f u jerry. I hope he never sets foot on this campus again
yes i'm pissed.
I honestly don't know the specific rule on that as you don't see a scenario like this very often. I do know for sure that I feel sorry for the 2011 DBs. It may very well be Mack Brown's call as he could give them the opportunity to back out of their LOI if the recruits wanted to do so. I'll get back to you if I find something.

S LaDarrell McNeil's HC just confirmed that he will be in Austin tomorrow even though Jerry Gray has left the program. A McNeil commitment would be an excellent start to 2012 DB recruiting.
LB Peter Jinkens of Dallas Skyline has cancelled his visit to Austin tomorrow.
ATH Orlando Thomas of Copperas Cove will be on campus today. I think Texas is looking at him as a DB. He may be one of the surprise commitments that we see every year.

Here's a list of candidates to replace Jerry Gray that have ties to Mack, the program, or Diaz:
Tommy Thigpen Auburn defensive back coach
Willie Mack Garza Southern Cal defensive back coach
Duane Akina Arizona defensive back coach
Vance Bedford Louisville defensive coordinator
Melvin Smith Mississippi State defensive back coach
Van Malone Tulsa defensive back coach
Steve Brown - Kentucky defensive coordinator
- Malone would jog to Austin from Tulsa if Coach Brown asked him to. He has experience coaching in the Big 12 (A&M) and an extensive history recruiting the state.
- Bedford calls the plays at Louisville and may be the toughest of this group to pry from his current position.
- Garza is considered a plus-recruiter. Only blemish is that he was charged with DWI in 2003 while an assistant at TCU.
- Malone and Garza played at Texas the same time as Texas assistant coach Oscar Giles.
The other candidates:
- Smith lobbied for the position hard when it was open a month ago, and there is a recent tie with Diaz. He also has experience coaching in the state (at A&M).
- Thigpen played for Mack Brown at North Carolina, has big conference experience and is considered a very good recruiter.
- Brown is a former Houston Oiler who is currently the DC at Kentucky. Brown and Diaz are familiar with one another.
- Could Akina really return to the 40 Acres after a months absence? Stranger things have happened. Akina and Mack parted on good terms.
DT Malcom Brown of Brenham was a no-show today in Austin. Kind of makes you wonder how long he'll take before committing to the Aggies. Good news is LB Tim Cole made it to campus.
Might as well just cut Brown loose all together and focus on Cole. The fact Cole came means there's a small chance to get him on board without Brown. I wonder if Brown called or just flat no showed. I think he'll be a great player for aggie but that's very disrespectful and immature to just no show. Hopefully that's an indicator that he'll try to rob someone on the street and get arrested for armed robbery after signing his aggie LOI.
4th commitment in: Copperas Cove ATH Orlando Thomas has committed.
Yes.
Here's a list of the offers and attendees as far as I can confirm now, keep in mind Gray has an offer even though it hasn't been confirmed yet:

OT Kennedy Estelle Pearland Dawson OFFERED
OT Michael Starts Waco La Vega OFFERED
OG Curtis Riser DeSoto OFFERED
OG Ralphael Green - San Antonio Sam Houston

DT Alex Norman Dallas Bishop Dunne - committed (visited Saturday)
DT Javonte Magee - San Antonio Sam Houston OFFERED

LB Alex De La Torre Denton Ryan - committed (visited Saturday)
DB Nick Coleman - San Antonio East Central
DB LaDarrell McNeil - Dallas A. Maceo Smith
ATH Damian Lowry - Dallas A. Maceo Smith
ATH Orlando Thomas - Copperas Cove COMMITTED
Yes, he did and he was officially offered. Other than ATH Orlando Thomas of Copperas Cove committing, it's been a very slow day. I don't think things have completely wrapped up yet, so we may see one or two more commitments later this evening.
OG Curtis Riser of DeSoto is officially #5. That's one of the big ones we've been waiting on. Great news!
Curtis is a great pickup. Orlando seems like kind of a stretch. Possibly only 3 star material.
Well, 1st junior day passed with two commits on the day and 5 for the beginning of the recruiting cycle. Much different feel than last year, the staff is going to have to work extra hard for this class. Hopefully the diligence in evaluation pays off after having such horrible player evaluation in the 07-09 classes, especially in offensive skill positions.
I need a cayleb jones and johnathan gray commitment to be satisfied for junior day.
I wasn't expecting as much action as last year on junior day, but I expected more than this. Hopefully a couple of guys commit later in the week. Kind of a downer. I'm a little worried about this class right now.
This is a good thing. They need to stop offering juniors. It's a ing fundamental problem. Unless it's Gray.
The 'Stache looks to be back!

Unreal. Never understood why he left in the first place
Apparenty he was offered the Co-DC tag to go with the DB coach by Stoops and he saw that as a way to help himself get to a HC gig with Hawaii. After Akina leaves Stoops, being a Stoops after all, rescended the Co-DC tag and screwed Akina. Akina wanted to come back but Mack had already told Gray the gig was his. Now a month later Gray bolts, Mack talks to Akina, and Akina gets some payback on Stoops. It's like a damn soap opera.

*LB Peter Jinkens of Dallas Skyline and RB Trey Williams of Spring DeKaney have re-scheduled their visits and will be in Austin for the second Junior Day on Saturday, February 26th.
*OL Andrus Peat of Corona Del Sol in Tempe, AZ stated last night that he probably won't make it to Austin for the second Junior Day, but is planning on calling Mack Brown at some point this week to set up an unofficial visit to campus.
*I wanted to make it clear that LB Tim Cole of Brenham did receive an offer on Sunday. There was some confusion about that for a while. There's still no confirmation on whether or not S LaDarrell McNeil did, though. He's been very quiet since his visit.
