I just get out when I need bait, if lures are not working.
Night:
I was paddling back at that point and could not see a thing. I got rammed up against a tree. I got too interested in the fishing. I go out at night on the coast as well. I use google Earth, take my Pick Up and explore. I've had more than you can imagine happen. Alligators, snakes, Sharks, you name it.
Ive even figured out a way to effectively gig flounder with my kayak. 12v battery, homemade light setup PVC with an aircraftb landing light.
The two most dangerous things at the coast are getting cut up on oysters and rays. In that order.
Waders? I only take waders in the winter... I just stopped using them at the coast. Water is well above 70 in the marshes now. In the open bay I might still use waders if the wind is blowing. And I do go with friends. But my work hours are variable so I hunt for spots for the poor 8-5 guys. We are probably a little lax with the safety I must admit.
