Thanks everyone for all of the compliments and congratulations for my first tournament win last night.![]()
And Whitney played awesome last night. It was fun (even though Kris and LJ got out early and abandoned us![]()
).
Thanks everyone for all of the compliments and congratulations for my first tournament win last night.![]()
LJ won third at "The Coast" tonight. Congratulations on your orange ribbon.
The bronze medal, KINDA looks like gold....
Third doesn't count. I'd rather finish 11th and blame some bad beats for my demise.
Third is damn good in any field.
LJ must have played really well to get to 3rd. When Whitney and I left, he barely had any chips remaining and there were about 10 people still in.
I like playing at these barpoker tournaments. It's good practice ... and free.
No Bronze Ribbon Tonight
LJ won first place at the tournament at Martini Ranch.![]()

Yeah, good to finally get a W.
My final hand I had King-Queen. I hate that hand but I pushed all in.
Flop came out King, Queen, Queen. Turn was a Queen. River was a King.
Even I couldn't mess that one up![]()
Kori wins another 50 person tourney.
Props.

And I also got cussed out more than I think I've ever been cussed out in my life
Midway through the tournament, I am dealing - the blinds are 100/200. Four people call the guy in the big blind pre-flop, including me. I have Ace, 7 (or Ace, 9 I don't remember) Diamonds. The flop comes two more Diamonds, and an offsuit low card. The guy in the big blind goes all in (700 chips). A girl goes all in (2100 chips). Two guys fold. I saw screw it, I am going to have to double up soon because I can't go late into the tournament with only ~2500 chips.
I end up winning with an Ace high flush. She had 2 pair, which she had on the flop.
The girl goes ballistic. She calls me ing stupid, ing , and a variety of other things. Then she stays at the table (she's out) and stares me down for a few more hands. So I finally say, "What?" and she starts going off cussing me out, telling me that if I knew anything about poker I wouldn't call an all-in on a flush draw, blahblahblah. I laugh at her a few times and say, "Whatever. Sometimes you have to take risks if you want to win."
Anyway, she moves over to the bar and proceeds to cuss me out to about 10 people sitting there. She then sits at the bar and starts yelling down taunting me. (i.e. I folded a hand and she said, "What the ? Aren't you going to go all-in with a 4-3 off suit"). I keep laughing. This goes on for a long time -- nearly an hour. Finally I tell her to get over it. And she tells me, " you." Again I laugh. She says you, ing , and many more times before leaving.
Anyway, back to poker, I get to heads up against this guy who seemed to be bluffing a lot, but I couldn't read him at all. He has about 5 times as many chips as I do.
It took a while and there were some scary moments, but in the end. I win!
@ that girl though. I am trying to remember a time in my life when someone cussed me out that much. I don't think it exists.
wow... wasn't there security that could escort her out? or this isn't that kind of tournament?![]()
She was only mad because of the blinds structure.
If she knew anything about poker, she wouldn't have had to cuss at you from the bar. Some people are really sore losers.
Damn, I didn't realize angel was such a sore loser.
That was nothing.
The day the trade was announced...well, let's just say there was this little incident near the top of the tower at UT.
I don't even know how Kori won that tournament. She never had a dominating chip stack until she overtook the guy she was playing with one-on-one. Even then, he won about 4-5 hands in a row to draw even.
I told Kori I'm going to have to just video tape her one of these times to see how she plays. You don't keep winning 30, 40, 50+ man tournaments on accident.
At this tournament and with woai poker "expert" Dale Blasphame, people always say she plays stupid. But she probably for real wins 20% of the tournaments she is in. Whether home or commericial games.
I think Kori's rediculously high IQ comes into play here. I'm not sure exactly how, but you don't see too many great-dumb poker players. An example of how smart Kori is is she got a 171 on the LSAT, which is the test you take to enter law school. The top score is 180. 152 is considered moderately good. 160 is awesome. 171 will get you basically into anywhere you want to go.
I play similar to Kori but I can't win a soda can at a recycling station. I'll have to play heads up with her one-on-one to to find out where I fall off the wagon.
I pick one or two hands a tournament to "play stupid" AKA play risky. And when someone gets beat on one of the risky hands, they die about it. That's why I said to that girl last night, "Get over it. I wasn't playing on draws all night." There's always a point where I say okay, this is it because I need to get a decent amount of chips heading into the final table. At this tournament and with woai poker "expert" Dale Blasphame, people always say she plays stupid.
Last night I could have probably made it to the final table with 2500 chips, but I would have got killed by the 500/1000 blinds. So I had to risk it to build my chip stack.
Kris, I don't think I do anything that you don't do. I just think that come heads up time, I'm convinced that I can win even if I'm super short.
However, last night I was very lucky early. I flopped quad J's. You have to get a lot of luck and good cards to win a 50-person tournament.
Going all in with a semipossible flush draw is weak. Winning the hand is lucky. Especially pulling the Ace.
I would have said, , do what you want cause a true blue mack don't even front.
I wasn't all in - I would have had about 500 chips left if I lost. It was the time in the tournament to double up, or almost get out. You can't win a 50 man tournament without trying to double up.
And it wasn't semi-possible. It was possible because it happened.I had four diamonds after the flop and I had the Ace in my hand.
You didn't get eaten by sharks?
Aces have to come up once in awhile. Is it lucky that you catch them sometimes?
I haven't got pocket A's in the last 10 tournaments I've been in. Will I be lucky the next time I get them?
I very, very rarely get pocket Aces.
I saw Whitney get them twice in like 30 minutes once.
For some reason I get pocket Q's, K's and 7's a lot.
Congrats to both of yous
glad I keep donating to the best!
the lessons arent cheap, but will prove valuable in the end!
