That's kind of the problem. Imo. We relied on so many players on our win streak that if even one has a bad night our offense really suffers. Of course the defense looks like now too so who knows wtf is going on.
If only one Spur has a bad night they'll win by double digits. It seems like the Spurs have had at least five or six guys underperforming every game of this series. Some of them are outright no-shows. Credit the Mavs' good play for some of that, and the game plan for some more, but most of it is on the guys that are just going out there with no fire and no urgency.
The problem is we're playing OKC ball with Tony, Tim, and Manu getting the majority of the shots. This has been a disturbing trend in recent years. All season long we play "open man gets the shot, period" and then in the playoffs our bench players are suddenly relegated to 2 or 3 shot attempts each. How can you expect them to contribute if they know they're only going to get like 3 shots?
If, on the other hand, you think that any guy can get any number of shots on any given night (because the open man gets the shot, period) then it's probably easier to get in a good rhythm because you're not worried about missing 1/3 of your shot attempts if you miss your first 3 pointer.
Well to be fair, part of that is a direct result of Carlisle's defensive scheme. He wants our big three to play hero ball by design.
Switching everything is extremely vulnerable when done against a team of superstars because it leads to really easy isolation plays. The spurs have none. We have borderline all stars leading our group, and we're not an isolation team.
Well if a bench player could hit a shot then this wouldn't be a problem. Good points though.
Elliott basically confirmed that the Spurs will defend the pick and roll differently
I'd like to see more Parker/Leonard pick and roll with Leonard exploiting Ellis in the post. I think we go to that match up like 3 or 4 times per game which isn't enough. If I were Pop, I'd tell Leonard that we plan to play a bit more through him this game and that he should aim for 15-17 shot attempts this game.
Let's go with a steady diet of Parker isolations against a switching big or Leonard postups against Ellis.
And needless to say, if the Mavericks ever go back to a more traditional defense, then we should absolutely play our usual spurs ball with pick and rolls creating 4 vs 3 matchups that force rotations inside and open up shots for our 3 point shooters.
It's too bad that the Spurs didn't decide to show up in what has been the best first round to the playoffs ever.
If Pop makes adjustments is gonna be interesting to see what the Big German does. He's basically been below average to this point. Can he pick the slack if Pop changes the game plan?
Is it too late to offer coach bud the HC job for the spurs?
He has it whenever he wants it once Pop retires, assuming R.C. and/or Pop stick around in upper management. , I'm sure Bud has enough pull with Holt also.
This thread should be stickied...I mean it's a season defining game imo
What are the odds Pop starts Manu in the 2nd half if we're down by halftime and Green has done like the previous 3 games?
this game is critical.
come out strong and slit their ing throats. be mean. you're a better team than the ing mavs, play and act like it, let's tear em up raw
keep those dallas asses planted firmly in those seats
we lose this and is gonna HTF like you have never seen before
NO RETREAT
NO SURRENDER
WOLVERINES!!!
Let's GO SPURS!!!!
I want this game!
Just do it!!!!![]()
Spurs need to win convincingly. if this is another nail bitter and the spurs can pull it out we could still be easily looking at a 7 game series
Time for the bench mob plus Green to step up or we are looking at a 1-3 deficit. I refuse to believe the Spurs are just going to let the Mavs beat them.
