Is it just me or is Van Exel totally useless if he's not scoring, might as well stick Beno out there.

I can't tell if Duncans injury is bothering him or if he's just playing like a pussy but his timely 4th quarter missed shots are not helping.

    Kori -

Sorry, bad grammar, I meant Nazr to a lesser extent. Finley sucked.

Bowen played awesome defense, I guess the two offensive rebounds he let Maurice Evans grab just kinda irked me a little and stood out in my mind.

Bum - I agree Duncan is playing like a puss. I'm just saying that shouldn't give the rest of the team carte blanche to do the same. Someone nut up already...

I still see Miami beating Detroit in the playoffs.
Yea, you can hope and dream all you want. But that fact is that the Heat got worse and the Pistons got much much better.

Bowen was awesome today and Finley sucked ass all the way around.
I only saw the second half but I was looking at the TV saying to myself,"Is rip hurt or something?"

Then I saw he played 32 minutes and I just couldnt see him because Bowein was on him like an invisible cloak on Harry potter.

Oh trust me Ag, I am not giving anyone a free pass. Its just the corrolation between this teams lack luster performances and Tim Duncans mediocre play cant be played down. This team goes where Duncan takes it. Tony is having a great year. We have a solid bench. Rasho is even stepping up to a certain extent. None of that matters though if we cant put this team on Duncans shoulders and will out a win.

Yeah I re-read the "to a less extent" and got it.

Bowen did all he could do today. Rip only scored one basket against him (his other three weren't on Bowen). That one rebound maybe he should have gotten. Not that other one. Evans is going to outleap him. Bowen was so solid on both ends of the floor today that it made Finley/Barry combo look even worse.

This was just a bad team effort all around though on the glass. Ben/McDyess freakin' owned the boards. With Duncan not jumping much and seemingly half asleep at times, and the other bigs so lackadaisical it was just a bad day.

I like it when the Spurs get their ass kicked sometimes though. They have skated through a lot of their wins this season and sometimes it takes a national TV beatdown to get a team to take notice. Hopefully this was it. (And hopefully Manu/Tim get healthy).

He does have a back injury (was listed as "questionable" against Golden state), but I can't blame it on that. He lets Bowen get in his head, then he starts missing wide open jumpers and turning the ball over with no one near him. Lucky for us, he couldn't have played a worse game if he tried and we still won.

Bowen does the same thing to Ray Allen. It's a cool phenomenon.

One of the Ray's teammates said (off the record) that Ray gets so freaked out sometimes by Bowen that he gets weird tunnel vision ... doesn't see his teammates or the rim.

bottom line: Spurs have a load of work to do, and several trades to complete.

    Doubt it.

Going into the season everyone thought the Spurs had the best roster in the league.

They need Tim and Manu healthy. And if they can ship out Rasho or Nazr and get something of value, they might. But I can't imagine "several" trades.

Detroit beat the Spurs badly today. No other way to put it. These are easily the two best teams in the league, but if the Spurs don't get healthy they will have no chance against the Pistons in the Finals...assuming Detroit stays healthy. Ginobili is a tough cover for Detroit and S.A. really missed him today.

First of all props to the Pistons, they certainly wanted this game more. This game went pretty much the way I thought it might. Now some thoughts on the game:

    1) Finley and Barry going a combined 2-11 is pretty pathetic. These guys aren't athletic enough to stay out of foul trouble from Detroit's starters and it showed. If they're not hitting their shots when the defense is broken down then they're fairly useless. Manu was definitely missed since he can both create his own shot, create for others like these two and is athletic enough to defend Detroit's starters. Finley has been known to disappear in the postseason and this game had a playoff atmosphere. Not encouraging.

    2) I was slammed by the Rasho lovers on this site when I mentioned Rasho's propensity to shrivel in physical, playoff-type games. I think his play today speaks for itself, nothing new here. As I said, even though Mohammed has numerous holes in his game, he thrives when things get physical. Maybe some here will see this now but I doubt it.

    3) We lost this game primarily because we were horribly outrebounded and got nothing from our wings (Finley/Barry). Rebounding has been a sore spot for our team ever since Dave retired. Outside of Tim, we can't count on anyone in our frontcourt to average anywhere near 10 boards/game. When Tim sits, we get little to no rebounding at all and it's a huge problem.

The Pistons shot about the same percentage as we did but they got 7 more shot attempts than we did and had 18 offensive rebounds - 3 times the amount we had. When you're outrebounded by 27 boards, it's pretty impossible to win a game.

I don't know what Pop will do to remedy our frontcourt but that is where our most glaring weakness lies. Tim has virtually no help whatsoever up front and he cannot overcome Wallace&Wallace plus McDdyess plus Davis all by himself. Manu's return will more than shore up our backcourt but our frontcourt has no easy answers.

I feel Pop needs to work a trade and jettison Rasho plus a combination of bench wing players to get Tim at least a frontcourt mate who can rebound and defend reliably. The Pistons took us to a game 7 last year and their frontcourt has gotten better while ours has declined. Playoff games are won in the paint so something needs to be done.

Yea, hopefully Flip tells Rip what Larry Brown wouldn't (apparantely it's not "playing the right way"). That he needs to pick his spots. I know Rip's used to getting his shot off over anyone at anytime, but you can't do that against Bowen. If Rip starts distributing more than trying to force things I like our chances much better when it really counts than if he just trys to "Shoot his way through it".

I wonder why pop didn't decide to put Bowen on Billups around the third/fourth quarter when he was raining three's...

Not that it wouldhave made much of a difference I guess.

Very disappointing effort by the Spurs. Even though some people want to downplay the significance of this game, I think it was an opportunity to make a statement. The way the game started, I thought the Spurs were going to make a statement. But the only statement I got from this game was that when the going gets tough, the Spurs appear to lack the necessary motivation to keep up with the Pistons.
As it is, the Pistons are already a y bunch who feel that game 7 could have gone either way. This effort by the Spurs did nothing to diminish their at ude. This was a national game---where was their will to win?
I 'll be glad and relieved when Manu comes back and I hope that Pop does not insult him by bringing him off the bench. They need his confidence and his effort from the tipoff.

Pistons had 6 players with 9 or more pts. Chauncey wasn't the Spurs main problem, but he did show up late, as always. Tony should targetting to get to Chaucey's level when Tony is Chauncey's age.

"the Pistons are already a y bunch who feel that game 7 could have gone either way."

We ALL know the last 12 minutes could have gone either way.
The fact that they were played @SBC was critical, very probably decisive.
Pistons are playing for HCA NOW, not in March.

I was worried right from the start. When Parker scored ALL of our first points, I saw the rest of the team just standing around and watching. And that's what happened the rest of the game.

Spurs win on Team play...if we ain't hitting all cylinders, we don't win. Duncan, Parker, etc...can't make the Spurs win by themeselves. The whole team needs to be involved from the get-go.

There was no off-the-ball movement on offense...little picking, screening, etc. You never say Finley recieve the ball coming off a pick...didn't happen once. And that's his game, he's no 1 on 1 creator. On defense, the blocking-out was non-existent. Our interior, without Timmy...is absolutlely horrible.

But, really...this is nothing new. Been happening all year. Laying this loss on any one player, is silly.

I think Pop has some serious work to do. I see some potential in Nazr as being more a force in the middle...dunno why he's not getting more playing time. Pop must see something I don't, cuz what I've seen from him...has been pretty good. Even his hands seem to be getting a little better.

Anyway, game showed that this "team" has a long way to go yet. And that's Pop's job now.
