Mavs: Daniels for Croshere, MJames agrees to terms

Just heard on local Dallas sport talk radio that Spurs are one of the teams (along with Dallas, Houston, Minny) vying for the services of Mike James.

It seems that James is seeking a 5-yr contract.

It's hard to say which team has the inside track at this point.

Dallas won't give him 5 years. They've offered 3 years so they might consider adding a 4th year as an option year. All offers being relatively equal, I'm sure Houston has the inside track on James.

I seriously doubt the Spurs are in the running. They might have made a phone call about him but that's probably as far as it got. They won't offer him 5 years and they certainly won't throw the entire MLE at him.

He can play either the 1 or the 2. Yeah, he likes to shoot (who doesn't?...see T.Parker), but remember he did average almost 6 assists/game on a Toronto team that needed him to be their #2 scorer for most of the year.

i was very impressed with his play for the pistons in the playoffs, but dudes crazy. id love it if he went to the mavs and ed with their chemistry

According to the Toronto Sun, reports indicate that Mike James is close to agreeing to terms with the Houston Rockets.

The Toronto Star reports James is scheduled to meet with representatives from the Dallas Mavericks, Houston and Minnesota Timberwolves in Las Vegas today.

I thought Houston let him go because he was crazy. If they are trying to get him back that must suggest that he's worth the trouble. Guys with lots of talent that bounce from team to team make me nervous, especially when they are looking to get paid.

Hadn't heard the story about him being crazy. Do you have any direct information on that? From some of his recent comments, I can see that being the case.

Well yeah, Galloway is another story all together , but I was talking about the ESPN Insider report where one Toronto newspaper says that James is about to sign with Houston and the other Toronto newspaper says that James is meeting with Houston, Dallas & Minny in Vegas today. Both those reports can't be right. Why would James meet with the other teams if he was gonna sign with Houston? Last minute effort to get more time and/or money out of Houston? Maybe?

If you're Houston and you want the guy, you want to sign him before he goes to meet with Minny. Therefore, if you're James's agent, you make arrangements to go there to lock the Houston deal up the way you want it.

Too much money for a 4th or 5th guard that's for sure. That's why the Mavs traded him for Croshere and his expiring contract.
