Lol My kid is Dos of the years old. He is crazy into Hook for some reason.
I have a nephew who is 1-and-a-half, and the kid is just cuh-razy about pirates. He plays with pirate toys, does pirate dances, wears pirate costumes...one of his first words was even "pi-yate"

Not sure if he's seen Hook yet, but that should be right up his alley.

I believe this team with the right tweak to the roster, a clean bill of health, and a little good fortune can still get it done; it's a lot to ask, though..

There's absolutely no trade that could bring back equal value and give you a better shot at a le if he's capable of being anywhere close to the player he's been, but..

If you've come to the conclusion, as a front office, that you're just not going to get that Manu this year, do you pull the trigger on a deal that makes you a marginally better ball club; the proverbial Hail Mary?

Say, Manu could get you Thomas and Salmons...
Interesting. I was thinking about Salmons too. Thomas and Salmons for Manu works in the trade machine, and it is intriguing - Thomas is a headcase, but he's also a fine shotblocker and rebounder. Salmons is a true all-court swing who does a bit of everything, but he is also a player who probably needs the ball in his hands. The problem with those two is that neither of them seems to have a high ball IQ (Thomas is particularly slow), and that would kill them here.

It would definitely be a Hail Mary, but unless Manu shows a semblance of his former self by January, I'd probably do it... and the Bulls need a $10mil expiring to make a run at the big FAs. Interesting.

The other team that really wants expirings is NY, but they don't have much of anything we want, and certainly not Jared Jefferies or Eddy Curry!

We have enough talent to win it all. As long as we get a seed, we can still do it. Except for the lakers, we have the best advantage of out playing teams in series. We adjust better than anyother team. However Bonner cannot take the last shot! Ever!

but if that shot went in. . .

The Thomas rumors had me thinking, (the Spurs have been linked to him in the past..) and Salmons was someone I was hoping the Spurs could acquire last year. I figured the numbers were pretty close and considering they want to be a player next year in free-agency, Manu's expiring could tempt them. Plus, they'd be getting the best player in the trade and could sell it to that loyal fan base they're not just dumping salary and waiting 'til next year..

I'd like the fit of the players skill set-wise: Tyrus would be a of a compliment to Tim with his weakside shot-blocking and athleticism on the perimeter, that face-up shot he displayed in the Celtics series would also be nice compliment, and Salmons is just a really good well-rounded player that would be an upgrade over anyone not named Manu at the 2; maybe even 3..

My loyalty wouldn't allow me to pull the trigger unless it was a no-brainer, though; I don't envy the front office if they come to that conclusion..

Count me in Spurs have gone through rough stretches before and now are also going through a sloppy and unlucky stretch all concurrently. I also believe the team will solidify on the road and dramatically improve and still get a top 4 seed.

whatever has been said and speculated about Manu in the last weeks, one fact remains IMO: Manu is the only one who can lift this team from mediocrity to contender. his game is the x-faktor. I can't tell how good the odds are that we see the old Manu as often as we need him, we can just pray that it happens. so, I do like the idea of getting Slamons a lot and the idea of getting TT a little, but they will never be able to give the Spurs what Manu could, in other words they don't have the difference maker potential, we would sacrifice in Manu.
so, why do it. if the Spurs can't make it at least to the CF, I don't care if they go out in the 1st or 2nd round or what regular season record they get.

but this doesn't mean the Bulls and Salmons couldn't still be an interesting target. at the beginning of the season Salmons seemed to be a lock, after the departure of Gordon. not so much this year. Bulls are currently that bad, it seems as if they do it to run Vinny out of town. however, if they can't turn this, they will be out of the PO race in January and in this case they will for sure listen to offers for Salmons for expiring contracts (likely +pick). the Bulls will have about 16-18 million cap space, that's nice and maybe enough for a max contract, (depends on the player and final cap number), but this number lacks the security $ for a decreased cap. if they can get rid of Salmons contract the number increases to 22-24 million. looks much better for them.
Salmons for expirings + teaser is the only trade that makes sense for the Spurs when thinking about making the team better. might cost us the 2011 1st rounder, but I think that would be ok. (Mason+Finley+the 2011 1st rounder for Salmons + 2nd rounder would be the deal). something like this won't happen right now. would be a typical deadline deal IMO.

I have my doubts for this year, however if the team shapes up and gels I'm willing to believe in a championship with all the talent on this squad. Next year we could be beastly too, if it takes that long. No matter what, a Spurs fan I remain.
