Picking between Baylor and A&M.
And the plot thickens. A lot of people are going to look at Cottrell's 3 stars and not like this, but he's a true edge guy. I'm fine with this development.
It stands to reason if the Texas coaches know about Cottrell, they definitely know about Mike Mitc .
Picking between Baylor and A&M.
BU Spur, what position does Baylor like Polo at?
Been doing some reading and it sounds as if Texas and Thomas Johnson may get their disagreements worked back out. Anybody know any truth to this? If I count correctly, we still have 3-4 schollies to give out and with that, I wouldn't mind:
DGB
Daje
Santos
and "Way Out of Left Field Mystery Recruit" (Thomas Johnson?)
Better yet, scratch that and screw Johnson, give me:
DGB
Daje
Santos
"Mystery Recruit" other than Thomas Johnson...
UTHorns-
I haven't seen anything on TJ yet talking about that. Do you have a link? Hook 'Em 24/7 mentioned this morning that the staff was at Dallas Skyline yesterday and they didn't request to meet with him.
Update on DE Bryce Cottrell...despite being committed to Oregon for about six months, he and his family are definitely considering the offer. It's similar to ATH Daje Johnson in the sense that he may have to go back on his word with one school, but he'd be making the right decision for himself. It's an unconfirmed rumor at this point but Cottrell's girlfriend may be headed to Texas on a soccer scholarship. It's something UT has working in their favor if true.
TJ is a bad MF'er. Maybe after visiting A&M he genuinely felt like Texas was a better school for him. I would hope that they could possibly mend that relationship. It seemed to be nothing more than a lack of communication. I'd hate to miss out on a potential star for something that can be easily corrected. As far as the two scenario's, I love both because we get DGB in both! Lol. But I'd take the first scenario because other than a few (probably unobtainable) remaining recruits there isn't any guys as good as TJ. The name talked about as the mystery recruit has been rumored to be Bryce Cottrell. I'm not saying Bryce won't be a productive player eventually but TJ is clearly the better prospect right now.
More quotes from 2013 OL/DL Jake Raulerson on his visit to UT last weekend, per Hook 'Em 24/7:
“It was good. I mean, it was very good,” Raulerson said. “It was a very good trip for me and my family.”
“I talked with Coach (Oscar) Giles and Coach Diaz and in talking with Coach Harsin it sounds like they could use me at tight end depending on what packages they're using as basically another lineman,” Raulerson said. “Basically, they want me to play wherever I can come in an make an impact early.”
“Coach Searels talked to me about playing offensive line, but the main thing he told me was they'd just like to get me there and then see how my body develops,” Raulerson said.
“I had a lot of fun being around Coach Brown,” Raulerson said. “I had breakfast with he and (Bill Powers) the President of the University and I had a great weekend. It's been fun to get to know him because he's an amazing coach and an amazing person.”
“They were all really cool guys,” Raulerson said. “I already knew Johnathan Gray and Kennedy Estelle and some of the other guys. Cayleb Jones was around a lot. Alex De La Torre and Connor Brewer were both around quite a bit. Those guys are group of really good people.”
“This time right now is about the 2012 class and this the time for those guys to enjoy things and have all eyes on them,” Raulerson said. “When signing day passes, we'll see what happens from there.”
Sorry I didn't clarify. DE Bryce Cottrell is the "mystery recruit" in question.

Big day for Texas as they visit WR Dorial Green-Beckham in Springfield. DGB told a local news station that he will make a National Signing Day decision to be broadcast on ESPNU shortly after 9 a.m. Countdown has reached one week.

The more I read and hear on Cottrell, the more I like him. There could possibly be some bloodlines there, and he might not be done growing. I'll take a poor man's Jackson Jeffcoat this late in the game.
I really like James White. His junior film is every bit as explosive as Keith Ford's heralded sop re film. He won't test as well as Ford, but I like White's frame and upside better. White strikes me as a raw project. Exactly what Texas is looking for with the 2013 back looking up at Brown, Bergeron and Gray.
I also think White would be more receptive to Texas' sales pitch than Ford. Texas needs to make a good evaluation with the 2013 back. Yes the depth chart is crowded right now, but Bergeron and Brown will be juniors by the time the 2013 backs get to campus.
Per Hook 'Em 24/7, Mack and Diaz will be in Van today to do a school and in-home visit with LB Dalton Santos. They're also saying Texas will NOT be in Springfield today to see DGB which contradicts other reports. Just have to wait and see.
Burton went mysterious with the DGB visit. Basically said Mack will make an in home visit with DGB, but they don't want to give away the timing.
The only other day DGB has available is tomorrow. Mystery solved Hook Em 247.
Is he set to visit this weekend?
Lol.. They're going far with this "Mystery" stuff!
To my knowledge nothing is set yet with Cottrell. As of last night, Cottrell and his family were thinking things over.
24/7 made a good point that DGB almost has to visit Mizzou this weekend from a policitical angle because his father is a high school football coach in that state, but I wonder if that visit is now up in the air since Texas is willing to change their plans. I'm pretty sure Arkansas is in town tomorrow night so that may not be an option. Or is Petrino now coming on Friday? Should be fun to watch.
It's not a good point, it's a great point. Coach Beckham needs to have a good relationship with Mizzou and their staff. Mizzou is going to be interested in Beckham's 5 star players of course, but a good relationship gets them to take his 2 star players.
I believe DGB's official visit to Mizzou would begin on Friday evening if it were to happen as expected.
DGB's decision will be on ESPN at 9am on February 1st:

It's not official yet but the staff is expecting DE Bryce Cottrell to visit campus this weekend along with ATH Daje Johnson and LB Dalton Santos.
something about high school students either making themselves available or being promoted for spectacles like this bothers me. Society of the spectacle indeed.
Looks like Hobbs didn't get offer after all.

Texas will not offer TE Hobbs
January, 25, 2012 Jan 25, 1:38PM CT
The Longhorns will not offer tight end Vincent Hobbs (Mesquite, Texas/Horn), according to his head coach.
Rodney Webb told HornsNation on Wednesday that Hobbs did not get an offer from the Longhorns after talking with Texas tight ends coach Bruce Chambers.
"They got another commitment," Webb said. The coach did not know who the commitment was.
You have to think the commitment is Daje Johnson.
