Granted, he's a bit better than any pg we have considering he's 65 years old, but how many games will he play before he gets injured ? Is he getting a DNP Coaches decision - old. Not a fan, but I guess he's better than Sochan or Branham at pg.

Compared to someone like Trae Young, CP3 is like Bruce Bowen both in terms of defense and not needing the ball.
Sure but Trae is like the worst in the league in ball pounding and defense. CP is in that same mold. He’s not a good fit IMO - spurs needed legit 3PT volume and defense and CP sucks at that and Castle cant shoot either.

It’s not a good fit outside of some PnR which is NOT what SA wants to run and not the system that’s free flowing with playmakers and creators all over. I really dont see what CP does to help any of the issues we saw last year that mattered the most outside of PnR which SA will likely run one of the lowest amount of in the nba.

This exactly!! Paul will still be ring chasing with LeBrons play-in Lakers come April 25, while we get Gabe Vincent and a 2nd round pick at the deadline. He's just taking a short-term side-trip to SA to coach and save his legs, before chasing again in earnest.

    Win/win/win.
If this really was a case, signing Paul wouldn’t have happened on the first day of free agency. CP3 is hanging it up after this season as a Spur.

I would be happy to jettison Sochan and trade away his Dennis Rodman hair look and swiss cheese matador defense.

Assuming this means that Tre or Keldon is on the move at some point this summer tbh. Wouldn't mind moving Tre if it means we get more shooting/wing help.
Why do people keep thinking this means Tre gets traded? How old do you think Chris Paul is????

This will help us scout Chris Paul Jr for one of those 2029 picks.

Maybe teach these guys how to get the ball to their superstar talent instead of freezing him out.
Ah this bull lie still going around

He's still a solid player on the offensive end with his play making and his assist to turnover ratio was pretty good. I look forward to the 4 or 5 lobs he's going to throw to Victor every game. The other positive about him is he will get on guys for not looking for Victor when they try to freeze him during games like they did last year. It's only a 1-year deal which is good in the short term. Surprisingly I like this signing.

I am confused so now who is going to be our starting PG the guy we picked #4 in the draft or the second round 41st pick guy, or the 40 year old guy?

CP3 had the same usage percentage as Tre Jones. The Warriors were significantly better on defense with CP3 on the court. CP3 hasn't been a ball pounder for about a decade now and he has always been strong and smart enough to be at least an average defender.

It's been repeated ad naseum, even though Wembanyama had a sky high usage rate by season's end.

People take the early season struggles (with a PF starting at PG) to get him the ball and assume that was all season long (or look up random instances throughout a game).

Not the biggest fan of CP3, but this team needed another legitimate PG and veteran leadership. It might have been 4 or so years ago, but OKC really started to turn the corner when they paired CP3 with SGA.

I'm hopeful he'll help everyone's game and get us into our sets quicker.

I like this move. Kind of shocked by the negative responses here, not gonna lie. It’s a one year deal and his BBIQ and development for Castle/Wemby/Vassell/Sochan by itself makes it worth it even if he plays 25 mpg for 55 games total.

Brilliant. Clearly Paul wouldn't get $11 million from a contender. He comes here. Makes his money. Teaches the young guys professionalism and works with the point guards and logs 20 minutes a game. And then at the end of the season, they cut him and he goes to join a contender to try and win a le his last year.

Feels more like we got an assistant coach than a player lol

Love the idea of a tutor rental and then dumping him at the deadline

I hate CP3 lol wtf but this will definitely be good for development. Probably one of the best vets you could get for such a young team.

Yeah. I it seems line a stopover for CP3 and discussed that Spurs will try to trade him to a contender team by the deadline. Hoping Spurs can nab a future FRP for him. It's so valuable that even if he doesn't play, impact is still there.

Exactly. This team feels like it has been a rudderless boat. They have badly needed a veteran player who can show them what basketball actually looks like. Pop seems like he's out of teaching mode. Now he has a guy who can show our budding Superstar and the rest of the role players how to be professionals.. Paul will show them how to play. This year needs to be a teaching year and you have brought in the right veteran to do it.

CP3 can be traded on Dec. 15, right? The Spurs might be able to get something from a contender at the trade deadline. Maybe that was part of the sell. Come teach the kids for a few months and then we can send you to a contender if you want.

Denver will probably be ready to replace Westbrook by then. Didn’t we get a Denver 2nd rounder for Forbes?

That’s because (IMO) there was a curry level guard in there alongside Klay etc….but here? Im skeptical.
