Are the black people gathering like locusts ready to loot it.
I told people early today how horrible it was. If people don't want to cry, don't watch it.thanks.... for depressing the out of me.
Are the black people gathering like locusts ready to loot it.
i know, major tearjerker!
Are you guys listening to the live press conference? The governor has a very soothing voice, but it's just so sad. Now the engineer is talking about trying to sandbag it.
Please tell me those 3 photos on the previous page were a joke, becuase if those were the real captions I'm going to beat some newsies over the ing head.
They putting sandbags to close the breach, according to this press conference.
On the previous page, those are real captions. LJ's dog photo caption is a joke.
My 'looted' () wireless connection sucks ass right now so I can't watch the live feed. taculous.
If those were real captions, then I'm all for keeping the race convo going. Do you need anymore proof on how ed up it is?
It's real.
Your neighbors don't own air, so it's all legal
Someone tell the governor to be tough for her state. If she needs help, just look how the mayor is coping.
Kori, I know you said to keep the racial elsewhere, but I really think what I'm about to say is very relevant.
For those of you that have never been to NO, there is a serious ing racial division in place. A disaster of this scale should be a uniting force, where everyone is helping anyone who is in need. There was footage earlier on WWL of white folks voluntarily risking their lives to help people evacuate some of the poorer, predominately black areas of town. I am absolutely certain that some white people out there have black people to thank for their lives as well in this tragedy, even though nothing was shown of it that I saw.
I think the more footage that is shown of all the looting taking place, especially when it appears to be solely by black folks, the more wary the predominantly white viewers are getting. The actions taking place that aren't being shown on TV, like the volunteers of all races helping out their fellow man, need to be shown rather than concentrating on the less fortunate people that are focused on grabbing whatever they can to avert their own demise.
This could be a situation that brings us closer together as a nation, a united people. Instead network coverage is sensationalizing the actions of the less fortunate rather than the actions to save ing lives. And it pisses me off.
Are you saying that because she was so sad? The mayor was crying last night when he was talking.
whats crazy is i was driving 1604 from Northwest Vista to I10 to get home and the signs over here already say i10 to Baton Rouge Closed i was like god damn thats pretty far.
BTW, I agree on the racist captions. That's bull .
Exactly. Saving lives is millions of times more important than Tyrone getting a loaf of bread to feed his starving children.
I really am very angry at the media's presentation of this at the moment. It is absolute .
Good post.
Almost makes me pine for the days of a stronger Public News service. Almost...
Damn, didn't see that last night Kori. Sorry.
j6, last night they were showing videos of white good samaritans pulling people from houses in their boats, and they actually interviewed them and they were like "we're all in this together, we had a boat so just came down and started looking for people."
But yeah, the looting story today is pissing me off.
Fox: Army and Navy has several choppers prepping to begin lifting the concrete barriers to 17th street levee.
WWL Blog update:
9:23 P.M. - FEMA bringing 2,000 officials to town. Bringing in food, water, ice, tarps. Setting up offices where you can get grants and loans.
9:21 P.M. - (AP) One Mississippi county alone said its death toll was at least 100, and officials are "very, very worried that this is going to go a lot higher," said Joe Spraggins, civil defense director for Harrison County, home to Biloxi and Gulfport.
Thirty of the victims in the county were from a beachfront apartment building that collapsed under a 25-foot wall of water as Katrina slammed the Gulf Coast with 145-mph winds.
9:19 P.M. - Lt. Governor Landrieu: Asking hotels in neighboring states to extend stays of refugees and to give them first priority and to possibly offer discounts for extended stays.
FYI, Mitch Landrieu is the brother of Senator Mary Landrieu and son of former NO mayor Moon Landrieu.
WTF?
Two men with AK-47s just shot up a police precinct, police returned fire, shooters fled into French Quarter.
Assault weapons = no bueno.
Do you think it's too late to get this job done? The Mayor didn't seem too hopeful.
You know, I almost wish people in neighboring states would be kind enough to take some people in for awhile. This is rough, and it is at times like this that it hurts to watch some people completely open their arms while others just turn their backs and ignore the situation.
