If I'm ridiculously negative and do nothing but knee-jerk, then logic states I would have predicted a 50 point loss and asked for a Dirk beheading.

    BUT I PREDICTED A WIN.

Me, Mr. "All I want to do is bash the team cuz I think they suck !!!" thought they were going to win WHEN BEING DOWN BY 22 POINTS.

    Explain how that's possible.

    Actually, you did.

When replying to strech about mono, you said:

Pretty obvious you are talking about mono here face.
While my post was not really directed toward the mono part of the post I replied to, as opposed to the latter part of the post talking about how its hard to consider people a fan of a team if they can never seem to be happy about any sort of accomplishment (and while its not something that is historical, it was still a very nice comeback nonetheless), I don't think there is any question that mono is one of the more negative fans around here. I'm sure even he would admit he's more negative than most posters here.

Maybe it's because I'm not being negative at all. More than likely it's because I'm a lot more optimistic about this team than any of you are, which means I'm more disappointed when I see them not playing to the potential that I see in them.
But on the other side you advocate blowing this team up. If you see such potential in them then why would you advocate that. Come on man, we've been here a long time, and you bash the Mavs more than other teams' fans do. I know the Mavs have fallen off, and I know the Kidd trade was awful. No one is debating that. But at the end of the day this is entertainment, and people try to support their team. The Mavs did something good tonight, actually historically good since it was the largest comeback in their history. That is something we should enjoy. As well as try to enjoy victories against other teams.

I didn't see anyone else predicting victory at halftime.

He's being hard on his team. Is that being negative?
I mean, they did make the finals in 06 and had a 68 win season in 07. Now they are sucking pretty bad. I would be pissed too, knowing what the team was once capable of doing.

Wow you are ridiculously sensitive. It's quite amusing how you take one teeny tiny comment that could be considered a slight against you, and go wayyyyyyyyyy too far with it, with your extreme exaggerations, like a hormonal teenaged girl.

    Congrats on your prediction.

Because while I see potential, I also see that it it's been half a decade of failure with this group of potential.

In the immediate, I advocate first and foremost making a trade to get a guy like Gerald Wallace here. As I realize that the front office is too incompetent to make another move, I advocate blowing the team up, if only to end the misery of seeing all this potential never become fully realized.

yes you predicted a victory at halftime

no, just that by itself, doesn't make you less negative. Your "body of work" here does that.

I think all of us are dissappointed in them not playing to their potential. It doesnt mean that we all go make a thread or post every week talking about how the team needs to get blown up and bring kevin durant to town. That isn't optimistic as you claim, at all.

LOL try applying that same logic to the team for a change.

No, one bad loss (or one bad first half) doesn't mean much. But in the larger context of their "body of work" it sure as does.

But if you know that they are bound to fail as they have, then there is nothing to get exited about which in turn means you shouldn't get too discouraged when they lose, right?

As for the moves, we can open another thread on that. I think the Mavs are in a tough situation, there is nothing simply obvious to do. They don't just want to blow it up, because they are not at that point yet. And I agree, Dirk is only 30. But time is running out, and they have to engineer a mini miracle. What is my personal dream? Stack and filler for Caron Butler, that turns us into an outstanding team immediately. OUTSTANDING!

I get a feeling most Mavs fans would rather see Dirk play his entire career here and never win a le rather than trade Dirk, rebuild the team, and win one that way.

Sorry, I'm more interested in les than franchise cornerstones.

I want a le as much as anyone. However, there is no guarantee that rebuilding a team will get the Mavericks any closer to a le than they have been in recent times.

    Trading Dirk wouldn't guarantee .

Brother championships are hard as to come by. You either need an ensamble like Detroit in 2004 or Boston in 2008 or a superDUPERstar like Lebron, Duncan, Whistle, Jordan, Kobe, Shaq, etc... that doesn't grow on trees. Trading Dirk wouldn't guarantee we would walk into one of "those guys" or that we could assemble an "ensamble".

This current incarnation of the Mavs is probably the most complicated team I've ever rooted for. They simultaneously bring great potential and hope while also offering helplessness and dread. Their duality is maddening.

So yes, I expect this team to win a le while also believing they never will. It's a contradiction, just as the Mavericks are.

    Thank you!

Dirk is still in the top 5-7 players in the league, just check last year's playoffs for more proof on that. Teams go years, decades, without finding something like that.

I consider myself a Dirk fan, so I would love for Dirk to win a championship. Even if that's in another uniform. However, I don't think the Mavs are better off just trading Dirk yet.I don't want Dirk to just retire as a Mav, I want him to win as one. If he wants to go, in 2010 he can walk away, and if the Mavs really have no shot then, he probably will take a low pay and go to the best team possible.

Neither did Kobe by being a leader, but they are no doubt players that you can construct a team around, and they will be contnenders. He has proven that, and really we are not far away from his ring either. If the Cavs' FO is careful at managing the cap space they'll add another quality star player really soon, and the Cavs will be tought to beat for years.
