So NO basically renders Ryan Anderson useless and with that being the case, why not trade him last year for ASIK instead of giving up your pick?
Potentially a really bad trade for NO and a very good trade for HOU no matter what IMO. Even with a very limited role with Asik, HOU was a playoff team that still has a high ceiling if they can fine tune things. This helps them do that.

Well, yeah. That Holliday trade was horrible. Two lottery picks for an overrated player? But the Pels are pretty much doubling-down on their current roster, which in my opinion, has plenty of flaws outside their bigs. If they can move a wing for some good role-players, they can make some noise. But if they give up three lotto picks in a row, that would be bonkers.
Demps appears to be a pretty awful GM. He tried making that awful CP3 deal, made the Jrue deal, kept Gordon and now this. He may be able to right the ship, but he puts himself in terrible positions and appears to be of the mindset that just getting "talent" is all that matters with little emphasis placed on building through the draft.
Exactly my observation. He seems to be very much the black sheep of the Pop-Buford family.
Ryan Anderson is more valuable than the pick and he will get plenty of playing of time. Asik is only getting minutes against teams with bigger centers.

I agree with this overall, but I also wonder how much ownership is behind this too. Benson is 85 and maybe the people around him are trying to build a winner as quickly as people.
But honestly, I think this is Demps mostly. He doesn't really seem to be a guy who looks at advanced metrics when evaluating people whether its resigning Gordon, trading for Holiday, signing Tyreke, drafting Rivers. The Anderson signing was very good, but otherwise I'm not impressed.
It really depends on what the protection is. No one really knows yet and I also think the Pelicans have to move someone to get Asik.
When I meant bigger centers, I meant guys like bigger scoring centers who will give Davis trouble due to his developing size. Most games, the Pelicans will get away with having Davis and Anderson finish games, but against teams like Houston and Memphis, Asik will be a big help.

Again, it's a poor move by the Rockets if the trade is official. Trading for Melo/Love/James/Bosh using contracts is a far better outcome for Houston than acquiring them by using cap space.
Though even their name gets stuck in one's throat & then even further down in the craw.
I think it's funny they trade Noel and everyone says it's a good move since he couldn't play next to Davis, but now Asik is a great fit when he has every current shortcoming of Noel without any of the upside?

Sounds familiar...I really like the Asik-Davis duo. Davis can be very consistent with mid range jumpers ala TD.
But dont get to comfortable Davis...you know you are coming to the Spurs next season!!!

If you do a sign n trade for Carmelo, you have to give up some core players AND picks because that other team is likely rebuilding. And on the other side, the team trading with Houston would want to send bad contracts back along with Carmelo or whoever, and that screws flexibility. As long as you have picks, you can clear cap space.
Yes it would be better to have the MLE and BLE, but this is not a bad trade at all.
If the Rockets can agree to a sign-and-trade with New York for Melo, they'd be able to trade "just" Lin and Asik and give Anthony a max contract. They'd need to give a few sweeteners, but they'll have to do that anyway in order to move Lin. Trading gives the Rockets the full use of the MLE, and it would allow them to keep Beverly and Parsons without worrying about cap holds. However, I don't think maxing out three players would be sustainable in the long run, especially if Parsons makes good money and the team uses the MLE to add the necessary pieces.
