yeah, bargnani is coming along quite nicely
only difference is that dirk was 19 when he came into the league, bargnani is 21 right now
I watched the game ; nice game
Experience took over.
Props to Colangelo, he has built a nice team
Note : Bargnani's 1st season stats > Dirks's 1st season stats ; I think Andrea is a quicker Dirk

I've seen Sean Elliott score at the buzzer on that play, or similar, when AJ was the Spurs' PG. Josh Howard screens and then flashes to the basket....same play.

... MPG shows Avery played to win (not experiment with weird-ass combos), played 7-man playoff rotation, and got only 14 PTs and 7 RBs from his bench.
I was definitely a key factor in yesterdays game. What would the mavs be without me.
Dirk II? Nowitzki lauds Raptor rookie Bargnani
Tribune news services
January 15, 2007
Toronto's Andrea Bargnani, the No. 1 pick in the draft, had 12 points, including two three-pointers, in the Raptors' home loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday. The 7-foot Italian has often been compared to Dirk Nowitzki, who had 38 points Sunday, because of his size and outside shot.
"He's a better player than when I was 19 or 20," the Mavericks' Nowitzki said of the 21-year-old Bargnani. "He's going to be a heck of a player. He's a little more athletic than I even was back then. He can drive a little better than me."

Some heady praise for Raps rookie
The comparisons between Raptors rookie Andrea Bargnani and Dallas Mavericks all-star Dirk Nowitzki may be unfair given their respective NBA experience, but they are inevitable, just the same.
Both are big men, both are from Europe and both were first-round draft picks.
But that is pretty much where the comparisons should end, firstly because Nowitzki -- in his ninth year in the association -- starts and gets his minutes.
Yesterday, Nowitzki was on the floor for 46 minutes of 48 played and notched a game-high 38 points. Bargnani came off the bench to put 32 minutes and 12 points beside his name.
Secondly, while Nowitzki is being mentioned again this season for MVP consideration, Bargnani will settle for a few rookie-of-the-year votes.
The seven-foot German, however, said following yesterday's 97-96 win over the Raptors, that he liked what he saw in the young Italian, who was selected No. 1 overall in the NBA draft.
"How old is he now, 20, 21?" Nowitzki asked. "Whatever he is, he is certainly better than I was when I was that age."
Nowitzki, 28, said that he got to see Bargnani up close and personal more than he might have liked yesterday.
There was one point in the game, with 2:04 left in the third quarter, when Bargnani dunked over Nowitzki and, just seconds later, batted a shot away from the Dallas forward at the other end.
"Obviously, he is a great shooter, but he can put it on the floor a little bit, too," Nowitzki said. "I like him, I like him a lot."
He wasn't about to anoint Bargnani as a star just yet, however.
"He still has a lot to learn. He is a rookie in this league," Nowitzki said. "If he'll just keep his eyes and his ears open, he will improve from year to year. He will be a great player in this league."
Nowitzki wasn't the only one on the Dallas side of the court who was impressed with the Toronto rookie.
Mavs coach Avery Johnson said he came away from the game convinced that the Bargnani is the real deal.
"For a big man, I really like the way he goes to the basket," Johnson said. "He has improved his play so much since the start of the season."

The Raptors are definitely headed in the right direction. They are not quite there yet to pull out close games against top teams, especially as their go to guys are all really young, but in the course of 12 days they almost beat both Phoenix and Dallas which is definite improvement. For a team that had been so bad defensively, they held Phoenix to 100 points (only 40 in the seocnd half) and Dallas below 100.
And I have to get this in of course. I wonder who had the best + on-court stats for both teams this game?

you can say all you want about them heading in the right direction blah, blah, blah...........
the Mavericks were just bored yesterday![]()
i'm sure they were just bored during the finals last year too
where the was josh howard the entire game though, he seemed invisible compared to his usual self except at the very end
the final play just shows how bad the raps defense really is..oh well they should take an easy win today playing the sixers at 2
Yeah, that was the only reason that the Mavs won for the most part. The Mavs need to stop messing around with teams like that or it's going to cost them the #1 seed.
Does Rasho always play so little? He couldn't have been on the court more than 5 minutes (I could be wrong).
I read that their coach told Mo Peterson prior to play to stay with Josh Howard and not go to double Dirk on a play like like that. So it wasn't the coaching, it was just dumbass Peterson ignoring his coach.
Rasho played 16 minutes but AJ went small- sound familiar. When Rasho would come back in, AJ would take Dampier out and he did not play Diop at all.
The Raptors big line-up is better than their small line-up, and teams have been going smaller to try to force Sam to play the smaller line-up. Against Phoenix Sam went big-- really big-- Rasho, Andrea and Bosh- against their small and it worked really well. That is how they held them to 18 third quarter points. I don't know why he didn't do the same against Dallas although Sam does tend to limit Rasho's minutes on back-to-backs and they play today.
Avery = genius on set plays out of timeouts...![]()
Yes, he is very good at that.
I said weeks ago that I really liked the Raptors, but is Sam enough of a coach to get the most out of them? I think if they finish the season at .500, it will be a huge success.
The players really seem to love Sam, and I think he is a good motivator. He has a sort of interesting view of how to handle players. He has said that he does not believe that yelling at them is the way to coach. He believes that his team is made up of men of character whom he treats with respect.
It was at Cleveland, 94/95 season ; Doc Rivers to Sean Elliot
