Carwin is for real, punched right through Mir's attempts to block against the cage, KO'd Mir twice before he hit the ground. Brock is HUGE, the unification fight is David vs Goliath...except David is packing canned hams as strong as Goliath.
Now time for the main event!

What was up with the "no passing" strategy from Jackson? I don't understand it and I feel like GSP could have finished this in the 4th.

Once again Miragliotta proves to be one of the worst refs in mma. There was no reason for Mir to take so much unnecessary punishment.
Dan Hardy won over a lot of fans tonight. That's a never-say-die at ude.
I underestimated Batman. I figured he would have a lot more difficulty handling Camoes' bjj than he actually did.

Okay, so I had a chance now to watch the mir fight.
Mir is better but he could not get away from the power of Carwin against the cage. Acually same strategy that brock came up with. Shut down techniqe not agaist the ground but now against the cage and Carwin got power in that short punches ! If he can land one of his shots to Brock it's ova' Brock will need to change the battle into a wrestling game with him dictating the tempo and be ofensive. Otherwise Carwin will be too much.
When Mir was dropped he tried to go for an arm. Maybe if he would be more conscious he would try to take Carwin into his guard, but I think it would not help much at this point. Mirs boxing skills are better then Carwins, but Shane knew it I guess and put himself into his most comfortable position
Miragliotta is really bad ref. Nice person but bad ref. How can you be afected by crowds boos?
It will come to the point where the crowd would dictade where they want the fight to be.
GSP - fantastic performance. watching GSP is pleasure, and this fight was all I wanted to see. Well maybe some Hardy blood and a sub or a knockout to Hardy. But George was relentless. His takedowns are the best in the game. He taken down people that were the best in takedown defense.

Drwal - what a mistake! But what the Palhares was thinking to keep spinning the leg?! It was tapped out long earlier. Hopefully Drwal is okay, and hopefully he will win his next fight. damn.
Just got back from the fights, good event overall wish my seats had been a little better..
Crushing loss for Mir, mentally not sure where he goes from here. Could be a tough road back.. He put everything he had into this win and a showdown with Brock and he was flattened by Carwin tonight. The extra muscle did not help at all when faced with another big heavyweight that could move him around that cage.
GSP/Hardy was a good performance by GSP but even i was not blown away by it. GSP i don't get why he was trying to sub Hardy so much. After he didn't tap to that brutal armbar, in the 2nd he needed to just focus on GNP and let it go more on the feet. That should not have gone the distance, by GSP standards not a great performance.. The guy is so great maybe even his biggest fans are expecting a little too much from him anymore. I am amazed i am saying it but he really should have take a few more risks tonight. Hardy is very tough that is for sure..

Holy crap I thought I was on to something when I thought of this. I'm so glad I'm not the only one that noticed. My favorite fighter is parallel to my favorite basketball team. It's really a shame for Fitch however that GSP is the 2.0 version of him. Such a damn good wrestler who happens to be in the same weight class as THE best wrestler.
At this point it seems GSP has to fight another weight. I can't see ANYONE in welterweight beating him. If Matt Hughes looks good he will be the only one I'd give a chance.
I'm now a Dan Hardy fan. First of all, I never wanted to admit but I've always loved his style. The bandana, the mohawk, the cool mouthpiece, go ahead and make fun but I think it's ing awesome. I also LOVED how he was just drinkin a monster right after the fightAnd now that he got humbled I don't feel too bad admiting he's a ing badass
Mir now needs to evaluate his mental approach.
It's tough cause people liket to critisize fighter. damn they are working frickin hard and a loss is already tough thing to swallow when you have big expectations and demand from yourself.
GSP was great but I think in the stand up he also had an adventage. The problem was that Hardy has a KO power so GSP avoided it.
GSP does not have brutal g&p he is not finisher there.
GSP has tremendous GNP when he lets it go. He massacred BJ in RDs 2, 3 and 4 with his GNP till they threw in the towel. Tough to GNP anyone out with such a good chin like Hardy but GSP wasted far too much time going for subs in this fight i thought..
Well BJ is smaller and still all 3 rounds with GSP g&p BJ was not finished.

Yeah i know i mean he can put guys away with GNP or at least beat them up so they are more open for subs or finishes on the feet. GSP for whatever reason fell in love with taking the back and trying to pull off an arm sub.
btw. that was a great card. Almeida impressed me a lot in his firts cut to 170

btw2. Who gave 50-45 for GSP on the cards? easily 2 rounds were 10-8
Oh 100% agreed, i had it 50-43 Hardy was destroyed in RDs 2 and 4 like crazy..
He can beat guys down but can land a KO punch, which is tough ofcourse esp. with this elite compe ion. He just do not that kind of power.

The only good thing I see coming out of this is the emergence of respect that I have for Carwin now. Before this fight, I wouldn't have given him a snowballs chance to beat ANYONE in the HW division worth a damn, but after this ass raping, I think he'll give Crock a run for his money.
Also, I love the fact that he refused to get into a -talking battle with Crock. Crock: "That's a fake belt, yada yada"
Carwin: "Ya, I know."

I predicted the Carwin win months ago. I am glad i was right, i really think Mir is/has been overrated for a while. I hope he knocks Brock's lights out.

I always liked Dan Hardy, i didn't give him a chance to beat GSP at this point, but i liked him as a fighter. His performance last night cemented me as a fan. He was able to compartmentalize the pain on those sub attempts, and overcome, you could see him will it away and just work through it, impressive. Against any other fighter, that would have been enough to demoralize the opponent and swing the momentum. Give him another year or so, and he will be an elite fighter.
So yeah...once again...GSP on roids
