It was a big deal not because of the content, but because it proved that her privileged status of not having to take precautions and being too stubborn to even admit it was a big mistake until it was way late. I think her demise was both strategic and tactical. HRC was devoid of of compelling ideas of her own and she took too much for granted in key states she couldn't afford lo lose.

Do you really think the Comey mattered in states like Wisconsin/Pennsylvania/Michigan? I don't see how a bunch of voters who were exclusively concerned with bringing jobs back would be swayed by that kind of stuff (just like how the grab her by the pussy comment didn't do anything to dissuade them from voting for Trump).
Face it, Hilary got greedy/arrogant and had no way to overcome 30 years of Clinton politics that made the DNC the party free trade/Wall Street/globalism. She gave voters in placed like central Pennsylvania absolutely no reason the vote for her.

The polls speak for themselves. After Comey made his statement the polls in the states you act incredulous about suddenly went to neck and neck.
Hillary definitely was a ty candidate that few out of Wasserman and Schumer wanted anywhere on the spectrum but that does not preclude the effect the FBI Chief's statement had. Recall, Trump was a monumentally ty candidate too.
The polls had her up by 11 points in Pennsylvania heading into Election Day.
Keep in mind that while it was blown out of proportion, she could have avoided the Comey thing by not having a private email server she wasn't supposed to have.
Clinton did it to herself. She ran an insulting campaign that underestimated the intelligence of the average voter.
The 'what does it matter now!" comment in front of Congress played very, very badly.

Hiding from the press for almost a year cost her a lot in the "honesty and openness" category. She arrogantly assumed that staged sound bites was all she needed to win.

I would probably agree with that if those states you mentioned were flimsy and could have gone either way but every polling suggested otherwise. Partly, it is her fault for not putting more efforts into Michigan and Pennsylvania but when every other major polling were telling you you were good by a margin of 4-5 points, you're not exactly dying to go defend that.
As uncredited as Nate Silver is now, he wrote an article detailing how Comey had a big effect polling wise and how it swung late voters toward Trump.
She didn't even go to Wisconsin and that's what took him to 270 - didn't need MI or PA.
I don't think it had anything to do with campaign stops. She just sucked as a candidate and was totally uninspiring to young voters despite piggybacking her appearances on the back of pop concerts to draw crowds. Hanging with Beyonce didn't do anything to make her appear any more attractive to younger voters and was probably a negative with middle class middle aged voters. Older voters that had been around for her 30+ years of public life remembered all the dirt from whitewater to cattle futures to her buddies at the Rose Law Firm going to prison and didn't trust her.
All the polls were converging to zero as the election neared.
