be it but if he doesn't particularly like it, then he at least has a choice.

Aren't names like Jacob and Edward up as well because of movies like Twilight? Just because it's popular doesn't mean that guys had any input imo.

    Cayden is really gay.

Almost as ed up as naming him Quimby, Trevor or Jonah.

    You asked for opinions so here goes;

stop trying to invent something trendy and/or create a new name by combining two other gay names.

It is like painting your house in the current trendy color and a year or two later wondering...``what the was I thinking?''

Give him a name that will always be cool.

A guys name that he won't ever have to apologize for.

Something traditional and masculine and a winners name.

Cayden is okay, but as Kori pointed out, very trendy. In a few years he'll be in a classroom with 3 other Caydens, all spelled in "unique" ways.

I personally prefer more classic names like Mark, James, or David. They are very masculine and are the more unique names these days. I promise you won't find 2 Marks in any elementary classroom right now

    Congrats

Well, to be frank, there must be some trend of men losing the debate to the wife and allowing such names. And/or women are seeing their baby strictly what it will be for its first 2 years of life...and not the big picture. There's no other explanation, I highly doubt any of these names would get over a 20% approval rating of all men in the country.

We aren't planning on kids yet, but the wife insists that any son would be named Derrian. I insist on Thomas Brady DiCaprio.

My wife and I just had a baby 12 weeks ago and named him Dylan. We also liked Caleb, Jack(son), Lane, Parker and Reid. You got any middle names in mind, because that can make a difference?

The one thing I always thought of was...when this kid goes out for his first job interview, is the person going to take him seriously with a name like...

Gotta be thinking years ahead, not days ahead. If that helps...

It's biblical...but yeah, it was probably the farthest "out there" name we had.

The Bloggess just did a bit about parents giving their kids awful names, and while Cayden is definitely not as bad as ANY of these, I agree with Kori that it's a pretty trendy name. My parents gave me a first name equivalent to today's Madison or Isabel ("But we didn't KNOW anyone with the name Jessica in the 80s!" "Bull ."), and a middle name that - while super traditional - is NOT one that any kid would want to own up to. Now I really like my middle name after growing into it, and use my full name on my resume, but HOLY CRAP there were at times FOUR other Jessicas in my classes growing up. My teachers called me Miss Jones until college, because JONES was less common than my first name.

While Cayden isn't on the SSA's top baby names list YET, if you're considering another name that's less trendy (and less unisex), it wouldn't be a bad idea.

2009's list had some solid classic names on it - 2010 went trendy (except for Jack).
