False.
(Please don't make it the final question.)
In this thread, points (and bonus points) must be offered before any more questions are answered...
False.
(Please don't make it the final question.)
How about we say I am just making it up and leave it at that. Happy now?
For the record...if I am drawing my own conclusions I will be only too happy to point that out old foot...that way I can prop myself for my insight when I am right. See Tony Parker getting mad about the Kidd pursuit and Kidd not signing, for a better example of this.
They said it...who said it? I don't know. I heard some guy attribute it to scouts during a game once upon a time...
And the purpose of the comparison was to point out Horry's versatility as a passer, shooter, rebounder etc...one of those guys who could do it all.
As for my lack of sources...
Believe it or not...basketball was around before the internet grasshopper.
Believe it or not...once upon a time Spursfans went to bed without even seeing the boxscore, and every once in a while, without even knowing who won the game.
false is not the answer.
Damn, a little touchy, aren't we
It was a sincere question.
True
As for who it is...I don't know. But there are still a few people around that were born in the 19th century. Not really a believe it or not question...
Is it Anthony Daniels?
nope, he was born in the 20th century.
oh! I know!
Peter Mayhew?
I've just bee noticing some surprised reactions from you on occasion...
Like for instance, I know for certain you went into absolute shock when I whiffed so badly on Moore's jersey retirment in that argument we had a couple of weeks ago...but back then it wouldn't have been out of the ordinary at all to miss something like that, in the early 90's...and even in the late 90's. Or to miss out on whose jerseys were retired....I didn't really even know who James Silas was really until about 2003, because he a damn scrub when I was a kid. I didn't know when Gervin's jersey was retired either, I actually thought it was after Moore's....
Even in the late 90's it was the sort of thing that gets mentioned at the end of a recap or something...if you are lucky.
Someone saying Horry was another Magic is similar in that it predates the internet where all details were waiting to be gleaned with a few keystrokes into the old search engine....it was something said on TV by an analyst after Horry hit a big shot or made a big pass or something. Why was it said? Because it gets your attention when you hear that kind of comparison.
I myself do not know if people were saying that about Horry in 88, as I hadn't heard of him then...but if they were saying it(in terms of impact he would have on the court)...well they certainly would have been over-rating him.
Born 1910. Still alive. Not Canadian.
Uh...isn't John Wooden still alive?
If not Peter Mayhew, I'm guessing....
David Prowse!
Wooden's not even a hundred yet...
How old is Mike D'antoni's dad?
Come on -- it's got to be Peter Cushing.
Someone finally caught on....
I've so far guessed C3-P0, Chewbacca, Darth Vader, R2-D2 and Lando Calrissian...
I've been on to you for a while, I just thought we were finally getting esoteric enough to wade in with my own guess.
Nice...a Star Wars fan. I actually had to look those names up on IMDB. I could only tell you Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and the like, otherwise...
It's sad that Peter Cushing is now known as, "that Star Wars guy".
Ditto Christopher Lee as, "that other Star Wars guy" or "that Lord of the Rings dude".
It was just a question. But yeah, I do have surprised reactions to some of the things you "bee noticing".
That was a few months ago. And yeah, I kinda led you into that ownage because I knew all along when his jersey was retired ... I went to that game. I just let you dig your own grave before letting you know.
I apologize.
Shoog just shed a tear.
Link to where I asked for a link about Horry being compared to Magic? I just wanted to know in what time period you were talking about. High school? Early college? Late college? Early NBA?
I've followed Horry for a while because I liked the Alabama teams of the early '90's. That 1992 team had Horry, Latrell Sprewell, James Robinson, Cedric Moore, Elliott Washington, David Benoit (i think) ... yet they still underachieved. IIRC, they got bounced in the first round of the tourney. Pretty ironic that not being able to win was one of the reasons why Horry's draft stock wasn't higher . . .
But yeah, I was just wonderin'. D@mn.
George Gervin? The Iceman?
Phog Allen? Adolph Rupp?
never heard this.
I've heard Sean Higgins, Lloyd Daniels, Billy Owens, Danny Manning, Anfernee Hardaway, but not Horry.
They all were not legimate 6' 9" or couldn't dribble well enough to play the point.
If Gervin did that, he wasn't the only Spur to ever do it -- your question asked for the "only" Spur to get 30 or more in his NBA debut. Willie Anderson undoubtedly did it.
still one more trivia
[worth two bonus points]
Which former Seattle Supersonic and Portland Trailblazer, while a freshman in college in a major elite division one conference, scored 30 points or more in his college freshman debut?
