Scoreboard Dumb !!!!!!
It always amazes me when this type of thread appears here. People thinking that just because a player plays well on another team in another type of system then that automatically translates to him playing the same way here. Might happen but not very often.
Look at Beno - did you see this type of performance out of him here? I saw only flashes and not for very long. He's doing very well in Sactown and I'm glad for him but him blew his opportunity here. Why do you think Detroit fans in the '05 Finals were calling for him? Could it be he sucked? Couldn't play D and got stripped of the rock frequently?
Kori is right - you can't expect a player to preform the same way here as they do on other teams. Most people know that the Spurs have the most complicated system that demands much more discipline than any other team in the league. ST has called it the 1st year learning curve or something to that effect and have given players leeway because of it. Remember the Elson discussion? Nazr? Some have mentioned that KT is one player that has learned the system faster than most.
So to even imply that Scola would have put up the same numbers here as he has done in Houston is simply not feasible.
Anyway why are we still discussing this? Timvp is right - it's over and move on. The playoffs are upon us and we need ot focus on that and not the old and worn out Scola deal. It's done - stick a fork in it!

Many people were saying the same thing this summer regarding how Scola playing great in Spain did not mean he was going to do so in the NBA. That did not turn out to be true.
I doubt that Pop would have given him Oberto/Elson's starting job this season.
After a coumple of months, I don't see why. And if he didn't this year, maybe we would've next.
Just be happy for Scola that he has a chance and get over it.
I am.
The Spurs just beat down his team - in case any Spurs fans forgot.
Being sad the Spurs lost the opportunity of having anopther quality player in their roster does not mean I'm a lesser Spurs fan the next poster. I happen to think Scola would've been an addition to the team. I'm sorry this upsets many posters.
Was it really a mistake? It is fact that he wouldn't get the same opportunities on the Spurs as he does on the Rockets. His mere 9ppg 6rpg would translate to 4 and 2 on the Spurs. Don't see how that makes much of a difference.

Missed the point by a mile . . .
players that play no d do not excite me that the might have been a spur
all scouts even other then the spurs were wrong that scola could rebound in the nba
but had rc not told him to work on it would he be as good as he is no
I think u shd change your nick to 'RoxFailure'

I have a serious migrane after that one . . .
Scola and the Rockets.
We killed them today and I'd love to see Scola and the Rockets in the playoffs.
It will be a sweep or Spurs in 5
what makes you think that Scola would've not played enough D with the Spurs?
what makes you think He would've been a lazy guy in SA if He`s always been a hard worker?
what makes you think The Spurs would've not been the best team in the league with Scola ?
what make you think that a hustler, hard worker, with a terrific BBIQ and team player would've not played with POP?????????![]()
Eh, the Scola trade was a mistake. You can rationalize it by saying he wouldn't have the same stats on the Spurs if you want but the fact is they didn't get even close to value back for him.
But now he's a Rocket so F him.
his d sucked today
so what makes you think it would be better if he had a spurs jersey on
YOU ARE CORRECT, SIR!

Why would we want him on the team? He plays less defense than Finley. We don't need a player who by inserting into the lineup guarantees that opposing big men score at will. Look at how Duncan blew by him. KT is a much better defender and adequate enough on offense. Same with Horry, a much better defender.
In case you didn't know, the Spurs win with defense, not one dimensional scorers. Every single player in our lineup plays defense, even Finley and Barry. Scola just looked plain lazy on defense.
The best you can say about it is that we didn't get value back in the trade. Big deal, no team does in any trade. They're all lopsided.
A solid throttling of a team that was supposed to be the little over a week ago and not to mention the original Texas team with the most annoying fans shouldn't warrant an immediate Scola If Then thread.
The Big Dog - Pride of Wichita!
Scola would be starting with Duncan and you guys would be even better.....
That being said....you kicked the crap out of my team today.....well done....
Finley looked spry out there.....
Good game, well deserved win.....
DD
---> His D sucked ? Scola was defending TD, and he did it great.
D can be learned.
My point has been all along that the Spurs would be better with Scola than what they are. That does not mean they need Scola to repeat. But he is still young and could rerplace our old bigs in the coming years.
But I agree with TPark, at this point we are beating a dead horse.
I should not have started this thread . . .
Dude...You're right.
Don’t get me wrong. I love Manu and Fab. Do you see my avatar?
But yeah! I'm sick and tired of all argies fans.
They aren't Spurs fans. They're only Manu, Fab or Scola fans.
J'adore les Spurs.
I'm not Scola hater. I like the guy, but I think Oberto fits better in Pop systems and schemes.
In the game Oberto with 4/4 and 5 asist +/- with+16 (Tony with +22 and Scola with -22) was all Pop needs from him.
Fab did everything to win and the Spurs won. What's the matters?
I think Scola doesn't get opportunities in the spurs offensive.
At least, totally different to the ones he gets in Houston without Yao, now.
There isn't comparison. We have Tim, Tony and Manu and if the guy is only a good scorer, maybe Pop and RC are right.
Pop and RC>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Scola.
Dude, I remember you. You aren't only Scola lover. YOU are Oberto hater. Fab is a Spur guy not Scola. Are you a really Spurs fans? yeah! dead certain.![]()
Suck my !
I consider myself as much a Spurs fan as the other guy. I feel as bad as any guy in San Antonio when the Spurs lose, and also get as happy as San Antonians do, when the Spurs win.
I still follow other Argentine players and get happy when they have good showings. But I could care less if the Rockets or Toronto wins.
Actually, before every Rocket game, I'm always hoping they lose for obvious reasons. That does not mean I cannot get happy when Scola puts up good numbers.
Luis who?
Let's stop talking about Luis Scola, dawgs. Its a dead topic. He ain't a Spur. Besides, we've got Splitter and Mahinmi coming in soon, not saying that they are going to be better in the NBA than Scola, but they might be better fits and their contracts are actually Spurs property.
