Yup neal on d has been hard to watch but spurs need that instant offense off the bench
The team as a whole did a better job of rotating. Miller was just locked and loaded.

Neal had the game of his life and it couldn't have come at a better time. I gladly eat crow. I hope to God this awakens him from within and he starts shooting like this every game, although it's a long shot. Just one of those magical games. Happy for him too, he's been getting a lot of lately. Now if Matt freakin Bonner could stop sucking some serious ass that'd be lovely.
actually i take that back... was drunk and too excited after the game.. 1 good game out of like 20 games? No one doubts he's a great shooter. I'll come back after games 4 and 5 and see.
lol, this is just like after neal made that buzzer beater against memphis, we all loved him but after awhile we just go back to criticizing him and cringe when he has the ball. still neal proved me wrong tonight. i cringed for the most part as usual but guy earned my respect. at least for one night....or two.
Him playing well is huge considering Manu's inability to hit any jump shots or 3's anymore. Really hope he keeps it up.
YEP! MANU can't hit a thing! SO NEAL stepping up is HUGE!!!!!!!!!! HUGE!
I never doubted Neal... Okay I did and I cringed every time he plays PG. As long as he doesn't keep the ball too long and just catch and shoot it's fine. It's when he's trapped or forced to create for others where he gets in trouble. Now what do we do with Bon Bon?
I am SOOO sorry Gary. I even got used to calling you "Gary Nul" ("Gary Awful" in French). This game alone is worth every bad shot you've ever taken.
I must admit....I was also putting Neal down during and after Game 2. But damn, a night like tonight shows exactly why Pop has been putting him out there so much. That was a brilliant shooting display that both he and Green put on tonight. Absolutely amazing...![]()
why you americans don't know how to support players even when they're ? of course you'll talk about his mistakes, terrible shooting form, turnovers etc but all your feelings and thoguhts are changing game by game.
I was upset at Neal the first 2 games, but it was because he wouldn't shoot the ball. Constant pump fakes and ill-advised passes, when he could just take an open shot.
He was trying to be a point guard the first two games. He finally got back to what he's supposed to do. Shoot the ball. In game two he was trying way to hard to spell tony and take up his play-maker minutes. He forgot we got Ginobilli in that unit to take care of that. His job is 'quick-offense.' Always has been when Pop has ever referenced him. There was an interview with Tony P, where he said he had told Neal this would be his series to shine. Neal probably took that the wrong way, and forced himself to step out of his comfort zone.
Neal is a shooter. A scorer. Going back to the basics obviously helped his confidence, and let him settle back into his prominent role. Couldn't have came at a better time.
Props to all of you who doubted him to give him praise when its due. TBH we all know he's got it when everything is in the balance. Here is to hoping he and green can sustain some of this shooting and make it a track meet. Also to neal not giving up a 3's after he knocks 1 down lol
Too late. He gonna get paid if he has even one more game even close to this.
After he hit that ridiculous 28 footer, the Spurs got the ball back and Neal was bringing it up the floor. I turned to the girl next to me and said "he's going to jack up another one". He brought the ball up the right side, used a little Splitter brush pick to get to the top of the circle, then, nothing but net.
I still didn't care for Neal's shot selection and defense (he left Miller open again in at least one occasion). But at least Pop always had a point guard out there with him and Manu (Cojo &Tony). Good adjustment by Pop. This at least somewhat negated one of Neal's weaknesses and also likely took pressure off Manu to handle the ball, which was such a big problem in game 2. The heat playing small with shooter based linwups allows the spurs to do this. Again, great adjustment by Pop.
I didn't think he had it in him. He didn't look capable of this kind of game anymore.
Awesome big-balls step-up game.
You're a piece of . Stop posting your takes and your cliffdiving and your . You are .
then why does he keep playing Bonner?
after game two, I said I didn't mind Gary Neal playing, but I hated him playing with Bonner out there. His bad defense is not always his fault. Sure he has some lapses, but he's playing pops scheme with HIS athletic ability, not leonards, so he looks out of positions because that's the only way HE can do it.
That said, he has always had the clutchness. Props to him for showing up on the biggest stage.
Neal's jumping bail out pass to Green in the corner where he ended up falling on his keister also illustrates why Neal's job should be strictly catch and shoot. I'll give him props for doing this well last night. He also has a real nice midrange game as he showed. When he gets into trouble is when he is in at point guard trying to play hero ball. Hopefully going forward we will see a lot more Cory Jo in the spurs 2nd unit handling the ball.
I guess this is a benefit to completely giving up on players, when they simply do what they're capable of, you get to feel all shocked/surprised/happy/ecstatic. Which is fun. I, for one, never gave up on Neal (or Green for that matter), never didn't want him on the court, and wasn't at all surprised that he had the great game he did tonight. Of course, I'd argue that my approach is more epistemically virtuous, if you'll forgive the use of a technical term in this informal context, and it didn't decrease the immense enjoyment I felt as he hit shot after shot one ing iota. Just different kinds of fandom I guess; probably comes down to differences in personality.
Same player as he has always been.
But he hit his shots tonight.
And we got the same bipolar fans who rise and fall just like the streaky player they hate/love.
If he stays on Miller every game he will be OK on D. Allen is a little tougher. He can't handle Chalmers, Wade or Cole without help.
Not sure why anyone owes the man an apology. Given the level of his defense, this is what he has to do. Gary's defense is finally less important when he scores 25 points. If he keeps going summer league on the Heat, I won't worry about him leaving Mike Miller open over and over and over and over again.
Neal was a cold blooded assassin last night. Ice water baby. NEAL WITH IT!!
