Some good stuff in that video (Richards appears at 7:55). He seems to be a bit heavy but his shot still looks good. I find the "making the NBA by 2018" bit quite interesting. He mentions that he of course hopes to make it sooner but acknowledging that he won't crack the NBA overnight and has to put in a lot of work to get there is the right at ude.
I hope that he plays for Austin next season and finally gets a chance to work on his game rather than just collecting another paycheck at the other end of the world. With all the young guys around the D-League team might actually be worth a watch or two.
Seems to me like this dude was late in his resolve. He was drafted in 2010 and should have had the mentality I am getting to the NBA in a couple of years. He's now 25 and NOW has that mentality? I never really knew the player, but meh.
From what I've seen, he's never been that impressive of a player. Probably wasn't even worth the 2nd round draft pick, let alone worth being talked about 6 years later.
From what I've seen LJC needs to be cut next. Unless the coaches see something in him, why waste time and resources on him?
He's a first round pick with two seasons guaranteed so I don't see him getting cut this season for sure. I tend to think no matter how he looks right now (could be the worst player in the final 15th man roster for example) he will still be given a fair chance to improve and work with the coaches all season. Come next summer, he has to show improvement in summer league and go from there.
If he's no good next summer, no better than he's been, that is where he is in the hot seat with his option not picked up and a big risk of getting waived if the Spurs need the spot. For right now, he is probably not that different from other guys trying to make the roster and he would be paid regardless, unlike the other guys who have small guarantees.
