Hey the s is a small price to pay for the delicious king kong nachos
I'm adopting a dog from the Humane Society. A few came in from the hurricane affected areas and the Humane Society has reduced the adoption price on them.

Just a note about Red Cross donations:
If you donate locally, like my GF's fundraiser tomorrow morning here in DFW, the monies go to the local chapter who then decides how much to give to the national chapter, which distributes to the stricken area. There was a pretty big controversy about this after 9/11 here.
I'm not trying to dissuade anyone from donating, but know that not all of your money is going to go to New Orleans.
Well on this form on redcross.org, you can specify that the money goes to the Hurricane Relief and not to your local chapter. I'm not sure how full-proof that is, but that's how it's set up.

If you are going to donate, wait a couple days or a couple weeks. Let everything get sorted out before you decide which organization will best use your money. Right now is too early and your money could likely end up being used in ways not associated with the hurricane.
If y'all can give me another day or two, my sister is trying to figure out the best place to send money that will maximize what gets sent to the victims (for those of you who missed back on like page 26 or who knows where, she's a US Army nurse and workign with FEMA in Alabama).
Just for you Manny (our resident meteorologist)...
http://www.breitbart.com/news/2005/08/30/D8CAD3M00.htmlMeteorologists say a puff of dry air coming out of the Midwest weakened Katrina just before it reached land, transforming a Category 5 monster into a less-threatening Category 3 storm.
Good news on the oil rigs in the Gulf - no major damage reported, crews returning to the platforms...

Just read that at Drudge. That is good news.
They got so damn lucky with that decrease at the end. Makes you wonder if the SuperDome would have held up.
It's very interesting to me watching these news feeds and seeing where they are broadcasting from. Channel 6, WDSU, is in Orlando. WWL is at LSU and at their transmitter in Gretna. Any others you know of?
One of those 4 is out of Gulfport, MS. the other is out of Mobile.
Water expected to rise 9 feet tonight
I read earlier in this thread about the Saints playing a home game in the Alamodome, so I looked into it a little bit. I came across this quote:
"New Orleans Saints and NFL officials are discussing contingency plans in case the Superdome, the Saints' home field that was damaged by Hurricane Katrina, is not ready for use early in the regular season."
Early in the regular season? Don't you think there's more important things to consider than the stadium? This was posted less than an hour ago by the Post in DC, by the way.
j6,
The Saints arrived in San Antonio today, and will play at the Alamodome until further notice.
AHF, they won't be playing at the dome. The dome is booked for now.
Manny, I heard their first game (9/18) and at least 3 others will be in the Dome.
'
Great find AHF.
Well they have less than three weeks to figure out where to play. Life will go on.Early in the regular season? Don't you think there's more important things to consider than the stadium?
The last I hear at 9pm was that the dome was booked. We'll see.
AHF, I know KSAT reported that but according to the Saints, they haven't made a decision. I just posted about it in that thread in the Spurs forum.
An article from one hour ago ..
New Orleans Saints and NFL officials are discussing contingency plans in case the Superdome, the Saints' home field that was damaged by Hurricane Katrina, is not ready for use early in the regular season.
"We are discussing the situation with the Saints and looking into potential alternatives," said Greg Aiello , the NFL's vice president of public relations. "No decisions have been made."
Shea Guinn , president and general manager of Reliant Park, the home field for the Houston Texans, said he had offered the use of that stadium.
They haven't made their decision to make the game in the Alamodome or not. But I know they will be practicing in SA this weekend.
There's an NCAA volleyball tourney scheduled that weekend in the dome.
