Sacto is a much better squad than we all saw yesterday and everybody here knows that. SA shot the ball better than any of us could have imagined early on and they got a very active Manu and Tony going early. Playoffs are about adjustments as we all know and you can bet the farm that Brad Miller and Ron Artest are going to be head hunting in game two. There will be some hard fouls in the paint from Sacto and the Spurs must keep moving the ball and pushing the pace. Depth is on the Spurs side so if they continue to shoot the ball well and board then they will be fine.

thats nice but we have nothing to do with those team.
    Right. They were champions.
were better then all those teams were.
You have a long way to go, and no one to take you there.
even pop said were one of the best teams in the league and he doesnt think were in 8 seed.
Pop will ALWAYS talk up the opponent. You're probably use to Phil Jakass.
denver was just hot last year and that was it.
You ARE Denver for this year, the streaking missle brought to a halt.
this kings team is for real although you couldnt tell when they got hammered like they did last night.
I'll let that stand on it's own merits

Couldn't agree with you more SAGambler. I just wish game 2 was tomorrow. It will be a better game. And even though our boys had a great game, there is still room for improvement. I just hope SAC shows up this time.
Man, me too. I probably won't be able to eat or sleep between now and Tuesday. It wrong to make us wait that long.. Wrong I tell ya...

Like that wasn't already happening in game 1. You can't beat the Spurs by beating them up (Just ask Seattle last year), you must play better basketball.

I hadn't realized quite how bad Bibby was on defense. If he can't at least slow Tony down before he slices into the lane, my prediction of Spurs in 5 will be wrong: it will be a sweep. Tony will break them down and either score or dish, because they don't have a shotblocker.

Statistics say that the team that wins game one, will win the series 79% of the time. Now that has held true over a long period of time.

So right now the Kings have a 21% chance of winning the series. If they go down again on Tuesday, there chance drop to slim and none and slim's on his way outta town.
That's the only thing I really hate about the first weekend of the playoffs, hearing that stat over and over again. It's so completely meaningless, and I bet if you looked at any specific game of the series you would get a similar percentage (except game 7, the winner of that wins the series 100% of the time )

If this is to be taken seriously, then you're telling me in 2003 and 2005, the Spurs only had 21% chances each of those years to win their first round series, after dropping the first game? Yeah right, maybe I can find someone who'll give me 4-1 odds on the Pistons if by some miracle they lose the first game today.

The bottom line is that the better team always wins 7-game series, and the correct way to intrepret this stat is that the better team wins the first game of the series 79% of the time.

    1) betting odds have little to nothing to do with probability, and everything to do with the whims of the betting sheep. Bookmakers have to keep their bets in balance.
    2) the fact that SA did it is a credit to their championship cailbur. They WERE that one team in 5 that could do it, three times in two championship runs.

We were blown away by the Spurs in the first 2 games last year (15, 21) and then blew them away the next 2 games (17, 31). The rest of the series was compe ive so give it at least 3 games (to see if you'll be compe ive, not to see if you'll win ).

If it's any consolation I picked the Spurs to win 93-91 and lost $990,000 vbookie

    1) You're probably right, I shouldn't bring betting odds into this, I don't even gamble. I just think it would be ridiculous to claim the Pistons only have a 21% chance of winning the series if they lose the game today.
    2) That's pretty much my point, they won those series, not because they beat the odds but because they were a really good, championship calibur team.

It seems to me, the way people present this stat they're saying winning game 1 gives you a great chance of being good enough to win the series, and I just think it goes the other way, that being good enough to win the series gives you a great chance of winning game 1, or any other game in the series. I'm not even convinced the stats would be that different for game 2.

Okay, maybe look at it like this. 79% of the time, the best team wins the first game of the series, and usually goes on to win the series. Certainly stats don't hold up every time, and case in point would be the Pistons to drop their first game, they would still be the favorites to win the series.

It's just another way of saying the same thing. That only 21% of the time, will the better team drop the first game.

Now as to dropping two. I don't care how good the team is, they have dug themselves a deep hole. Not only that, but now they are under tremendous pressure to win, and that makes it hard to do.

Let the Pistons drop the first two, and I'm taking odds on the other guys.

Yeah, ultimately they mean the same thing, it's just when it's presented one way (as it often is by the media) it implies some sense of causation, which is not necessarily present. Correlation doesn't imply causation.

Now as to dropping two. I don't care how good the team is, they have dug themselves a deep hole. Not only that, but now they are under tremendous pressure to win, and that makes it hard to do.

I didn't mean to imply that losing the first two games wouldn't be significant, I meant that the result of game 2, considered independent of the result of game 1, would probably have a very similar statistic associated with it, if anyone bothered with it. The winner of game 2 (considered independently from the winner of game 1) probably wins the series about 79% of the time as well.

Props for showing up after the loss.

It's only one game. There's a lot of basketball left.

But damn, that first half was pretty
41-15 in the second quarter. "Pretty" is one word for it.

The funny thing is, is that he just says the he does to get your goat, so to speak. He's a good dude...there are several other Spurs fans that I can't stand that are, IMO, 34,596,584,651,965,413^2 times worse than him because they happen to actually be serious.

I'm guessing that you don't appreciate his humor.
