    CelticTalk is thataway, garnetttt ---------------->

Just admit you want to hear this phrase repeated for the rest of eternity: "KG was an amazing player who was just as good and just as clutch as Duncan. The only thing that seperated KG and Duncan was KG's supporting cast. The one year KG had a decent supporting cast, he single-handedly carried that team to a championship. That alone proved he's Duncan's equal and better than bigmen who couldn't do that such as David Robinson and Patrick Ewing."

If the Celtics win, that will be KG's legacy

Then again, I hate Kobe more than any player so I can't root for the Lakers either. If a team has to win it, all I can do is wait to celebrate that one of these two teams lost. Guaranteed KG or Kobe tears is the only reason this Finals is watchable.
No it won't. KG will be credited for being a great player (which he is) who finally played on a team good enough to win it all. Leading a team to the championship is a lot different than carrying it to one. Anyone who has watched this series realizes the clutch, money player on the Celtics is Paul Pierce.

KG is not only not dominating the series, he is showcasing his major weakness: constantly settling for the outside jumper. A 6'11' guy who does not impose his will in the paint? Sorry, no one with half a brain who has watched the NBA for the last ten years would think that KG can dominate a game or series the way Tim Duncan has throughout his career. You don't ever hear anyone regarding Kevin Garnett as the "greatest power forward to ever play the game". It is said all the time about Tim Duncan.

Look, if a bunch of east coast media hacks want to dub some false legacy on Garnett vs. Duncan because Garnett wins a championship this year, so be it. It don't mean . Duncan's resume is complete.

By the way, the Lakers. At least the Celtics are a hard nosed, defensive minded team led by a former Spur. How can any Spurs fan not care if the Lakers win a championship? Go Celtics.

    Wrong.

If the Celtics beat down the Lakers, it makes the Spurs look even worse. It makes them look like they couldn't even beat a wussy team that lost to the Celtics.

At least if the Lakers win, we can say .. Oh well, Spurs lost to the 2008 Champs.
No problem. I think most of us realize the Spurs lost to a team that wasn't that great. It is what it is. No satisfaction whatsoever in losing to that same not-so-great team just because they win a championship.

I can't stand both teams. Hopefully Tim Donaghy comes out with some juicy info that shuts down the NBA until the start of next season
timing would be perfect as it's Stern's desired Flakers Celts finals... damn i'd love that...

It occurred to me (and it probably occurred to others sooner) that if the Celtics win, the Spurs will remain the only Western Conference team to uphold the honor of the conference in the Finals since 2003, given that the Lakers and Mavericks both flamed out when given the opportunity to demonstrate the West's dominance by winning the Finals. There is something to be said for being unique. And for all of the insufferability of Lakers' fans, it might be slightly more pleasant to remind them that: (1) they've been teh suck in consecutive Finals; and (2) they've only beaten Boston 2 out of 11 (or whatever that number is for Finals matchups).

I miss the Lakers trolls. Where did they go?
they are losing - don't expect D&C to show up any time soon, unless his team wins again.

    He's so predictable.

That sounds like an argument a mav or sun fan would make. Moral victories are pretty unsatisfiying when you have tasted the trophy 4 times in 9 years. That being said I have a tough time rooting for boston as well. I have a friend who's hate for the Spurs is ridiculous and she has been on the celtic bandwagon all season...she is just a casual fan but she has beaten me in every sports bet we have made this year!!! Ugh....I hate to see her be right about this too.

2008 is just not a good year.

Anyway as much talk as we have about lakers vs celtics fans there is no bigger in the entire sports world than ohio state football fans.

Hopefully the Celtics solved THAT problem with those 2 wins in Auburn Hills,
and this series won't even go back to Boston

I didn't care going in, but find myself rooting for the C's.

My hatred for the Fakers, and they manner in which they are shoved down our throats, simply disgusts me.

    Go C's

Question: If Paul Pierce averages 60 points, 20 rebounds, and 10 assists in two Celtics' closeout wins in Los Angeles while KG goes scoreless and defecates on Bill Russell's seat, will that be enough to maybe draw a vote or two away from KG as Finals MVP?

If the C's win, Paul Pierce is the MVP, period. It's not even close right now. He pulled a Willis Reed stunt in game one and hit those back to back 3's and tore them up last night. Duncan will not get forgotten because Garnett wins a 'chip but if the lakers win it does take away from the Spurs legacy. That is the most important thing.

Agreed. KG is a utility guy in the series, but it is Pierce's to win or lose. The Lakers have no way of stopping him so far.

If the Celtics beat down the Fakers, it also highlights a few things about the Spurs/Fakers series:

    * Manu's injury and the Spurs total dependency on him
    * The pitiful offensive woes of the Spurs
    * ...and of course, the age and lack of athleticism with the current roster

Just had to get that in there.

This is a tough one. I really wish that both could somehow lose.

I'm going to have to root for the Lakers to win, just because if the team that beat the Spurs doesn't go on to win it all, it makes the Spurs loss that much worse in my eyes.

Plus I really cannot stand the idea of KG and Ray Allen winning a ring.

That being said, Boston has looked really, really good. I'm not so sure that the Lakers can win 3 straight at home.

As much as it pains me to say this, I have to root for the Celtics in this matchup. I don't think there's anything worse than the Kobe/Colonel combination.

Fakers made the Spurs look really old and slow.

Celtics are making the Fakers look really soft.

The playoffs have a way of exposing who a team REALLY is!

Kobe doesn't deserve to celebrate a le with the same teammates and organization he threw beneath the Buss (Jerry) prior to the start of '08. Celts won in Detroit, they can win AT LEAST 1 in L.A. and finish the Lakers off in Boston if it comes down to it.
But Allen and Garnet's whinning is hard to take, also. I can maybe give KG some credit but I really don't particularly like Ray Allen. Usually in the Finals I can root for one or the other teams but not this year.

It's the "Lesser of Two Evils" finals.

This would be a harder call for me if it weren't for Phil Jackson, as I am no fan of either Ray Allen or Kevin Garnett. But I have never yet wanted a Phil Jackson-coached team to win anything and I'm not going to start now. Him not winning another ring is far more important to me than Allen or Garnett finally winning one.

I just can't cheer for the Lakers. They are complete ES. The sense of en lement, the pettiness after losses, the cheap jabs at teams, not giving credit-I can't stand that. I don't like either team but I am not cheering for this team.
