Looks like Hobbs didn't get offer after all.

    --------------

Texas will not offer TE Hobbs

    January, 25, 2012 Jan 25, 1:38PM CT

The Longhorns will not offer tight end Vincent Hobbs (Mesquite, Texas/Horn), according to his head coach.

Rodney Webb told HornsNation on Wednesday that Hobbs did not get an offer from the Longhorns after talking with Texas tight ends coach Bruce Chambers.

"They got another commitment," Webb said. The coach did not know who the commitment was.
Feel a bit sorry for Hobbs. He was all but ready to commit and then three new names came into the mix bumping him down the list of priorities. Tough call for Chambers to make.

Another update on DE Bryce Cottrell...an Oregon staff member will be in Plano tonight to try and convince the family to not visit Texas. They may decide to pull his offer if he does, but luckily for him he has that UT offer in his back pocket if he's willing to chance the visit to Austin.

You have to think the commitment is Daje Johnson.
That'd be nice. Unless Santos confirmed his intentions with Mack today.

Rumor on OrangeBloods that a certain 2013 prospect will be offered on February 2nd (day after National Signing Day) and will commit to be the first member of the class. Raulerson is the easy answer, but just something to keep in mind.

Don't know what to make of this quite yet, but Bobby Petrino of Arkansas will not be visiting DGB in Springfield on Thursday. Other members of the staff are said to be there, however. Does this go along with the rumors of DGB's mother not liking Arkansas?

From what I understand, Petrino "ran into" DGB in San Antonio and that was counted as a contact. HC are only allowed one contact per year so it would be a recruiting violation if he did an in-home.

It would be nothing short of astonishing if Mrs. Beckham has such a low opinion of Petrino that the Arkansas staff is attempting to distance themselves from him in DGB's recruitment. It's their head coach we're talking about here.

There's plenty of negative recruiting ammunition that can be used against Petrino, especially his exit from the Atlanta Falcons. When push came to shove, Petrino wasn't a man and declined to face his players to tell them he had taken the Arkansas job.

Credit to CBS Sports. They have been all over the DGB news today. Hopefully every single one of the Rivals National Analysts were wrong in their predictions on DGB's college destination.

You're correct about that. However, take it a step further. The way I'm comprehending it is Petrino had in-person communication with DGB during a "quiet" or "dead" period which forbids all contact with recruits. Coaches aren't even allowed to call them during that timeframe, yet Petrino mistakenly "bumps into" DGB while in San Antonio. It's not a matter of Petrino using up his one visit because that happened, but that he wasn't supposed to make any form of contact at all and another school saw it happen. It went down at a time when it was completely illegal.

Best of luck to Hobbs. He seems to have been pretty mature throughout the situation, it must have been tough.

Yeah.. Thats tough for him. I know its especially sour because he visited and had a taste of being a Texas commit. But all the other prospects are better than him, and it doesnt help that RSJ is a good possibility next year.

Hook 'Em 24/7 reporting that 2013 WR Jake Oliver has had to cancel his Junior Day visits to both Texas A&M and Arkansas because of the SAT and ACT. The only Junior Day visits remaining for him are OU on February 4th and Texas on February 12th.

The only question that needs to be answered; was it a dead period when Petrino made contact with DGB? There wasn't a specific date given. Either way it seems he cancelled the in-home visit because of the contact he made in San Antonio whether it was legal or illegal.

    ATH Daje Johnson...

“There’s a 90% chance that if I got an offer I would switch to Texas,” Johnson said. “I have respect for the TCU program, but after I tweeted that I felt like Texas is where my heart is, so I’m going to take the official visit this weekend. I came to a lot of Texas games this year so I know the campus. On my visit, I want to use the time to talk to the coaches about playing early.”

Could be a lucky break for TV, or it could be more than that. OB's Suchomel called Texas the "clear leader" for Jake Oliver today. Hook Em 247 has said Texas is in a really good position for Oliver. Could make for some interesting theater on TexAgs. "We can't even sign a legacy!!"

For those who wondered about Coleman, from ESPN insider:

    Coleman staying with Baylor

Another dark-horse candidate for late attention from Texas has told HornsNation he's done with his recruiting process.
Four-star receiver Corey Coleman (Richardson, Texas/Pearce) told our William Wilkerson today he hasn't heard from Texas coaches lately and is sticking with his verbal commitment to Baylor.

The 5-foot-11, 175-pound prospect is ranked 17th among wideouts on ESPNU's rankings. Back in November, he told HornsNation that Texas receivers coach Darrell Wyatt had called him to say an offer was coming "really soon."

When receiver Thomas Johnson (Dallas/Skyline) decommitted last month, Texas coaches didn't turn their attention to Coleman. They've continued to recruit TCU commit Daje Johnson (Pflugerville, Texas/Hendrickson) - even though he now insists he'll stay with the Horned Frogs - and remain in the race to sign No. 1 receiver Dorial Green-Beckham (Springfield, Mo./Hillcrest). 1/24/12

Some recruiting notes from Hook 'Em 24/7...

**WR Dorial Green-Beckham- Today is the day. Mack and Wyatt (and possibly some other coaches) will be at Hillcrest HS this morning and should stay until lunch time. With the information about Bobby Petrino being publicized yesterday, you can understand there are several different rumors being thrown out over which school is the favorite right now.

**ATH Daje Johnson- Mack, Wyatt, Applewhite and Harsin are all scheduled to see him this afternoon after the DGB visit is finished. Gary Patterson from TCU will follow the Horns in the evening. The link that Mex posted last night pretty much sums up the feelings of where this one is going. Daje knows he's getting an offer and there doesn't seem to be anything standing in his way right now to prevent becoming a Longhorn. Texas has already been endorsed by his mother who lives out-of-state in North Carolina.

**DE Bryce Cottrell- Despite Oregon making a trip to Plano last night to convince him not to visit Austin this weekend, it appears that the visit to UT is going to happen. It is fact that his girlfriend is going to Texas on scholarship for soccer.

**LB Dalton Santos- Both Texas and Tennessee were in Van yesterday to visit him and he says the official visit to UT is definitely on despite the Vols' efforts to shut down his recruitment. He's much like Daje in the sense that a trip to Austin and a sit-down with Mack will change everything.

I'm not saying Mack's approach hasn't work or it's not effective, but why can't he formally offer players when he visits them? If Daje and Santos are ready to commit during the in home, formally offer and take their commitment then and there.

The DGB visit sounds to be going according to plan.

The girlfriend coming to Texas has to help with Cottrell. I wonder if the coaches noticed this in? If so, well done coaches.

I thought Mack still had an in-home visit with DGB and his family? I guess he has to go to either the school or home but not both?

Interesting. DGB had a brother graduate from West Point recently. The family seems alright with their kids going far from home.

It is a bit confusing but apparently Mack has had it planned this way for a while. It works out well because Coach Beckham is already at Hillcrest High and won't miss anything since there will be no in-home. I imagine DGB's mother will be around as well. Texas will definitely get their message across.

I read this somewhere too but I think its a bit different now. His youger brother now has Leukemia and thats why they say DGB doesnt want to go too far. The other brother was already at West Point during this time. To me though, Texas isnt that far from Missouri and I am sure Mack and the rest of the coaching staff would have no problem with him going back home if he needed to be there for any emergencies.

Also, his brother who has leukemia is not just his foster home brother but his blood brother. His other brothers and sister and foster home brothers and sisters. Thats my understanding anyway.
