Look at the dunks and agression and think back on the careers of Rasho and Nazr.

I think he's demonstrated the basic skill set for a Spurs' big playing alongside TD: ability to run the floor, attack the rim, rebound and block shots. Those have been the 4 requirements since day one.
It's a "greatest hits" video ya'll. If you watch Robertas thoughout a game, he's not as dominant as he looks in the video montage. He has impressive moments, though.
His role is more workmanlike, setting screens, protecting the middle, rebounding, and being a physical post presence. He shoots horrible from the FT line and teams can sag off him to force his hand on his so-so jumper. You can actually lose track of him during a game, just like you do with Rasho, unless you are watching for his role as path-maker for the scorers.
It is an awesome video, though and an amazing testimony to Robertas' long, successful recovery from a major physical setback.
I dont think anyone is dilusional about his offensive abilities, he scored 9 ppg there, that might mean 9 ppg here at best, and that is assuming Tim and Tony can open up some space for him inside with double teams and dimes. That being said, I think everyone here appreciates that he isnt a lump of lead standing on the court (Rasho) an doesnt pump fake 30 times before dunking.
That's great considering that the Spurs could pay him $3 mil to do what Radoslav can't for $42 mil.
he can set good screens for manu and tp good post solid d
I not a damn pumpfake in the whole video. Thank God.
I like his aggressiveness, specially on defense. Could be the intimidator/enforcer the Spurs need. Seems mobile enough..maybe light enough on his feet to keep pace with Dirk on the perimeter? we'll see...
Looks really good, but how old are those vids???
I don't want to come up with an opinion of him based on highlights of him 5 years younger.
Didn't he have a knee injury or something???
Do people read? Thats my only question.
Sorry if I don't want to read through 5 pages of posts....actually I'm not sorry![]()
Someone said the hightlights were of him after the injury.
First impressions from the video are that this guy is what the Spurs have wanted since D Rob left.
Someone who brings D, athleticism, and someone with an edge.
He shows all the above, and on top of it all that no one mentions, he has what appears to be a great amount of strength.
Rebounding, shot blocking is all the Spurs needed.
Looks like he can bring it.
Id debate over trading Scola, or bringing him over for half the MLE.
I wouldn't give more, Id be more inclined to play Oberto more minutes.
no kidding, this cat looks strong as
i love his intensity, hopefully he is still athletic though
isn't this all a moot point anyways, cuz the chances of us buying him out are slim and none right?
hes a free agent, no buyouts.
Your thinking of Scola.
Plus, alot of those highlights are post accident, so this cat can still jump.
Dude has NASTY ups.
Probably what CBF is talkin about
If the dude would rather ball in ing Israel I say let him.
"What's your highest achievement, Robertas?"
"Dude, I played in Israel. Israel, !"
If asked, I think he would say "Dude, learning to walk again."
"Dude, learning to walk again so I could play in Israel!"
Yeah if he takes the money in Israel over playing in the NBA and only having to beat out Rasho to be a well paid millionaire in a couple years, I'd say go ahead. That's not the type of player the Spurs need.
Can you jump over a car GiG?
What I notice is he has the ability to hang, be mobile, coordinated and shift his body, in the air...that is not typical of your average in NBA C.
I agree, I don't think anyone believes he still has a 40 inch vert, that wasn't apparent in the videos. Comparing the Mahinmi video, it looked like Mahinmi had the better vertical. Javtokas still has the explosiveness though. He finished strong despite being fouled because he gets up quicker than anyone around him in those videos.
It's also apparent that he isn't just a phone booth rebounder and defender. He made some great blocks where he had to adjust and move laterally, not just up and down.
So while his vertical doesn't appear to be what it once was, his explosiveness and lateral mobility still look very good.
