We're paying for past sins (AKA the Nash trade, most notably). Once the debts (tanking for lotto picks because we traded picks away) are paid, our trips to the lottery will cease. We have one more piece (Ben Simmons, hopefully) to add then we'll go back to building a competent roster.
The new CBA forced our hands. The haters of the Lakers are laughing it up right now, but I guarantee you the owners are not. We haven't given out food stamps in the form of luxury taxes in a few years now.
If we play our cards right, not only will we have one of the youngest rosters, we'll also have one of the lowest payrolls too as evidenced by our ~$66M in cap space we can spend starting this summer.
Some Laker Fans may disagree, but I am good with where we are. This summer is critical for our future. So we bet not it up.![]()
How embarrassing would it be to be fired by your kid sister? Straight out of Godfather II with Michael and Fredo...
Bringing back Phil would be a good step though.
