hey everyone, longtime lurker here - i went to my first spurs game tonight and i couldn't have asked for a better one! i didn't care if i was the only spurs fan hollering in the vicinity (although my roommate kept calming me down because she didn't wanna get jumped after the game)! it felt awesome to stick it to those warriors fans, especially since i've been getting crap from them and lakers fans here in CA ever since i can remember.

    go spurs go!

I'm saying they shouldn't have passed it to him in the first place Einstein.

I'm at a loss here. I'm not saying Parker isn't great (he is). I'm not saying he isn't clutch (as he proved in this game alone scoring that acrobatic shot among others), he is. Free throw shooting is not his forte, however. I don't care if he's 300 times better than Michael Jordan. If he's not shooting well from the line, and you have 3 guys on the floor who shoot in the upper 80's on free throws, give it to the other guys. It's not an insult to Parker. I love Parker, he's awesome. It's very simple, basic statistical strategy.

THIS IS NOT A PERSONAL ATTACK ON PARKER. I FREAKING LOVE HIM, OK?!!!

Cool, let Manu Ginobili know that next time.

Even though Parker before that had just made 2 very clutch free throws.

Spurs were up by 5 with 19 secs. they weren't clutch fts. they could have taken a chance with anyone at that point. He missed them, I think, because he didn't give a crap at that point. I never seen anyone take two quicker ft attempts.

now if we're up by 2 or 3, I can somehow see the point, but I believe it was unavoidable in this situation without turning the ball over.

If that's from this year, then I haven't been watching enough regular season games. All I know is I remember a lot of times just from watching the games over the past seasons, where Tony has clanked a lot of FT's in close situations / and non close situations, which is why they always had to give the rock up to anyone but Manu , Fin and Barry.

I didn't know he was shooting 80 percent this year over last year's 71 so maybe he's improved since last year because I noticed Pop allowing Tony to get fouled to ice the game.
Bingo... That's what I was talking about, no more, no less... but there some fans here that make a big deal out of nothing! they must be new, and don't know who have been shooting our free throws in late game situations... or they're just blind Tony homers

Are Spurs fans even watching games anymore? Not sure why I have to point it out but when TP missed both free throws, it wasn't off of an inbounds play. It was after a GS miss, KT got the rebound and, IIRC, passed it to Manu who then passed it to TP. If you don't want TP having the ball in that situation, the blame goes to Manu for passing it to TP. But I'm not going to blame Manu in that situation because he's trying to burn off more time and TP had just hit two.

But yeah, whatever. The Spurs gut out a victory and we have Spurs fans arguing over two late free throws that didn't mean anything.

    Lame
Hindsight is 20/20. Tony made the two free throws when they inbounded the ball to him, therefore they should have inbounded the ball to him? They should play the percentages in that situation and pass it to Mason, Ginobili, or Finley.

I know what Manu was trying to do in that last situation; that one doesn't bother me as much. For crying out loud, I'm just saying when they inbound the ball in a tight game (in the future), and they know the player is going to be fouled, should they inbound to Mason, Ginobili, Finley, or Parker when Parker is having an off night at the line? Given the choice, any of the other 3. Parker would probably make them anyway, but play the percentages. Parker is still awesome. My Gosh.

Yeah, blind tony homers make up the 75% clutch free throw shooting

Whatever makes you guys cling to the weak arguement to begin with.

And the odds of anyone coming back from that are small, I understand; but they're still there. The Warriors especially can get streaky from 3. I'd rather play it safe and eliminate any possibility of a loss, as much as possible.

no, you guys are just nitpickers when it comes to Tony. If we're going to nitpick, when Manu is pushing it up the court and has an advantage, not getting the ball to Tony is a huge mistake. If Tony regularly does 1 on 5 breaks, what makes Manu think tony can't take one guy on the wing?

Yeah I don't understand it. It's not a big deal to say that some aren't used to seeing Tony ice games with FT's. I also remember the FT's he missed for France a year ago on more than one occasion. But people seem to go bonkers and get offended.

Let's just say I have held my breathe in the past at least, when Tony's been at the line during critical moments, the same as I still hold my breathe when we're holding serve and Manu's one of the five defenders, when we need a defensive play to seal the game. It comes from experience watching the games. It has nothing to do with hate or stats on paper.

they did eliminate the possibility by protecting the ball. Looking for a FT shooter when scrambling to save the ball was a riskier play. Give me Tony 10 out of 10 times in that situation

I agree with the point that the free throw pecking order should go Manu > Mason > Finley. Why Pop drew up a play for Parker to get the inbounds pass? Don't know. Manu was at the far three-point line with his hands on his knees. Perhaps Pop thought Manu was tired.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, the play when they were killing time is different, and more difficult, I understand. I don't really have much of a problem with that. I'm more concerned about inbounding it directly to a 75% free throw shooter who's having an off night at the line when there are 3 upper 80's guys also out there.

    ?

What does that have to do with the above game thread?

The Spurs have very very prime oppurtunity now to catch up with the Lakers and REALLY stretch out the division lead now with Chris Paul straining his groin.

The Hornets are gonna really really feel the pain of that one.

I remember though alot of people banking on that team being healthy AGAIN for a full 82 game season haha.

Can't improve unless you get chances.

I don't understand why its such a horriblething Parker gets a chance at it.

You guys are acting like they inbounded the ball to Bruce Bowen.
