Being a passenger alone in that city is enough to give me road rage. I hate it. The last time I drove into Houston with Jess I pulled over right before we got to Katy so that she could drive in that crap. Its ing horrible. I imagine LA is much like Houston.
I drove through Houston a couple of months back during rush hour and I would say it is similar to LA traffic. But I did notice that they are expanding and building new highways to relieve the gridlock. Will have to visit after they finish all the construction.

As far as SA drivers are concerned, most drive fast. But there are those few slow drivers that don't move to the right when someone wants to pass them. That is my only complaint. Other than that, the driving in SA is much more relaxed. I feel like I'm driving through a retirement community when I'm on the 410.

As far as gridlock on the main streets, you have to get to know your hood. There are several ways to get around the traffic. You just have to know which streets to take. On Bandera, there are plenty of residential streets that will save you time if you know the route to take.

In LA, there aren't easy ways to get around the traffic. I've tried every conceivable route to save time from downtown to Santa Monica. You just have to bite the bullett and stay on 10. And when you talk about traffic in LA, you are talking about miles and miles and miles of gridlock.

i think half of houston's roads have been under construction my whole life (~30 years).

I have to say that, moving here from Houston, the traffic here is actually refreshing. and I'm talking about the to/from work traffic.
crazy, I know, but if you've ever driven in Houston, you'd understand.
Yeah, as much as I hate and complain about the traffic in SA, I have to remind myself sometimes that I used to drive downtown from the southwest side every morning during rush hour, and that very little is worse than that.

However, since Houston opened the Westpark Tollway, driving into Houston from SA has improved pretty dramatically. I'm not battling high blood pressure by the time I arrive at my parents' house anymore

haha I know I don't go 50 miles per hour... There is always a load of traffic on 410, but if you truly know San antonio, you know how to get around to avoid the traffic no matter what time of day it is....

Anyone notice how California people put "The" in front of there freeways..."the 405" while we here in the SA area just say 410 or 1604.

You know, you're right. As a CA transplant, I do say "the 5, the 405, the 91, etc.", but here I don't say 'the' in front of the freeway numbers.

    Freaky!

"The" is an easier way to say PARKING LOT!
Comparing SA traffic to any other major city is ridiculous. Once you hit Fontana the traffic is bumper to bumper in the L.A. area, that is why I avoid that place. My top 3 worst traffic cities:
    3. Houston
    2. Atlanta
    1. L.A.

I do it. I have tried to break the habit of doing it with San Antonio freeways, but I still say "the 10" and "the 410".

HAHA Kori...when some friends of mine moved back here after 10 years in San Diego It would annoy the Holy out of me when they would say "the 410" or "the 35". I finally told them we dont put "the" in front of our freeways..they looked at me like i was on crack for even noticing something like that

one gripe that I do have about San Antonio are the slow drivers that like to be on the fast lane and NOT move over. I'm pretty much ALWAYS on the fast lane, coming from Houston I'm used to going FAST. well over here, many time i have experienced drivers going about 60 (on 410E) in the fast lane. ok fine, but move your ass over when I get to you!!
    it's highly annoying...

    Hmmmmm

Maybe you should slow down considering the speed limit is 60mph, therefore, the people going 60 in the fast lane are right on the money.

    Slow down.

As a girl, you are already a bad enough driver.
No need to add speed to the list also.

What a bunch of bull girls are bad drivers. Our insurance is less than guys for a reason. Guys take more risks driving... but I know some bad male and female drivers. I hate when cars go slow in the fast lane as well... if a car wants to go the speed limit, that's what the middle lane is for.

I agree - that is annoying as - but they are actually doing the speedlimit.
The limit is 60MPH over on 410 east. I chalk it up to the hwy being so old over there, after they update (in 2012??) they should raise the limit.

I guess I'm just not used to it. it really is different here.
I know the speed limit on 410 is 60 but you can at LEAST go 65 if on the fast lane. people actually go under 60 sometimes, and it's pretty frustrating
when the lane is nice and clear or if other drivers are actually driving fast, I usually go about 70MPH
