I'm gonna assume that Green will get some playing time over the next 10 days.
In that time, the Spurs play the Jazz, Nuggets, Lakers, and Bucks. So there's a good chance.

Yeah, anyone want to offer some ideas about how this will play out? Considering we already have Duncan/Splitter/Diaw/Baynes/Ayres, there's really no room for another big...even if you're just looking at garbage time minutes. And if you know he's not going to get any minutes, why sign him to a 10-day contract? What are they hoping to see in these 10 days?

It seems like this is clearly a move for the future (unless they plan on trading Ayres or something, which seems unlikely), but the 10-day contract is just throwing me off. If they're going to send him back to Austin, why only a 10-day contract?

He can also beat Ayres for his minutes.

Duncan, Ayres and Bonner prolly wont be there next year so there'll be a big need at PF...

the spurs have 10 days to trade Ayers for a better 3 than than Daye or an open roster spot. or else they're guilty of in around as usual.

My first guess was that it would be a two year deal with no guaranteed money in the second year, but that was based on the assumption that another team was ready to guarantee the rest of this season. The 10-day deal suggests that no other team was offering anything better.

In that case, look at the calendar. The Spurs have 17 days at home between the upcoming 2 game trip this week and the RRT. Two 10-day contracts will allow them to take a real long look at how he functions with the team and whether or not they want to extend his audition into the summer.

The 10 day contracts keep him off of another roster while they make a longer term decision.

I still wouldn't expect to see him much outside of garbage time. If he survives and gets a longer deal, then he'll probably get to go on the RRT and then head back to Austin.

Duncan *might* come back, Errors and Boner are officially gone after this season. Unless RC takes up LSD. imo.

Buying rest for Duncan, who needs it, and Tiago, who played over the summer and hasn't looked that great lately, it's my first impression. If he's not ready for primetime yet, it's only a 10 day contract...

Now if they could find a 3 and D project as a fallback plan in case they cant retain Danny Green... We have 3 SG with expiring contracts...

Ayers to anybody for an open roster spot to sign Glen Rice Jr. would be impressive.

With Patty back, they're more likely to feature 2 PG lineups with Manu or Green (or shudder... Marco or Bonner) at the 3. As long as Kawhi can take 40 minutes at the 3 come playoff time. Better than playing Daye.

doubt they'll cut them, they can use the salary on a trade, they're expiring deals (except Baynes, who's on a reasonable deal) and there's a lot of tanking teams... but, we'll see.

Well I guess the good thing about the ten-day contract is that there's automatically an open roster spot once it ends in case management wants to explore other options.

Ultimately, I'm with Mel_13, this is more about roster flexibility than anything else... wouldn't be surprised to see Green head back to Austin sooner rather than later...

Baynes is also on an expiring deal. Tiago and Boris are the only bigs under contract for next season. They can make Baynes a restricted FA, but he's going into free agency this summer.

My bad, I though he signed a 2 year deal over the summer. You're correct.

You sound happy today, jeebs... is it that Ayres didn't play a minute last night?

Well, happy that Gaye is gone. Happy that we're halfway through the season, which means halfway to Errors never playing for the Spurs again. And happy that CancerJo was benched, meaning MVPatty took his rightful spot the primary PG.
